THUMBS UP FOR SAFE INJECTION SITES - THUMBS DOWN FOR PHOTO RADAR
April 10, (Ottawa, ON) A new Mainstreet/Postmedia poll nds strong support for safe injection sites in
Toronto with over 50% of residents in favour. However the poll also nds strong opposition to photo radar
in Toronto which was recently requested by Mayor John Tory. The Mainstreet/Postmedia Poll has a margin
of error of +/- 2.17%, 19 times out of 20.
"There appears to be strong support throughout Toronto for safe injection sites," said Quito Maggi,
President of Mainstreet Research. Weve seen safe injection sites in the news as of late and these are much
stronger numbers than weve found in Edmonton which suggests a solid base of public opinion in favour.
While in Edmonton there was 44% support, here in Toronto, where several sites are being proposed, there
is 57% support.
When it comes to Photo Radar however there is strong opposition. 57% disapprove of bringing it back. Of
course it is ironic that while Mayor Tory has made a request to the province to allow photo radar it was Mike
Harris and the PC Party that scrapped it. Nevertheless, this has the potential to be an unpopular move
particularly outside downtown Toronto.
Torontos number appears to be 57% this time around with 57% supporting safe injection sites and 57%
opposing photo radar, nished Maggi.

ONLY WE
CALLED
THE
LIBERAL
MAJORITY.

I recommend "Raiders of the Lost Campaign Arc," released Oct. 18, because its an interview
with a pollster that everyone who follows politics should hear. Quito Maggi, of Mainstreet Public
Research, was the only pollster I saw call the Liberal majority with such condence, a week
before we voted.
Maggi also has the distinction of being the guy who predicted the BC Liberals would win in 2013,
in deance of the majority of the polls.
His technique involves picking a true bellwether riding and polling it thoroughly. His explanation
for how he does it is well worth a listen and should be required research for anyone running a
political campaign. - Shannon Rupp, The Tyee, November 4th, 2015
