udity is everywhere! TV, billboards, grocery store

checkout stands, movies. Its everywhere! And because
pornography is everywhere you dont have to sneak
around to look at it. Back in the days (Im old enough to say that
now) it was only possible to view pornography at an adult book
store. This is not true any more. Today you dont have to go
searching for pornography it will find you. Watch television,
open up your smartphone, or stand at a checkout line at a
grocery store. We are living in a very FLESH driven world (not just
as a society). And please hear this the world is getting us to
LAUGH at pornography, because what we laugh at we are also
accepting! Its true!

Are you aware that today as I speak that 1 out of every five
mobile searches is for pornography? And that 35% of every
download on the American computer is pornography?

Are you aware that what starts out as a peek often becomes a
full-blown problem, and the desire for pornography escalates.

The rate of people viewing pornography is growing at a rapid
pace in our nation.
Pornography is a 13 billion dollars a year industry.

There is no way to actually know how many pornographic
websites there are in America.

More than 2/3 of the male population visits pornographic sites

at least once a month. This equate to about 67% of all men in the
U.S. More than 80% of men between the ages of 18-30 visits a
pornographic site at least once a month.

Contrary to what some believe its not just a guy problem. Are
you aware that the percentages of women visiting pornographic
sites have jumped dramatically in recent years? It is estimated
that more than 3 million women in the U.S. are addicted to
pornography.

How bad is the sin of pornography in the church? Studies show
that 50% of church-going men view some sort of pornography
on a monthly basis. 36% of men ages 13-30 are viewing
pornography on a daily basis thats addiction!

The latest research shows that 79% of teenagers do not even
consider internet pornography a sin. (Johnny Hunts mens
Conference).

The sin of pornography is destroying lives! Lives of people both
outside and inside the church. Christians and non-believers alike.
No one is exempt. Pornography shows no favoritism. It will
destroy all who participate with it. It is a real killer.

Remember that we are in a series entitled: Breaking Bad. We
have got to see that pornography is a SIN, and that it breaks the
heart of God to see His kids involved in it, and we have got to see
the seriousness of this sin, and we have got to break it godly
sorrow, and we come to God and repent from this stronghold in

our lives.

I. Trapped by Pornography I Corinthians 6:12-20

Is it possible that you are feeling trapped by your involvement
with pornography? Lets not think that in a church our size that
we are exempt from having people within our own fellowship
that are feeling trapped by the sin of pornography. You know
who you are, and you know that God is trying to speak to you
right now. I would encourage you to pay attention. Pornography
is something BAD that you need to be released from today.

Take a look with me at I Corinthians 6:12-20. It is a lengthy
passage, but every word in this section of Scripture is important
for us to hear for the purpose of applying it. We read,

12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful.
All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the
power of any. 13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for
foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not
for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
14 And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by
His power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of
Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them
members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that
he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For the two,
He says, shall become one flesh. 17 But he who is joined to the
Lord is one spirit with Him. 18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin
that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual

immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that
your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom
you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were
bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your
spirit, which are Gods.

Please grab your Bible, and open to this passage of Scripture.
Underline the words, sexual immorality both in verse 13, and
again in verse 18. The Greek word here is, porneia. and we get
the English word, pornography from this word. This word carries
with it all types of sexual deviances, such as: fornication,
adultery, bestiality, homosexuality, harlotry, incest, etc. This
section of Scripture tells us how people get trapped in the sin of
sexual immorality (pornography), but it also tells us how anyone
can be released from the grips of sexual immorality
(pornography).

How to get Trapped by Pornography

Believe that what is lawful is also helpful, and that you have
the ability to control it v. 12 (You have more control than
every one else has).
Your purpose to fulfill the sexual desires of your body v.

Forget that Christ is in you, and join yourself to a harlot v.
15
Become one with a harlot v. 16 (Bondage).
Dont flee sexual immorality (pornography) v. 18 (Sin
against your own body).

 Forget that the Holy Spirit dwells in you v. 19

Refuse to glorify God in your body and spirit v. 20

Every one of us needs to understand that our world is not
promoting a healthy view of sexuality. We live in a world of
distortion.

In one study I was reading about it stated that college students
were educated through the use of pornography they were
WRONGLY educated. Not all education is of equal value. Here are
some of the responses from the students, and what they said
that they learned:

Women are merely sex objects.
Males are to must push for sex and take control.
Some of the pornography had been violent and forceful.
Pain and sex go together, and the more the pain, the better
the sex.
Women in pictures do not have a will of their own. They do
not resist or talk back. It is much easier to get sex from
pictures than from real women.
Pornography taught them that all women want sex and are
easy. You just have to push the right button. When a
woman says no she really doesnt mean it.

With that type of education, no wonder so many young people
feel trapped. Wrong thinking leads to wrong behavior and
actions. By the way, that education plays through our televisions
sets every day in America.

 Are you aware that 1/3 of Christian men 18-30 are viewing
pornography daily? Are you feeling trapped?

Do you find yourself going to mobile websites, searching for
pictures on your smartphone, or browsing through magazines at
some book store?

Do you have any secret places where you are storing pictures,
magazines, or other types of pornography materials?

