Parlor Class Is Planning for the

Future
The Parlor Class will likely
wrap up its study of A Spirituality of
Caregiving by Henri Nouwen by the end of
March, or in early April. We are looking at four
options for our next study:
1. Kerygma course, The Gospel of John,
which will run about 6 months. The Students
Book will cost $20 plus.
2. Also based on the Gospel of John, is a
series of 3 four-week studies entitled:
Unusual Gospel for Unusual People. Each of
the three study books will cost $8.50.
3. The Fruitful Living Series. This series
takes the discussion of Christian practice from
the congregational level to the personal
practices of discipleship. This series grew out
of the book, Five Practices of Fruitful
Congregations, a congregation-wide study
here a few years back. Each of the five topics
will take 4 weeks. All five books, good for 20
weeks of study, will run $30, or $7 each, if
bought separately.
4. A 24-session course, using lectures on
DVD by Dr. Bart Ehrman, Professor of
Religious Studies of the University of North
Carolina, from the Great Courses series. The
cost of the DVD course will be $39.95, plus
shipping charges, which will be shared by
members of the class.
If you are not currently participating
in a Sunday morning class, and thats most of
our congregation, and any one of these course
options interests you, you are encouraged to
speak to a member of the Parlor Class and
express your interest to them so they can add
that information to the groups discussion of
these options. They are: Lori Albrecht, Leslie
Beck, Sybil Dittberner, Nancy Knott, Mariette
Linberg, Jan McCuen, Pam Newton, Beverly
Reinke, Ada Rodman, Judi Smedley, Ede
Stahnke, Pat Van Vliet and Kathy Wright.

Easter Chancel Choir Cantata

Lift Up the Cross
TODAY
10:15 AM Worship

The Chancel Choir will perform the

Easter Cantata, Lift Up the Cross, by Dennis
& Nan Allen.
Millions have been drawn to Christ
through his sacrificial, atoning death,
symbolized forever by the cross. This musical
blend of familiar hymns, original songs and
contemporary Christian music uses short
narration to illustrate the scripture If I be
lifted up, I will draw all nations unto
me. (John 12:32)
The Chancel Choir will be accompanied
with an ensemble band for this
Palm Sunday celebration. Barbara Fenters
and Dale Suggs will serve as narrators.

Holy Week Prayer Vigil

The Council of Elders will have our annual Holy Week Prayer Vigil from 8:00 P.M.
Maundy Thursday (March 24) until 7:00 P.M. Good Friday (March 25.) If you have never
been a part of this experience, you will be richly blessed by taking one of the hour slots
and pray. You are encouraged to come pray in the Sanctuary if possible. (I have been so full-filled by
spending the wee hours of the morning in prayer in our sanctuary. Editor.)
If you would be willing to be here in the Narthex to let people in to pray, we need to staff
the church from: March 24, 8:00 p.m. 11:00 p.m.; 11:00 p.m. March 24, - 2:00 a.m.; March 25; 2:00
a.m. Please let Donna know if you can be available any of these times.
There is a Prayer Vigil Board in the Narthex for you to sign up. Thanks.

Today Is Last Day To Sign Up - A Mission Trip Opportunity

Last year, the Outreach Ministry explored the possibility of going to
the Fresno area to spend a week working with Gleanings, a ministry -focused
on collecting and packaging food that farmers/growers cannot sell to markets.
We discovered that we could not get a date for a week long, i.e. Sunday to Saturday, hands-on
experience with them in helping to alleviate hunger until October of 2017. So we reserved a week in
October that at the time, was more than two years away.
An opportunity came up for the week of May 1-6. We asked them to give us until Monday,
March 21 to see if we can recruit AT LEAST 10 people to go to the Fresno area and work with this
important ministry between May 1- 6. Participants would drive north on Sunday and come home on
Saturday. Accommodations are provided on-site by Gleanings, i.e. both lodging and meals. There is
a cost involved, but if we can get a group together on short notice, we have some funds from the 2015
Alternative Gift Faire that will help defray the cost for individuals who choose to participate. If we
can recruit at least 10 people for this mission trip, well provide more information about the specific
costs involved by Easter Sunday. So, if this is something that interests you, with the understanding
that saying yes at this time does not obligate you to go the first week in May once more details are
known, please give your name to Donna Woodbridge, Secretary of the Outreach Ministry, no later
than TODAY.
The Outreach Ministry

Easter Offering to be Received On March 20 And 27

Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday are the dates set aside for the
receiving of our annual Easter Offering that supports the world-wide
ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Our goal for the 2016 Easter Offering is
$1,550.00. We received some preliminary gifts for the 2016 Easter Offering on March 13, total of $110.
One of the most important areas in the world because of conflicting national aims and
religious traditions found there is the Middle East. Global Ministries is inviting the whole church to
participate in what is known as the Middle East Initiative over the next 12 months. Congregations are
engaging with the initiative through live webinars, Bible studies, pilgrimage opportunities, childrens
materials and advocacy resources.
The ecumenical partnerships celebrated by the Middle East Initiative are the same
organizations that are responding on the ground to the massive displacement of families resulting
from the on-going conflicts in the region. They cause families to flee from their homes in order to
counter violence with hope, intolerance with compassion, and hatred with Gods love for all of
humanity. More than anything, Syrians want to be able to stay in their homes without fearing for
their lives, said Riad Jarjour to the Forum for Development, Culture and Dialogue . . . No one
wants to become a refugee, not in the U.S. or anywhere.
Our gifts in support of the Easter Offering will support works of love in the Middle East and
around the world. To make your gift, please use the Special Offering envelope and/or write
Easter Offering on the memo line of your check. Thank you for your generous support of the 2016
Easter Offering.
