Qualification/ Higher Education required

No special qualification required for manage MPonline
Kiosk. If you are graduate or post graduate then easily
manage Kiosk Centre.

Procedure of Management

1
Examine your skills. It's not enough to know how to fix broken
computers; you must also have the ability to manage
personnel, maintain accurate financial records, support basic
store operations, manage and conserve resources, and
effectively deal with customers. If your background doesn't
include one or more of these areas of expertise, plan on
enlisting a partner or hiring someone with experience to help
you in these vital areas.

2
Study and adopt "best practices" for hiring, training, and
supervising employees. Employees will present a direct threat
to the success of your shop if they are poorly hired, poorly
trained, or poorly supervised, according to SCORE, the Senior
Corps of Retired Executives, a leading non-profit business
advisory

association.

Investigate

all

applicant

resumes

thoroughly. Require Comptia or Comp A+ certification or some

other proof of technical competence. Test for customer service
skills, too. Distribute a copy of your Employee Manual.
Thoroughly train employees in store policies and procedures.

1
1

Take steps to correct any performance problems as soon as

they arise. Resolve to terminate any employee who can't
follow your policies and procedures; you cannot afford to risk
your business on employees who are working against you.
Protect your business investment by dealing with employees
firmly, professionally, impartially, and consistently.

3
Establish fair policies and procedures for handling customerrelated problems. Customers may often be unhappy with the
results or final cost of a repair. Be prepared to resolve any
disputes

in

"win-win"

fashion

if

possible.

Print

any

disclaimers or policies on your check-in receipts or invoices.

Be fair in your policies, but do not "give away" your services
in order to quickly resolve every customer dispute that will
arise. In this business, the customer isn't "always right"
because he or she will often lack technical appreciation of
your work.

4
Take care with each repair job that comes into your shop.
Computers, and especially the hard drive contents, are very
valuable to your customers. Do not take risks when repairing
a machine. Keep careful notes and "patient" files on each job.
Take out a business liability insurance policy to cover serious
mistakes that might harm a customer's computer or data.

5
Conserve everything: time, money, supplies, and your own
health. Needless waste of any of these resources kills more

1
1

new businesses than any "tough economy," according to

SCORE. Work hard, but resolve to work smart.

6
Study information pertaining to computers, computer repairs,
and business management practices continually. You must
stay informed of new developments and constantly strive to
improve your own computer and business management skills.

Procedure of Management
You can start your own business by putting together your
own MPOnline Kiosk. Before opening your Kiosk small
business, you have to take into consideration several
factors. These factors will determine the success of your
business.
You can ask for help from people that you know so that it
will be easier for you to establish your business. Most
importantly, you have to love what you do so that your
business will be successful.

Here are some tips on how to start your own computer

shop:
1. What kind of Kiosk. Before starting, you must ask
yourself what kind of Kiosk you are planning to start.
Your computer shop may sell brand new computers or
notebooks, sell refurbished computers, or be a
hardware shop, a wholesale computer shop or even
an Internet shop. There are many possibilities. Your
shop can also sell other computer accessories so that
customers will be more inclined to visit your store.
2. Set your budget. When you have established your
goal for your Kiosk, you must set a budget that you
will spend for your business. You don't always have to
spend in every aspect of your business. If you are
going to sell refurbished computers, you can ask your

1
1

friends or relatives to donate old computers or parts.

You can just work on these so that you can add them
to your store. Still, you have to set a budget so that
you won't overspend for your business.
3. Choose

location. Choose

this,

consider

your

competitors. Check to see if there are other Kiosk in

the area that have the same products and services as
you do. It is best to set up a business in a location
where you have no competition.
4. Get necessary permits. There are different licenses
and permits that you have to get in order to start your
business. These are required in order for you to
operate legally. Get the necessary papers that you
need before opening your business. Choose a name
for your shop that will stick in the minds of customers.
Select from a number of names to be sure that you
are the only one who has that name.
5. Market your shop. Tell your friends and family
about your Kiosk so that they can spread the news to
other

people.