If you are feeling trapped this message is for you. I want you to
know that God is offering you VICTORY right now wherever you
might be. God wants you to be set free. But how? Im glad youve
asked. This brings us to our second point.

II. Confronting Pornography Directly James 1:14-16

Until you see the devastation that pornography brings into
your life, and the life of those closest to you, you will not find
victory.

If you stepped into a trap, and it
sprung on you, I guarantee that you
would want to be released from it.
The problem with pornography is
that it feeds desire so much that it
deaden the pain. You are enjoying the pleasure more than the
death it is bringing upon you (See Hebrews 11:25). There are a
whole lot of people dragging their trap along with them through

life. They are slowly bleeding out. Isnt it time to get out of the
trap?

Listen to how James put it,

But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own
desires and enticed. (Doesnt that sound like pornography?)
Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin,
when it is full-grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my
beloved brethren. (James 1:14-16).

What the Porn Industry Doesnt Show You

Are you aware of all the things the porn industry doesnt show
you? Here are a few things they dont tell you:

The number of marriages they have killed.
The number of violent crimes that have been committed as
a result of their industry (i.e., Ted Bundy).
The number of innocent people that have been abused.
The number of people who do not know how to have a
healthy sexual relationship.
The number of people trapped in perversion.

All of that is only the tip of the iceberg.

Today, you must confront this sin directly. The Bible says,

He who conceals his transgression will not prosper, but he who

confesses and forsakes them will find compassion. (Prov. 28:13).

In Over Your Head

Have you ever been in a situation where you
have been in over your head? Swimmers often
find themselves in over their heads. We can find
ourselves in a situation where we think we can
handle, but quickly discovered that its more
than we can handle. If pornography is an issue in
your life, you are in over your head. And you
must confront it directly!

Contrary to what some teach, pornography does no good!
Dont you by the lie that it will enhance your sexual experience,
or make your marriage better. That lie is from hell. Pornography
is an evil menace to our society. It traps, and it destroys. Millions
of Individuals will not be able to live out healthy lives because of
it. Hundreds of thousands of marriages have trust issues, and
self-image issues as a result of pornography. And how many
families are we as a people willing to see annihilated because of
it? If you have been affected by pornography you know what I
am saying is true.

You will NOT gain victory over pornography until you confront
it directly. Can you remember when you were introduced to
pornography for the first time? Do you remember? From the first
time until now, have you seen the progressive steps you have
taken to view and to interact with pornography? You have got to

confront pornography directly in order to overcome it.

Pornography begins with one look, and then it leads to
additional views, and soon it gets you, and you never can have
enough. I have read that repeated exposure to any stimulus
results in neurological circuit-making in the brain. Using the
illustration of rainwater falling on a hill that gradually makes a
deeper and winder pathway. Thus repeated exposure to
pornographic images on the actual neurologic anatomy of the
brain. That is, the more one views, the deeper the erosion
channels grow. Instead of viewing people made in the image
and likeness of God, we see them as mere objects for ones own
sexual gratification.

No one will overcome and break bad in the area of
pornography until they confront pornography directly, and they
see the ugliness of this sin, and the damage it causes. Take a
good look at your own life. Can you see the trail of misery that
pornography has left behind you? Just think of the havoc that
still awaits you if you dont find victory soon!

Before we move on lets go back to that I Corinthians 6:12-20
passage. We have already seen how people are trapped by the
sin of sexual immorality (pornography), but I also mentioned
that this passage provides for us an escape out of pornography.
Allow me to point them out for us today.

12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful.
All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the

power of any. 13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for
foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not
for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
14 And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by
His power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of
Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them
members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that
he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For the two,
He says, shall become one flesh. 17 But he who is joined to the
Lord is one spirit with Him. 18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin
that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual
immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that
your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom
you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were
bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your
spirit, which are Gods.

How to be Released from Pornography

It might be lawful, but I will not be brought under the power
of any v. 12
The body is not for pornography, but for the Lord v. 13
God will raise me up and I will stand before Him v. 14
I will not harm the body of Christ (His Church) v. 15
I choose my relationship with Christ to be more valuable
v. 17
I will flee (run like there is no tomorrow) sexual immorality
(pornography), and will not sin against my own body v. 18
My body is the temple of God v. 19

 I was bought at a price, and will therefore glorify God in my

body and spirit, which are Gods v. 20

Those steps are vital to overcoming pornography, but in our
final point I want to share some very practical steps that one can
take to find a life of victory over pornography.

III. Overcoming Pornography Victoriously I Corinthians
10:17

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common
to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted
beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also
make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Dr. Charles Stanley has written, When temptation knocks.
What makes a person successful at resisting temptation? I
believe the best way to discover how to overcome temptation is
to look at the One who dealt with every temptation successfully.

What then is the way to VICTORY? How can individuals who are
trapped in pornography find victory? Allow me to share with you
four key steps. They are:

A. Repentance II Cor. 7:9-11

The Greek word, repent (metanoeo /metanoeho), means to
change direction, or to change your mind. To be abhorrent
towards sin. This word is not condemnation, but hope, and a

future. God desires that you change your direction, and in doing
so the rest of your life.

