Make sure you are prepared!
Its important to make a good first impression and know about
the job youre applying for. Here are some suggestions to help
you:

Do your research. Learn about the employer and the


position you are applying for before the interview. How will
you be able to help them?

Pay attention to your appearance. Make sure you are


clean and professional looking.

Be sure to arrive 10 minutes early to any interview.

Be formal but friendly. Say hello to your interviewer and


introduce yourself with a smile.

Listen carefully to the interviewer. Ask them to repeat a


question if you dont understand it.

Prepare your answers. If you have worked before, talk


about your experiences.

Use examples of how your skills and abilities fit the job you
want to have. Sell yourself!

Plan your questions. Ask questions about the job. This will
show you are interested and responsible.

Above all, be natural and be yourself.

1. Tell me about yourself.
I am from / I come from Sombor, a town in Serbia.
Currently, I am a student at the University of Belgrade and I study Law. Im in my final year but I
plan to do a masters degree after I graduate.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling and learning languages. Im also interested in volunteering
because I like helping people.

2. What are you studying at university?


At this time, Im in my second year of Architecture at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi
Sad.
I really love Architecture because I have always been interested in design and the history of
architecture.
After that, I would like to continue with my studies and do a masters degree in the same field.

3. What do you know about our company?


I have read on your website that Marriott International is a hotel chain from Maryland. It is the
leader in hotel industry. It has hotels in over 70 different countries.
Also, some of my friends have worked in one of your hotels and they say that the work
atmosphere is lively and really friendly.

4. What is your primary reason for joining the W&T USA program?
The best thing about the program is that I get the chance to experience the American way of
living and the multicultural environment. The program also gives me an opportunity to become
more independent, improve my English, travel around the USA and gain some working
experience.

5. What do you think is your most important skill / characteristic?


I would say Im a / I see myself as a people person. I really enjoy meeting and working with a lot
of different people.
My friends tell me that I am a perfectionist. I pay attention to all the details, and like to be sure
that everything is just right.
My greatest strength is my flexibility. At university, I have learned that some projects require
individual attention and others involve teamwork, and I have successfully handled both.
I have excellent communication skills. Most of my teachers have pointed out my ability to
organize my thoughts, give presentations and communicate with different listeners.

6. What are your plans for the future?
After I return from the US, my primary goal is to graduate and continue with my studies, possibly
do a masters degree.
Although it is hard to predict the future, I believe that I will become a very good software
engineer.
Through my academic studies, I have enjoyed organizing projects, so Id like to pursue a career in
project management.

7. What would be your best job in the USA?


Although Im extremely adaptable, I would prefer to work as a hostess because this job provides
me with an opportunity to improve my English. And also, I have developed excellent people skills
by working on some projects which required me to interact with people.

8. Do you know what this job is about?


I have read the job description. / My agency has informed me about the job. / I have done some
research.
I have learned that the main responsibilities are serving and charging customers.
I know that my main duties include keeping the rooms tidy, making beds and maintaining
hygiene.

Is location important to you? Where would you like to go?

Although I would prefer to stay in the Mid-Atlantic area / on the East Coast, I wouldnt reject
other offers.
I have heard great things about Alaska from my friends who have participated in the program. I
know that it is a place with breathtaking nature and outgoing people.

10. How do you feel about being separated from your friends and
family for 4 months?
Although my family and I have never been separated for that long, my parents dont live in the
same place where I study so I have been living alone for two years already and Im quite
independent.
Of course, I will miss both my family and friends, but I can talk to them over Skype. Also, I make
friends easily so I surely wont be lonely.
