Easter Sunday

Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Risen Lord,

When we celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord at
Easter, we affirm the center of our faith and we renew
our hope. Jesus Resurrection signals His victory over
sin and death. He has conquered whatever would
diminish us and separate us from God and the fullness
of life.
We all need this celebration of Easter which can
be like an infusion of air and light in our lives which
are often weighed down by sickness, anxiety, broken
relationships, and personal struggles with sin and
temptation. As we continue our life journey, we can
count on the Resurrection of Jesus as a sure compass
of hope that helps us navigate our turbulent world.
In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we clearly
recognize that the Resurrection of Jesus is the triumph
of Gods mercy. The new life and hope that the
Resurrection brings us is not the result of our works or
merits. It is pure grace, a sheer gift of love that comes
to us because of Gods mercy. When we stand before
that mercy, we know that we are both indebted and
responsible. We are indebted to the Lord for His gift,
and all we can do is give Him thanks and sing His
praise. We are also responsible, for if mercy has
touched us we must then be the hands and instruments
of Gods mercy in the world. When we carry on the
spiritual and corporal works of mercy, we give living
witness to our faith in His most merciful Resurrection.
Let us pray for one another. Let us renew our faith
in the power of Christs Resurrection to bring Gods
mercy and renewal to a world in need.

Queridos hermanas y hermanos en el Seor Resucitado:

Cuando durante la Pascua celebramos la Resurreccin
del Seor, afirmamos el centro de nuestra fe y renovamos
nuestra esperanza. La Resurreccin de Jess seala Su
victoria sobre el pecado y la muerte. l ha vencido todo lo
que nos disminuira y nos separara de Dios y de la
plenitud de la vida.
Todos necesitamos esta celebracin de la Pascua, que
puede ser como una infusin de aire y luz en nuestras
vidas, las cuales a menudo se encuentran apesadumbradas
por la enfermedad, la ansiedad, las relaciones rotas y las
luchas personales contra el pecado y la tentacin. En
nuestro andar por ese camino que es la travesa de nuestra
vida, podemos contar con la Resurreccin de Jess como
una brjula segura de esperanza que nos ayuda a navegar
nuestro mundo turbulento.
En este Jubileo de la Misericordia, reconocemos
claramente que la Resurreccin de Jess es el triunfo de la
misericordia de Dios. La nueva vida y esperanza que nos
trae la Resurreccin no es el resultado de nuestros trabajos
o mritos. Es pura gracia, un gran regalo de amor que nos
llega a causa de la misericordia de Dios. Cuando estamos
ante esa misericordia sabemos que estamos en deuda, y
que adems somos responsables. Estamos en deuda con el
Seor por Su regalo, y lo nico que podemos hacer es dar
gracias y cantar sus alabanzas. Tambin somos
responsables, porque si la misericordia nos ha tocado
entonces debemos ser las manos y los instrumentos de la
misericordia de Dios en el mundo. Cuando llevamos a
cabo las obras espirituales y corporales de misericordia,
damos un testimonio viviente de la fe que profesamos a
Su ms misericordiosa Resurreccin.
Oremos unos por otros. Renovemos nuestra fe en el
poder que posee la Resurreccin de Cristo para llevar la
misericordia y la renovacin de Dios a un mundo
necesitado.

Fifty years or so ago, it was popular to teach that

every Sunday is a Little Easter. Today, after several
decades of intense liturgical reform, it is more proper
to think of today as a Big Sunday. On every Sunday
of the year, the Church is obliged to assemble, keeping the day holy. In most places, we hardly attain the
goal of gathering all who are in Christ by baptism.
Look around today and see what a Big Sunday looks
like!