The message of John the Baptist was,

Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand! (Matt. 3:2)

The first message Jesus preached when He began His public
ministry was,

Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand (Matt. 4:17)
And this is the message we find throughout the Bible. For
example we read in II Corinthians 7:9-11, the following:

Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your
sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly
manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. 10 For
godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be
regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. 11 For
observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner:
What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves,
what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal,
what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear
in this matter.

It starts right here. If you are going to discover or even
rediscover the FREEDOM that you have in Christ, it will start
when you REPENT. Turn once and for all from the sin of
pornography. PLEASE, I beg of you to make this decision now!

Dr. Johnny Hunt has said, A clear conscience between God and
man will give you a soft pillow.

B. Accountability James 5:16

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one
another, that you may be healed. The effective fervent prayer of
a righteous man avails much.

Recently I was listening to a podcast sermon, and the speaker
was sharing about a friend of his who was dealing with the desire
to look at pornography, and what he did was to call up a friend
and he invited that friend to meet with him at a local coffee shop.
He knew that he needed the accountability of a friend. Not
someone who would judge him, but someone who would battle
with him over the desires of the flesh.

Do you have a trusted friend that you can confide in? Victory
begins here. Find a person that you can confide in, and trust that
person. Accountability can change behavior, but remember that
only repentance can change the heart.

God never intended you to battle alone. This is why even in
worldly terms we have armies!

C. Disciplines

Nothing good in life happens by chance, or accident, but by

discipline. When I speak of discipline I am talking about key

spiritual disciplines. And specifically I am speaking of three very
important areas of spiritual disciplines:

1. Prayer Talk with God about your issue.

There is awesome power as you PUSH through in prayer. Never
stop praying (I Thess. 5:17). If pornography is a problem with
you, then you ASK God to deliver you, and TRUST Him to do so.

2. Bible reading You and I have got to spend daily time in
Gods Word.

The older I get, the more I realize that Bible intake is as
important as nutritional intake (i.e., food). The Bible gives us
our spiritual substance. Amen!

The Scripture washes us. We read in Ephesians 5:26,

that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of

water by the word,

Many sins can be avoided in our lives if we would but only
develop a consistent quiet time (devotional life). Read the Bible,
meditate in Scripture, memorize key verses.

Put on the full armor of God Eph. 6;10-18

Gods word exposes the sinfulness of what you are being

tempted to do.

The Bible teaches,

How shall a young man keep himself pure, by keeping it
according to thy word. (Psalm 119:11).

3. Fellowship Church attendance is not an option. It is a
requirement for the healthy believer.

4. Fasting - I wasnt going to mention this, but someone also
suggested fasting. Fasting - abstain for food for the purpose
of drawing near to God.

If you want victory over pornography abstain from food for a
period of time, and focus the time you would give to a meal to
spend time with the Lord. Develop your sensitivity to Gods
presence and Gods voice.

D. Strategy Prov. 24:6

For by wise guidance you will wage war, and in abundance of
counselors there is victory.

We read in Proverbs 29:18,

Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint: But
happy is he who keeps the law.

 Victory comes with a price you must develop a well thought

out plan. You plan well, and then you execute that plan. Here are
some areas where you might begin to develop a well-thought
out plan:

Time keep track of your daily time.
Computer use no alone time.
Smartphone choose not to go to unhealthy sites.
Trips never travel without accountability.
Television use - read a book instead.
Passwords share them with your spouse/friend.
Magazine racks Stay away from them.
Filters American family Filter.

You might think you cannot afford to buy a filter. The truth is
that you cannot not afford to buy an internet filter. Be SAFE
rather than SORRY!

Are you aware that victory takes practice!

Watch out for times when you are tired, fatigued, depressed,
or otherwise not feeling good. STOP! DROP! And PRAY! Get some
rest, call up a friend, go out and exercise.

I was reading that victory over pornography will be a marathon
and not a sprint. The Bible says,

A righteous man falls seven times, and rises again. (Prov.
24:16).

Wrap Up

snt it time that you end your love affair with pornography?
Isnt it time that you truly MAN UP, and get out of the trap?
Havent you bleed long enough? Isnt it time that you
confront pornography directly? It is a SIN, and it has done
enough damage to you and those around you. Dont allow it any
more time in your life. ENOUGH is ENOUGH!

Now you must REPENT confess it to God as a SIN you have
allowed in your life. Call it what God calls it sexual
immorality (pornography). Seek God to deliver you today,
right now from this SIN. Turn from it, and turn towards
Christ and His Word. Change your mind see it as the evil it
really is.

Find an accountability partner (man with man/woman with
woman). Someone to pray with and hold you accountable
for your actions and behavior.


Develop the Spiritual Disciplines in your life Renew your
mind through prayer, Bible reading, solid Christian
fellowship, and fasting. Get into a small group where you
can share openly and safely your struggles.

Have a personalized strategy No man builds without a
blueprint. No army wages war without a battle plan. No one
finds victory without coming up with a clear and easy plan

to follow. Develop a strategic plan specifically for you own

personal life.