You

can

also advertise in

local

newspapers or bulletin boards, or even post or give

out flyers on the street.
6. Increase your sales. When you are already in
business, it is also good to add more products to your
shop. You can add a game section and useful
software. You can even add a section where your

1
1

customers can go online. Another idea is to have

discount computers to attract more customers.

Management of MPonline Kiosk

These are the basic steps that you will have to go through in
setting up a Kiosk. It is best to do your research first before
starting any type of business. By doing this, and by staying
informed by taking online business courses from time to time,
you can ensure that your business will be successful .

Offer Free Pickup and Delivery

This is another way you can make yourself stand out from
other businesses in your advertising. I have found that people
are either too scared to unplug their computers or simply
cant find the time to get the computer to you. This is better
used for new businesses since the more busy ones may not
be able to find the time to drive around or leave their
storefronts. As for making up the time and money of travelling
to and from your clients, just include it in your prices.

1
1

Offer a Free Second Opinion

This form of marketing is very easy and effective. You can
mention in your advertising that you will provide a free
second opinion. When a client comes in for that second
opinion such as whether the computer they are looking at is
a good deal or not, you have two chances to generate
business. The first one is that the computer they are looking
at IS a good deal and you probably wont be able to beat that
price. However, you can offer to set it up for them any install
the appropriate security patches, antivirus programs etc..
The other option is that the computer isnt a good deal and
you can do better for cheaper and possibly get a new
computer sale out of it.
Vehicle Advertising
If you do any onsite computer repair work, advertising on your
vehicle is an amazing opportunity to have your name seen by
many people all over town. Even if you dont get any direct
calls from the advertisement it will help build up your brand.
For example, when a potential client looks in the local paper
and is presented with a huge list of computer businesses that
service your area; yours will stand out because they have
seen your brand before.
There are 3 main ways to advertise on your car. One of the
most popular are rear window vinyl that completely covers

1
1

the cars rear view window, but allows you to see out from the
inside.
Another option is if you have a car that has a spare tire on the
back (like a SUV), you can get custom made tire covers for
around

$100-200.

If you have the marketing budget, you can go all out and
cover the entire car with your advertisement. I have seen a
handful of computer businesses do this to their cars and it
looks great. Do a search on Google for businesses that can do
car wraps in your area.
Uniform
I have mentioned uniforms on Technibble many times before
because they are just so important. A uniform can help build
up credibility and shows your clients that you take your job
seriously.
I personally wear a nice collared business shirt, dress pants
and formal shoes. When I arrive at a clients house, I have my
repair bag slung over one arm and my EeePC laptop in the
other hand which makes me look the part of a computer
technician. Some computer technicians who do consulting
work for large companies will also work in a full-blown suit.
This makes you look great for the larger companies but might
scare off some of the smaller businesses and home users.
Choose the appropriate uniform for the type of work you are
doing.
People Do Business with People They Like

1
1

This seems pretty obvious. However, I have to mention this in

the

computer

industry

because

many

people

turn

to

computers because they often lack good social skills. Being

friendly with good communication, the ability to talk in
laymans terms without being condescending will help your
business immensely.
You can take this one step further and become your clients
friend which has massive benefits of its own.
Newsletters
Many computer technicians are making use of postal and
email newsletters as way to stay in the front of their clients
minds. The client can sign up to their newsletter from the
computer technicians site or in person and they will be
mailed

computer

tips

on

an

ongoing

basis.

The trick to having an effective newsletter is to make them

either more interested in computers or tell them about certain
dangers rather than telling them how to fix their own
computers.
For example, you might want to tell them about the benefits
of having a wireless network such as the ability to use the
laptop in any room, but then the dangers of it not being setup
properly such as leaving their wireless network open to
intruders. Once you have pre-sold them on getting a wireless
network you can casually tell them that your business can
provide the parts and set it up properly and securely.