Hace casi dos mil aos Mara Magdalena fue muy

de maana al sepulcro de Jess. Fue a rezar como muchos hacemos ante la tumba de un ser amado. Esa maana ella se convertira en apstol de los apstoles,
primera testigo de Jess resucitado de entre los muertos. Siglos despus el testimonio de la Magdalena sigue siendo importante en la historia cristiana. Durante
estos das en Anguiano, Espaa, hombres y jvenes de
las viejas familias de la zona bailan y caminan con
una pequea imagen de la Magdalena. Se visten con
camisas y faldones largos de muchos colores, mostrando la belleza de la diversidad hispana. Ellos bailan
en honor de esa santa mujer de Magdala y lo hacen
sobre andas de casi un metro de altura. Ellos toman la
imagen desde la iglesia de su pueblo en las montaas
en el norte del pas y la llevan bailando por las calles
empedradas bajando al santuario que han preparado
para ella. Todo el pueblo reza y festeja en honor de la
santa que fue buscando un difunto y se encontr con
el Seor de la vida eterna.

Our tradition speaks of remembering, anamnesis,

as the antidote to amnesia, the tragic forgetting of
who God is and who we are as Gods most beloved
creation. On this Easter day, we are at our very best.
We remember who God is, and we remember who we
are in Gods eyes: beloved sons and daughters, reborn
to eternal life in baptismal waters. We rekindle our
candles and reclaim our baptismal promises. As a
Big Sunday, today also reflects the character of festivity and leisure that should mark every Lords Day.
We wear Sunday best today, and we may take some
time, especially in the northern states, to stroll through
a budding garden. It is truly a Big Sunday, and how
different our lives would be if we took its values and
traditions forward into all the Sundays of our lives.

St. James the Greater was one of Jesus Apostles.

His mother approached Jesus on His final journey and
asked that her two sons sit on His left and right (Mt
21). Tradition tells us that St. James was put to death
by Herod when he returned to Judea because of his
preaching in Spain. During the Middle Ages, people
walked this route to visit the tomb of St. James. Now,
this is one of the most famous pilgrimages with
thousand of pilgrims walking annually.
Many people refer to the Camino as The Way of
St. James. The complete journey is 500 miles. In
order to receive a certificate of accomplishment, the
pilgrim must walk at least the last 100 km which is
about a five-to-six day walk. Pilgrims from all over
the world have different motives for making this
lifetime trek. They can be identified by the shell that
they wear while traveling. Stamps are collected in a
passport book as they travel from town to town.
Individuals can also gain a plenary indulgence by
visiting the tomb of St. James and completing the
practices set by the Church.
My journey began about a week ago. I have
carried the names and prayer intentions of family
members and friends as I walked. I lifted up my joys
and sufferings. It has been an honor to make the trip
carrying all the prayers.
Today my husband, Todd and I celebrate Easter at
the Church of St. James.
Christ has risen, alleluia!

Santiago el Mayor fue uno de los apstoles de

Jess. Su madre se acerco a Jess en su viaje final y le
pidi que sus hijos se sentaran a su izquierda y a su
derecha (Mt 21). La tradicin nos dice que Santiago
fue ejecutado a cusa de la predicacin en Espaa por
Herodes cuando regreso a Judea. Durante la Edad
Media la gente caminaban esta carretera para visitar la
tumba de Santiago. Ahora bien, esta es una de las
peregrinaciones mas famosas que miles de peregrinos
caminan cada ao.
Muchas personas refieren al Camino como el
Camino de Santiago. El recorrido completo es de 500
millas. Con el fin de recibir un certificado de logro,
los peregrinos deben caminar los ltimos 100 km que
es alrededor de cinco a seis da de caminata.
Peregrinos de todo el mundo tienen diferentes motivos
para hacer esta caminata. Pueden ser identificados por
la carcasa que llevan durante el viaje. Sellos se
recogen en una libreta de pasaporte como un viaje de
ciudad en ciudad. Las personas tambin pueden ganar
una indulgencia plenaria visitando la tumba de
Santiago y completando la practica establecida por la
iglesia.
Mi viaje comenz hace una semana. Me he
llevado conmigo los nombres y las intenciones de
oracin de los miembros de mi familia y amigos en mi
caminata. Alc mis elecciones y sufrimientos. Ha sido
un honor hacer el viaje llevando todas las oraciones .
Hoy en da mi marido, Todd y yo celebramos la
Pascua en la iglesia de Santiago.
