Food safety is a scientific discipline describing handling, preparation, and storage of food in
ways that prevent foodborne illness. This includes a number of routines that should be followed
to avoid potentially severe health hazards. In this way Food Safety often overlaps with Food
Defense to prevent harm to consumers.
The tracks within this line of thought are safety between industry and the market and then
between the market and the consumer. In considering industry to market practices, food safety
considerations include the origins of food including the practices relating to food labeling, food
hygiene, food additives and pesticide residues, as well as policies on biotechnology and food and
guidelines for the management of governmental import and export inspection and certification
systems for foods. In considering market to consumer practices, the usual thought is that food
ought to be safe in the market and the concern is safe delivery and preparation of the food for the
consumer.
Food is important for life. To be healthy and active, we should certainly have enough food.
But the foods we eat should also be safe and rich in all the nutrients our body needs. We should
choose from a wide variety of foods and we should eat them regularly, throughout the day, every
day of the year. Do not forget that we should also enjoy the food that we eat; it should look,
smell and taste good. Without good nutrition, children and young people cannot develop their
potential to the full, and adults will have difficulty in doing their best. Food provides our bodies
with what they need to: stay alive, be active, move and work; build new cells and tissues for
growth; stay healthy and heal themselves; prevent and fight infections.
It is important to be safe when we talk about food. Food safety means our health. If we don't
check out food before we eat it means we don't care about our life, or the other's life among us.
As a parent you can't give to your children food which is expired or unhealthy. Their body will
react in many different ways and can provide some ugly illness. It is better to wash very well the
fruits and vegetables before we cook or eat them. Toxic things to make them grow are put on
them and sometimes the human body won't react by moment but with time they can develop
malfunctions, illness or death. Expired food is also a danger because some products can grow
batteries which the human body won't be able to manage with.
Food contamination that occurs in one place may affect the health of consumers living on the
other side of the planet. This means that everyone along the production chain, from producer to
consumer, must observe safe food handling practices.
Food safety is about handling, storing and preparing food to prevent infection and help to
make sure that our food keeps enough nutrients for us to have a healthy diet. Unsafe food and
water means that it has been exposed to dirt and germs, or may even be rotten, which can cause
infections or diseases such as diarrhea, meningitis, etc. These diseases can make people very sick
or even be life threatening. When people are sick, they are weak and would have difficulty
working or concentrating at school. Some of these infections also make it difficult for our bodies
to absorb the nutrients they need to get healthy. Unsafe or stale foods also deteriorate and be of
poor quality, which means they lose nutrients and so we do not get enough of what we need for a
healthy diet. So unsafe food can also lead to poor nutrition.
In the end, food safety means development of the human race. As long as the food is healthy and
less modified as long the people will live and have a healthy body and mind.
