STEPS FOR A LESSON

WARM UP

ROUTINE: * Help them to feel confident/ secure.


* Its the backbone of the lesson.
* Provide a framework for the lesson. It should be flexible.
No more than 5-7 minutes.
Activate previous knowledge. Recall previous knowledge that is
significant for the new items to be presented.
The younger of the students the shorter the warm up is.
Use previous knowledge. Greetings. Calendar. Days. Months. Whether.
Numbers. Colours.
Students do already known tasks.

No more than 8.
Always and only in English.

CONTROLLED PRACTICE (P I)

Focus on accuracy.
5to 7minutes.
Oral work, in order to consolidate meaning and pronunciation.
Listen and repeating.
Students start using language in a controlled way.
Involves direct repetition
to memorize and
to pronounce correctly.
Repetition in different ways. Drills. (Sad, happy, scared, whispering,

etc.) According to the group we will need more or less repetition.


Its not the same as chunk of language. (Say several words as if they
were one).
Students just say what they know.
The question is where is?

Sts will repeat/drills.

CHECK
COMPREHENSION (P II)

P II

Focus on accuracy.
Average time 10to 15.
Listening, speaking and doing.
We can start presenting the written vocabulary.
We want to know if the kids remember/ recognize what they

have learned.
To check if I need to do more practice.
Check if the students have understood what they have been

repeating.
We use Total Physical Respond (TPR).
Students listen and do something.
We use TPR just as an activity.
Students respond physically to your commands.

GUIDED PRACTICE (P III)

Focus on fluency.
Last 10.
Students start using language.
Students manipulate language for themselves.
Present the written form, reading, worksheet, etc.
Teachers foster (fomenta) the use of language through games,
survey, role play, etc.

PRODUCTION
Students write the language.
It must be connected with OBJECTIVES. When we finish the
production we have to go back and see if we dealt with our
objectives.
They do something /create something. (Arts and Crafts).
Posters.
Masks.
Oral presentation.
Art piece.
Class big book / mini book.
Role-plays / acting out.
