Arteries

Subclavian Artery
Branch off Branch Supplies Misc Part of
Subclavian Subclavian
Vertebral Artery Enters transverse foramen C6 up and enters 1st
foramen magnum
Thyrocervical Inferiror Ascends along medial border of Ant. 1st
Trunk Thyroid Scalene. Behind Prevertebral Fascia.
Passes down to lower pole of thyroid gland
Transverse Trapezius Runs superficially lateralward across Ant.
Cervical Scalene and Post. Triamgle to anterior
border of trapezius
Suprascapular Scapula Passes downward and lateralward across
Ant. Scalene, subclavian, and brachial
plexus. Runs posteriorly along clavicle to
dorsum of scapula
Ascending Neck Muscles Ant. To cervical transverse processes, deep
Cervical to prevertebral fascia
Internal Thoracic Ant. Thoracic Inferior aspect of subclavian and behind 1st
clavicle
Costocervical Semispinalis Passes posteriorly over cervical dome and 2nd
Trunk Capitis and apex of lung. Divides into highest
cervisis intercostal which provide post. Intercostals
arteries to first and second intercostals
spaces and deep cervical branch

Common Carotid
Origin Course Becomes…
Right from brachiocephalic artery Through the neck in the At upper border of thyroid cartilage it divides
Left from aortic arch carotid sheath into external and internal carotids

Internal Carotid
Info Branches Info on branch
Continues in carotid sheath to base of
skull. Gives no branches in the neck.
Enters skull through carotid canal.
Principle artery of brain and orbit
Opthalmic Artery Emerges just as int. carotid emerges from
cavernous sinus on either side of sella tursica
Enters orbit via optic canal with optic nerve
Carotid Sinus Dialation at terminal end of common carotid
artery and root of int. carotid. This is region of
blood pressure regulation.

External carotid
From upper border of thyroid cartilage to neck of mandible. NOT in carotid sheath.
Branches Runs to: Misc Branches
Superior Thyroid Thyroid gland First branch
Artery
Lingual Artery Tip of tongue
Facial Artery Along inf. border of Arises above lingual Tonsilar and Palatine
mandible to angle of in the neck
mouth to medial Labial and Nasal in the
angle of eye Face
Ascending Pharynx wall Ascends along side of the
Pharangeal pharynx. Medial aspect of
external carotid in the
carotid triangle
Occipital Artery* Posterior aspect of Ext.
carotid. Pierces investing
layers of cervical fascia
between SCM and
trapezius. Enters the scalp
and runs with Greater
occipital nerve.
Posterior Auricular Posterior aspect of Ext.
carotid. Ascends between
the ext. auditory meatus
and mastoid process to the
scalp.
Maxillary Artery Nasal Cavity, Orbit, Large Artery. Goes into Gives rise to numerous These are
Dura Matter, Upper pterygopalatine fossa to branches that are all part of
teeth, Palette, Lower break up into end branches distributed with the
teeth, Oral cavity mandibular and terminal
maxillary division of branch of
trigeminal CNV the
Middle meningeal Runs through foramen external
(Branch of Maxillary spinosum. Deep to pterion Carotid.
Artery) and can be ruptured w/
blow to head.
Muscular branches Masseteris, deep
(Branch of Maxillary temporal, buccal, and
Artery) pterygoid. (Muscles
of mastication)
Inferior Alveolar Lower teeth Exits mandible through
(Branch of Maxillary mental foramen and
Artery) emerges and mental artery.
Posterior superior Post. Upper teeth
alveolar
Sphenopalatine* Nasal Cavity Bleeding nose. Warms Air
Superficial Terminal branch arises Transverse Facial
temporal behind neck of mandible. Artery
Smaller than maxillary.
Corsses zygomatic arch and
enters scalp of tempral
region where it terminates
in frontal and parietal
branches.