1
1

Specialize
A lot of technicians try to get more customers by providing
more and more services being everything to everyone. As the
old saying goes A jack of all trades is a master of none. It is
often a good idea to specialize your skills such as being the
becoming a malware or data recovery expert. If a potential
client with a virus is looking in the newspaper for a computer
technician and are presented with 10 different ads; will they
choose you as the Virus Removal Specialists? Or the 10
other businesses who do networking, hardware upgrades, new
computers and virus removal? They will probably call the virus
removal specialists.

&

Solution for above problem

1. Mobile Applications
The problem: For small businesses, being away from the office
makes it difficult to share data and be available to customers.
The solution: Some 94% of small business users believe
mobile devices make them more efficient, said the Mobility
Edge Report from CDW. Smartphones are the most popular
mobile device among small business users, while tablet usage
is growing. Evernote is a free app that helps organize users
across multiple devices, with the ability to take notes and
capture web pages. Squareis a mobile-payment device that
attaches to a smartphone to accept credit card payments on
the go.
2. Analytics
The problem: Small businesses are catching on that social
media is where their customers are. But how do they know if
their marketing is effective?
The solution: Companies that figure out how to harness and
turn data into insights most effectively will gain huge
competitive advantages, said the SMB study. Beyond Google
Analytics, Gecko Board is a hosted dashboard that integrates
different services so users can see web traffic next to sales
figures. Crazy Egg creates heat-map website images so
businesses can see exactly where users are clicking.

cause big headaches for overworked small businesses.

clients and vendors can be expensive for many small

businesses.

The solution: Web-based teleconferencing services let large

groups make video and voice connections, usually without
special equipment or sky-high phone fees. Reigning
champ Adobe Connect is the solution to beat, said PC

Future ChallengesThe beneficiaries of the project are citizens, commercial

organizations and Government Departments. The MPOnline
Portal hosts a number of services which caters to various age
groups and are utilized by the citizens of the State and the
entire Country at large. By and large, we cover three main
aspects of Services - Education, Recruitment and Business to
Citizen services.
Starting from X and XII Exams from MP Board of Secondary
Education, a citizen applying for a Professional examination
like PET, PPT etc. through Professional examination
Board (VYAPAM) and MPPSC Service Exams. MPOnline also
has number of services for the rural citizens likeTemporary
Agriculture connections for farmers.
The Portal is all the more popular for the ease of mode of
payments available through Internet banking facility with 52

1
1

banks, Credit/ Debit Card and through any of the large kiosk
network spread across the State.
MPOnline has presence in all 50 districts, over 342+ tehsils
and 313+ blocks of Madhya Pradesh. Apart from MPOnline,
Four service centre agencies have been identified under
NEGP, 2006 to set up CSCs. These Service Centre Agencies
are AISECT, Reliance, CMS and NICT. Madhya Pradesh is
having proud distinction of the only state where CSCs are
financially viable.
Hand Print
Hewlett-Packard, Lexmark and Canon have touted their webenabled printers for years--but the hardware wasn't all that
useful or necessary. That has changed. Now, thanks to the
current crop of mobile devices, you can send documents to
printers directly from your smart phone or tablet. Instead of
lugging along a load of collateral materials on your next
business trip or stuffing a lot of just-in-case papers into your
briefcase, you can store the documents on your device and
print them as needed.
"Whether it's a real estate agent on the move who needs
printed copies of contracts or an insurance agent who needs
to print several forms quickly, printing without a PC has
become more of a must-have than simply a premium," says
Tuan Tran, vice president of Hewlett-Packard's imaging and
printing group.
Touch Me
The trend that started with smart phones and tablets has
leapt off the small screens: Now desktop computers, printers

