Unmanned aircraft, known variously as drones,
remotely piloted vehicles (RPVs), and now
unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), have been a
feature of aviation for much of its history, though in
limited or secondary roles.

In 2010, the Iranians showed off a new jet-powered
drone, the Karrar (Striker). It was displayed
carrying a 125 kilogram (250 pound) bomb under
each wing

The typical launch and recovery method of a drone is
by the function of an automatic system or an external
operator on the ground. Historically, UAVs were
simple remotely piloted aircraft, but autonomous
control is increasingly being employed. They are
usually deployed for military and special operation
applications, but also used in a growing number of
civil applications, such as policing and firefighting,
and nonmilitary security work, such as inspection of
power or pipelines. UAVs are often preferred for
missions that are too dull, dirty or dangerous for
manned aircraft.

motoare). Astfel de drone sunt folosite pentru filmare
i fotografiere de la nlime i aa a fost cazul i celei

informaii i bombardarea anumitor puncte strategice,
iar asta fr a risca viaa vreunui soldat. Mai mult,
cele responsabile de colectarea de informaii sunt
capabile de autonomii impresionante, fiind alimentate
i cu energie solar. Totui, aceste modele cost zeci
de milioane de dolari. Mult mai ieftine sunt dronele
civile.
