9) Industrial Development Corporation (Engineering) Bursary


About The IDC provide finance for industrial development projects by promoting
partnerships across industries within and outside our borders, promoting regional
economic growth. The IDC provide bursaries to students who qualify for admission to a
University or University of Technology or who are currently studying at a University or
University of Technology.
Fields of study
Engineering: Electronic, Agricultural, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Industrial,
Mechanical, Metallurgical and Mining.
Who Can Apply Applicants must have Grade 12 Maths and Science with a minimum of
a B aggregate symbol.
University or University of Technology students who have already successfully
completed one or more years will be considered on their Grade 12 and most recent

academic results.
If you are already studying towards a degree course for which you are applying for a
bursary, you must have passed all courses for which you have registered at the
university for the study period already completed.
Applications must be for full time studies towards an academic degree at an accredited
South African university or university of technology. Fields of study in which bursaries
are awarded have to be directly related to industry, and will only include the following: 1*
Engineering: BSc Industrial, Chemical, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Mining,
Metallurgy, Civil, Analytical Chemistry and Geology. (University of technology level
leading to BTech)
Value The value of the bursary for full-time undergraduate/ diploma studies comprises of
the following:
Boarding: In the case of bursars residing with their parents/guardians or privately, a
stipend is granted. In the case of students residing in official University/ University of
Technology residences, full residence fees are paid to the relevant institution
(Catering/Self catering residences).
Tuition and registration fees: A stipend for books and stationery is granted bi-annually.
Duration Bursaries are renewable annually, subject to acceptable proof of progress from
the institution.
Service Contract Bursars may be expected to remain in the employ of the Corporation
for a period equal to the number of years of the awarded bursary. Such employment is
subject to the normal selection procedures and salary and employment conditions of the
Corporation.

10) Kantey and Templer Bursary Scheme

About The Kantey & Templer Bursary and Educational Assistance Scheme has been
created to provide financial assistance for the study of civil, mechanical or electrical
engineering at tertiary level for persons who, through proven academic performance and
personal circumstances, are considered deserving of support. Applications from
previously disadvantaged individuals are encouraged.

Who Can Apply Applications for financial assistance can be considered for study at any
South African university or university of technology offering BSc degrees or technical
diplomas in civil, mechanical or electrical engineering. Bursaries are normally provided
for a first degree or diploma and could include the first year of study. Applications by
students who have already successfully completed at least one year of tertiary study and
have thus proven their academic ability, are preferred

Value The value of any approved bursary will be decided upon based on the merits of
the application and on the costs of the course of study to be followed. It would normally

books or other study materials. Only in exceptional cases would the value include an
accommodation allowance.
Duration Bursaries are awarded for one academic year at a time, but can be extended
to subsequent years if academic performance is satisfactory.
Service Contract Successful applicants will be required to be available to work at an
office of Kantey & Templer for a period of at least twelve months for each year a bursary
had been awarded. Such period of employment would normally be after successful
completion of the degree or diploma.

12) Mineral Qualifications Authority (MQA) Bursary


About The MQA bursary scheme was established to increase the number of learners
taking careers in the mining and minerals sector. The bursary will be awarded to
students enrolled in careers identified in the scarce and critical skills list, particularly in
core mining related disciplines.

Who Can Apply Bursars entering their first year of study who possess a South African
Matriculation Certificate (or an evaluated equivalent qualification) in the subjects and
with subject grades that are required by the academic institution (or such equivalent
qualification as that the institution may determine), for undergraduate studies. In addition
to the above, meet any other entrance criteria as prescribed by the academic. institution.
Bursars entering their second or third year of study who meets the requirements as
specified in this criteria. Bursaries will be awarded to students enrolled in the MQA
identified scarce and critical skills list. Preference will be given to students enrolled in
Mining disciplines. Special consideration to female or disabled applicants.
Value The MQA bursary covers full tuition, accommodation, meals and book allowances.
Duration Bursaries shall be granted for an initial period of one academic year and shall
thereafter be renewable annually at the sole and absolute discretion of the MQA.
Service Contract The MQA carries a service obligation and successful applicants will
be obligated to secure employment within the South African mining and minerals sector
for the same amount of years as the sponsored bursary.

13) Mintek (Undergraduate Bursary)


About The aim of Minteks Undergraduate Bursary Programme is primarily to ensure a
steady supply of trained and highly skilled technical people to meet a major portion of
Minteks operational, research, and development manpower intake needs, and also to
provide appropriately-skilled graduates to the broader South African minerals and
metallurgy sector. Mintek provides bursaries for undergraduate degrees, Honours
degrees and BTech diplomas.

About The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) is a government agency
which aims to build the technical capacity of municipalities to undertake efficient
planning, delivery, operations and management of municipal infrastructure. MISA strives

15) Murray & Roberts Bursary (Undergraduate)


About Murray & Roberts offers bursaries for top South African achievers who desire to
be part of a world class organization with a global presence. Bursaries are available for
students studying towards a BSc, B Eng or B Tech qualifications in the fields of
Engineering (civil; mechanical; industrial; electrical and mining), Quantity Surveying and
Building/Construction Management. Awards are given to those students with financial
needs and on academic merit.

company pays for university provided (residential) accommodation and food or the
student may receive an equivalent monthly allowance to assist with his/her living
expenses and this must be utilised to cover accommodation, food and traveling
expenses.

Duration Bursaries are reviewed after each examination based on the students
academic performance and renewed annually.
Service Contract Successful applicants enter into a bursary loan agreement with
Murray & Roberts. Vacation work required. Service contract corresponds to the duration
of the bursary.