1
1

and more can be managed by a touch of the finger. And

innovations in the technology have helped bring the price way
down. Formerly enterprise-only solutions like touch-controlled
office kiosks, interactive point-of-sale terminals and even
sophisticated employee inventory systems are now within
reach of the smallest small businesses. One worth a look? The
ViewSonic VX2258 touch-controlled monitor (about $340) can
be installed in a store or medical waiting room as a low-cost
interactive kiosk.
The Uncomputer
Tech-savvy companies that need more desktop computers but
don't want to spend big for the firepower should consider a
different breed of machine: zero-client PCs. These cheap,
small units are, quite frankly, weaklings on the processing
front--until you network them to a full-power computer
nearby. Zero-clients have been big-company tools for some
time, but recent price drops mean that a shop with just a few
seats can zero out its PCs.
"Sectors where data security, IT productivity and endpoint
reliability are critical are a very good fit for zero-client
computing--specifically,

health

care,

financial

services,

hospitality and retail, along with local government and

education," says James Buzzard, vice president for marketing
at Pano Logic, a zero-client PC manufacturer in Redwood City,
Calif.
Speed Up

1
1

Innovations in wireless communications come and go, but

with service providers investing heavily in blazingly fast Long
Term Evolution (LTE) networks, it looks like the technology will
be around for some time. Though Verizon Wireless was once
the sole LTE provider, now players from AT&T to Googlebacked startup Clearwire are stepping into the arena--which
means several choices will soon exist for accessing the web
while on the go as quickly as you can in the office.
"The emergence of LTE speeds has revolutionized the mobile
experience for small businesses," says Walt Rivenbark, area
vice president for mobility applications consulting at AT&T
Mobility. "Salespeople will benefit by being able to collaborate
remotely with their peers, easily review and share large files
and help prevent service technicians from making a second
trip."
But you may not want to sign up for LTE immediately. The
service has its problems: Coverage is still spotty, and there
can be brutally expensive usage caps. But, sooner rather than
later, the technology may be so robust that a single mobile
data connection will work in the office and on the road,
allowing businesses to drop their pricey internet service for a
single cheap LTE deal.

Auto Zoom
Thanks to the likes of Ford, GM and Toyota, even smallbusiness owners can stop thinking company cars and start
thinking company fleet. Auto manufacturers have started
offering

low-cost

business-oriented

tracking

tools

and

productivity features that mirror the logistics packages of bigtime fleets.

"Factory-embedded

productivity

tools

help

fleet

owners

present data like where vehicles are, driver behavior and

dispatch options. And they make that information accessible
from any computer," says Ed Pleet, product and business
development manager for connected services at the Ford
Motor Company.
Just be careful: Though fleet management tools are helpful in
figuring out which delivery guy can handle that last-minute
pickup, improper utilization could make your staff feel like
you're spying on them.
Talking Point
No, don't toss your keyboard quite yet. But do think of voicecontrol technology as an always-at-the-ready assistant that
can help out when you're driving, caring for patients or kneedeep in hands-on work. "Voice-recognition tools also can be
effective in workplaces with document-intensive work flows,"
says Vlad Sejnoha, chief technology officer at Burlington,
Mass.-based

Nuance

Communications,

which

offers

the

Dragon Go! voice-recognition search app. "For example, the

1
1

federal government has mandated the use of electronic

medical

record

systems

to

capture

and

share

patient

information. But they tend to be hard to use, templateoriented and a good option for voice recognition."

Future Aspects of Computer BusinessI believe that this inflection point can be described as going
from personal computing to personalized computing and will
be defined by tablets and smart phones that take all types of
shapes, form factors and designs that make the computing
experience

more

personalized

and

customizable.

This

inflection point is just as dramatic as when the PC came on

the scene and cut the chord between the mainframes and
minis and brought personal computing local. Another way to
think of this is that we are moving into a phase in which
people want a PC on their desktop and in their pocket.
But, it goes even deeper if you look at the PC, tablets and
smart phones as just another screen in our digital lives. In the
future we will have a lot of screens in our lives as well. A
screen in our cars with a 3G chip in it so that our cars can be
connected to the cloud at all times. Or screens in our
refrigerator that is tied to application specific functions
related to the kitchen and food. Or a screen built into the
mirrors in our bathroom that is tied to the Internet and can
deliver custom information on demand as we get ready to
head out for the day.

