Young Leaders' Consortium Model UN

Workshop

Young Leaders Consortium, a member of International Steering Committee to the UNESCO GAMAG is the premier youth organization
across the globe to be recognized by several
UN agencies for its commitment towards youth
development.
YLC aims to offer a lively and memorable learning opportunity for students seeking a supplement to their education and develop the
leadership skills within them by nurturing the
traits required for attaining excellence through
a wide variety of well planned activities in a
challenging environment and by giving them
exposure of various leadership programs.
In a country like India, talent is plenty but opportunities are very less and YLC wants to provide
this opportunity to the students in India. The
goal of YLC is to work extensively towards the
aspiration of modern youth, especially through
the continued expansion and enhancement of
the organization through national and international collaborations.
YLC focuses for the promotion of student inter-

est in international relations and related subjects, the increase in capacity for students to
engage in problem solving, the teaching of various conflict resolution methods, research skills,
and communication skills, and the creation of
opportunities to meet and interact with people
from diverse fields and build long lasting relationships among the youth community.
In this global world where distance between
people has been reduced to the click of a button, it is necessary the fruits of ones work find
their way to everyone. Only if we are able to
provide the necessary exposure to our peers
from all over the country and bring them together to a single platform to share their ideas
and experiences, can we truly say that our efforts have been worthwhile. YLC has setup following chapters:
Bangalore Mumbai
Chennai Odisha
Gujarat Pune
Hyderabad Central India

Model UN Conferences
The Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation
and academic competition within a diverse group
of informed college/university students and
faculty from all over the world. The participants
presume the role of delegates representing the
various member countries of the UN, in a set
of committees like UNEP, UNHRC, WIPO, etc.
The delegates address current world issues
related to regional conflicts, peacekeeping,
human rights, women and children, economic
and social development, and the environment.
At the end of these conferences, outstanding
delegates are recognized and rewarded.
Model United Nations picked up as an activity
in the early 2000s and exploded to scene early
in this decade, with Model UN conference being
organized by all the major schools and colleges
throughout the country. MUNs have now
become an integral part of the curriculum and
is one of the most sought after extracurricular
activity in todays education system.
With India rising in status and slowly assuming
a position in the world geopolitics of a nation
which no more can be ignored, it is of utmost

importance that the youth of such a country

is well aware of the global scenarios and how
diplomacy and negotiation work all around
the world.
Model United Nations conferences are not
only a platform for getting to understand
international issues, but a platform that
teaches you public speaking, elocution,
diplomacy, research, resolution writing, and
the most important LEADERSHIP.

MUN Workshops

Model UN conferences have their sophisticated

rules of procedure which become very difficult
for first timers to understand and comprehend.
YLC provides beginner and intermediate level
of training for rules of procedures of MUN, ways
to research, an Introduction to policy making
and geopolitical scenarios etc. The Workshops
are generally a two day event, wherein the
first day is about explanation of the rules of
procedure and other aspects of Model UN and
the second day has a mock session for better
understanding of rules of procedure by the
participants of the workshop.
Following sub topics are covered in the MUN
workshop:
History of the United Nations
Functions and Organs of the United Nations
UN Charter
Understanding MUN rules of procedure
Understanding forms of debate
Points and Motions
Resolution making process
Voting Process
Mock MUN session

Benefits:
Model United Nations workshops conducted
by Young Leaders Consortium are conducted
with the aim that the recipients of the MUN
workshop by YLC go back after the workshops
as trained MUN participants who can actively
participate in Model UN conferences and
perform well in them.
The YLC MUN rule of procedure workshop
ensures that the participants are well versed
with the standard MUN rules of procedure and
aware of all the exceptions that exist in the
ROPs for MUNs.
The workshop teaches the participants in a
classroom style training about the history of the
United Nations, the various organs and systems
of the UN that exist and the functioning of the
UN. This enables the students to understand
the core ideology on how United Nations
works, thus improving the basics of participants
which in turn will help them in performing well
at MUN conferences.
Another big aspect of the YLC MUN workshop
is the research technique taught to the

participants of the workshop, this research

technique would be helpful in researching for
respective agendas and eventually this same
research technique can also help participants
to research and prepare for different projects in
their academic sphere.

of the YLC workshops which involve a mock

session wherein in participants are expected
to research on the provided agenda overnight
and participate in the mock session next day.
This clears all the small doubts participants
might have and brings them to terms with how
MUN debates actually work.

Resolution writing is arguably one of the most

difficult tasks that have to be carried out during
an MUN conference, which involves solving the
current situation at hand in a manner that all
involved parties are satisfied and the solutions
are logically and factually correct. At YLC MUN
workshop we explain to participants in detail on
how to go about the resolution making process
and what are the small technicalities involved
with the same.

Material Provided

The 14 hour training workshop by YLC is

basically divided into two parts, the first as
explained is a classroom style training where
in all the important aspects of the MUN are
explained. The second half is a unique feature
