OT Medico Legal Reports - What the Courts Expect

Workshop Overview:
This course is aimed at experienced occupational therapists who currently perform medico-legal assessments
and reports or those who are interested in entering this area of practice.
Participants will be provided with information regarding the basics of medico-legal report writing including the layout, what
to include and what not to include and how to ensure compliance with court rules.
A leading occupational physician with extensive experience as an expert witness and working with occupational therapists
will provide an opinion on what makes a good OT medico-legal report and what makes a bad report.
A solicitor practicing in the personal injury field will provide information on what is expected of OTs in both report writing
and in the court room in the case of giving evidence.

To enable the participant to have greater knowledge on how to write a clear, succinct and relevant report for
medicolegal purposes.
To ensure the participant has a greater understanding of the lawyer/expert witness relationship and what is expected
of Occupational Therapists in this relationship.
To ensure the participant knows how to prepare and set out an expert report to ensure compliance with court rules.

Presenter Details:
Angela McNameee graduated with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from the University of Queensland in 1995. Over
the past 17 years she has worked in both the public and private sectors providing Occupational Therapy services to
children and adults with a range of injuries and disabilities. For the past 12 years Angela has had extensive experience
providing workplace rehabilitation and injury prevention services to a range of industries. This work has involved
performing workplace evaluations, functional capacity evaluations, job/task analyses, pre-employment assessments,
preparation of return to work programs and workplace training in manual handling and office ergonomics. Throughout this
period Angela has also had extensive experience in performing medico-legal functional capacity evaluations and home
assessments of both children and adults with various injuries and disabilities.
Dr Keith Adam is currently senior occupational physician and Chief of Professional Services at Medibank Health
Solutions. He was formerly Partner and Director of Health for Industry. Keith is highly regarded as an expert for workplace
injuries and illnesses and has provided evidence in countless legal cases over a number of years. He has held many
professional appointments such including with the Workplace Health and Safety Board, Chemical Risk Management
Group, the General Medical Assessment Tribunal. Keith has practiced as a specialist occupational physician and been a
Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine for over 20 years.
