The document argues that while religion can provide morals and answers to life's mysteries, it also discourages questioning and scientific advancement. It cites a debate where Ken Ham always deferred to the Bible for answers, unlike Bill Nye who welcomed further inquiry. The document asserts that morals come from humans, not gods, as evidenced by the diverse morals in the 4,200 world religions. It concludes that without religion, there would be no religious wars or condemnation of homosexuality, and greater scientific progress.

I would like begin my essay by saying that I have the upmost
respect for religion. Religion gives people a strong set of morals to live by, and gives them reassurance on some of lifes most puzzling questions. That being said, I believe that religion is a creation of man. I also believe that religion holds us back in many ways. To me, the bible was a book created by humans to answer some of lifes toughest questions. How did we get here, what is our purpose, and who is the ultimate authority? And to some people, that is enough. But for me religion discourages people from asking more questions about the world they live in, instead they assume know the answers. For research on this topic, I watched Bill Nye debate Ken Ham on the topic of creation. Towards the end of the debate, both Bill Nye and Ken Ham had the opportunity to answer questions from the crowd. Unsurprisingly, Mr. Nye did not have the answer for every question, however, when he couldnt answer a question, he was elated. He says life would be boring if we knew everything; discovery is one of the great joys in our life. Also unsurprisingly Mr. Ham had the answer for every single question. His sole answer to every question was, Well theres this book. And he was perfectly content with this answer. This leads me to wonder, what would a society be like if everyone was devoutly religious. Would there be any scientific advances, or would people just pray for advances in technology? I dont believe morals come from god. I believe morals come from us. Look at it this way. There are an estimated 4,200 different religions in the world. And each religion has its own set of morals. Lets look at Greek mythology. I think we can all agree that it isnt real. However, the Greeks universally believed in it, and they all followed its morals. But if the Greeks didnt get their morals from gods then where did they come from? They came from us. Its that simple, and I believe that is true for all 4,200 religions. Its hard to argue that point because even if your religion is correct, there are still 4,199 religions left whose morals we create. Not only can you be good without god, I believe we would be better off without religion. There is no doubt in my mind that morals would still exist even if there werent religion. In fact, I think my last paragraph proves that. If there werent religion, there wouldnt have been the crusades, homosexuality would not be regarded as an abomination, and we would be more scientifically advanced. If everyone was religious, would there be any scientific inquiry to lauren Religions have different morals
