Motivation Letter

Dear Sir/Madam,
I was very glad when I saw this particular opportunity to apply for a Master
program in Aeronautical Engineering in Politechnico di Milano and with this
letter I would like to express my strong motivation for this master course.
As far as my background is concerned, I have been brought up in
Sheikhupura which is considered to be a pretty backward area of Pakistan as
compared with the big cities like Islamabad. Despite that I have worked my
way up by not getting into the dilemma of belonging to a backward area,
getting high grades in my high school and making my way into Institute of
Space Technology. This is what I am, an enthusiastic and highly motivated
individual who has a strong belief in himself and who can work hard to get
whatever is desired.
I finished my schooling with 90% marks and high school with 81%. I have
done B.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering in Sep 2013. I was placed among top
5% of students who were seeking for admission in our reputed institute with
a 98.9 percentile in entrance exam. I feel proud to say that my Institute is
one of the best institutes in the state standing fifth in engineering ranking by
HEC. I was among top five students of my batch. I got 2 nd position in junior
and senior of Aerospace Engineering and five times got scholarship award
because of taking high SGPA.
In the current technological scenario where Aerospace engineers are
proliferating, I felt that I had to achieve something different to stand out in
this competitive environment. Pursuing this in built motive, I have worked on
Design and Fabrication of 3- axis CNC Water Jet Cutting Machine as my
final year project. I fabricated the whole machine which worked successfully
and cut different samples of different shapes with this machine. I won poster
competition on this project in Third International Conference on Aerospace
Science and Engineering held in Institute of Space Technology. I have
acquired preliminary knowledge of fluid and computational mechanics as
well as spacecraft mechanics, dynamics, control and propulsion during my
undergraduate studies. I have also completed the conceptual design of a
commercial aircraft in my Aero Vehicle Design course using Pro-E, Matlab,
and RDS. I have acquired competence in softwares like MATLAB, Gambit,
Fluent, ANSYS Workbench, XFLR, AVL, Datcom+ and Solid Works.
I have done internship at PAC (Pakistan Aeronautical Complex) which was on
jet fighters like Mirage, F-16 and JF-17 thunder. During this internship I

worked in Structural section, Engine Repair and Overhaul Section and also
spent time on Base and Line maintenance facilities where I learn lot of
things. After my engineering, I got the job in Control and Signal processing
Research Group as a Design Engineer in Mohammad Ali Jinnah University,
Islamabad and still working. During my 23 months job tenure I worked on
different computational fluid dynamics techniques like dynamic meshing,
multiple reference frame and fluid structure interaction and also
implemented these techniques on aircraft analysis. In all these techniques
FEA and CFD involves extensively. During my job, I also worked on detail
designing of low cost open circuit subsonic wind tunnel and also validate the
design with the help of computational fluid dynamics software. I also
designed different types of aircraft by using solid works and creo and
established their linear and nonlinear mathematical models and find out
stability derivatives. I also worked on designing of 24 hour endurance solar
aircraft. I have also wrote two research papers which are under the process
of reviewing. One paper is on Long Endurance Solar UAV and other one is
on Design of Low Cost Open Circuit Subsonic Wind Tunnel.
My two year research work motivated me to further enhance my abilities and
knowledge by getting admission in Politechnico di Milano. I would like to
learn about mechanical designing of aircrafts in detail. I want to get detail
knowledge of aircraft manufacturing methods. For this purpose I also
attended a two weeks workshop on cost effective manufacturing of
composites materials and earn one CPD point. In this workshop, I learn
different methods of aircraft components manufacturing with composites. I
also want to gain knowledge in measuring aircraft components and systems
performance. I also want to gain further understanding about the subjects of
my interest: Flight Dynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Propulsion and Structure. This
is my main motive behind taking admission in Master program of
Aeronautical Engineering. My internship at Pakistan Aeronautical
Complex also motivated me to go for this course.
I fully realize the fact that the research at highly esteemed university like
Politechnico di Milano requires rock solid commitment and dedication. I want
to be a part of graduate program at Milano because this university earns a
high academic reputation by providing ready access to resources for
research. An affordable fee structure, multitude of Scholarships, student
assistance ship and numerous chances of internship provided by Politechnico
di Milano make it an ideal place to get higher education.
I have always kept balance between curricular and co-curricular activities. I
have hosted formal and informal events in my high school and university. I
have involved myself in fundraising and sponsor seeking campaigns for

university welfare society Umeed. I have managed various events held at

IST i.e. Space Week, DICE2010, Youth Carnival etc.
In my view, getting a Masters degree is not the ultimate goal, but a very
important and large step towards the acquirement of knowledge. In this
manner I believe I can make a significant and purposeful contribution to the
scientific community as well as to my country Pakistan while gaining a great
deal of personal satisfaction.
Thank you very much and looking forward to your acceptance.
Yours Sincerely,

Fahad Amin.