1
1

Here is a chart from one of our presentation decks that shows

what this might look like. Out in the periphery are a whole
host of screens. Next is a layer of services that serve as
gateways to things like apps and various services that are
then tied to the cloud.

Depending on who you talk to, e-Commerce is either the

greatest sunrise sector in India or a completely dead one.
Opinions on an e-Commerce startup can range from The
Amazon of India to Going bust by the end of the quarter.
While there is no doubt that some players in the Indian eCommerce scene are doing well, the perception of the future
of these e-Commerce startups remains sharply divided.
So whats really going on?
To understand what the future of e-Commerce in India can
look like, lets peek into whats happening in other emerging
markets around the world that are presumably ahead of the
curve from India.
e-Marketer

estimates that

there

are

220

million

online

shoppers in China today (defined as having bought at least

one thing online), estimated to grow to 420 million by 2016.
Thats compared to roughly 150 million in the US. The
comparable number in India is 10 million right now. So the
Chinese market is 22 times bigger than in India, and
consequently

has

several

e-Commerce

companies

either already IPOed and acquired or in line to do so. Only a

handful have gone public in India so far.
Or you can compare with Brazil (which is presumably more
like India), where there are an estimated 40 million online
shoppers. McKinsey estimates that almost a third of these eshoppers bought their first item online last year!
India maybe behind the curve on the numbers, but they are
growing fast, and when they reach the 200-300 million online
shoppers, you can safely assume that there will at least be as
many e-Commerce players in India as there are in China. That
is to say, there will be at least 10-20 successful, large and
growing e-Commerce companies in India over the next few
years!

1
1

The India difference

When it comes to India, though, you cant just go by numbers
and comparisons. The thing we repeatedly hear is that India is
a unique market with unique challenges, which also means it
creates unique opportunities. Given all this, who are going to
be these successful e-Commerce players of tomorrow?
I think the successful companies of tomorrow are going to
look different from the ones that are on the top now. Theres
going to be 100-200 million new e-Commerce customers that
are going to be up for grabs in the next few years. Another
way to look at it is that in 80% of the e-Commerce shoppers of
2016 still are available to be nabbed by e-Commerce sites.
And

theyre

going

to

come

from

predominantly

two

categories. First, from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities as the logistics

and connectivity there improve and second, young people
that get jobs/pocket-money and start shopping online.
New Customers, New Strategies
So what can be done by e-Commerce startups here? I think
its less about competing directly with the big players, but
more about competing to acquire the new customers. I think
there are 3 broad things that could work
1) New Experiences
In many ways, the e-Commerce sites of today are organized
for the class of people that are already familiar with online
shopping. If you have a rough idea what you want to buy, you
go online and order it. But for the categories of people coming
online,

theyre

probably

looking

for

new

experiences,

experiences that dont exist yet.

2) New Product Selection
Theres evidence that people from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities
arent sure what theyre looking for online, and consequently

1
1

dont know how to go about it. They may also be unhappy

with or unable to figure out the selection of products available
online.
e-Commerce sites should use data, analytics and the power of
big data to figure out products could appeal to these new
customers.

powerful

recommendation

engine

that

understands the aspiration dimension may be the need of

the day.
3) New Ways To Connect
Forrester estimates that localization is one of the top 3 factors
that will drive e-Commerce in India. A simple and streamlined
shopping experience on the mobile phone is another area that
can create differentiated experiences, as many peoples first
experience of the Internet will be from their phones For both
young people and for people from the tier-2,3 cities. A good
mobile shopping experience is still missing.
So it comes down to this e-Commerce sites able to create
new and interesting shopping experiences have a chance with
the new generation of e-Commerce shoppers that are about
to come online. The e-Commerce game has not been won yet,
and targeting the right market with the right experiences will
create the next generation of winners.

Experience of the Student

This new inflection point is being led by tablets and smart

phones but is bound to carry over to a whole host of others
screens people might choose to meet more personalized
needs over time.
On the surface, the PC industry and PC companies who have a
history as hardware vendors should see this as a new
opportunity to extend their PC design and manufacturing
prowess to

this new

extended
