TRAINING ON PD BLOWERS

HISTORY OF HIBON

1945 :Hibon develops expertise in the field of air blowers

Since October 2006 the Hibon brand is part of Ingersoll
Rand Industrial technologies
2008-IR INDIA starts manufacture of air blowers
2009 IR INDIA starts marketing of PD Blowers in India
2009-IR

2 PD Blowers

What is a Blower?

A blower is a low pressure

pressure, high volume machine
machine,
displacing gas (mainly air)
Standard air blower range
Typically operate between 500 mbar gauge and
1 bar gauge pressure
Typically delivers air/gas directly to process (no
receiver)

Principle of Operation

Two profiled rotors counter-rotate in a machined housing with close-tolerances.

Each rotation of the rotor set displaces a fixed volume of air from inlet to outlet.
There is no compression within the machine,
machine it simply pushes air/gas into (or pulls
from) the process to which it is connected.

5 PD Blowers

Operating principle
The top rotor confines a volume of gas on the suction side

6 PD Blowers

Operating principle
The top rotor confines a volume of gas which is isolated from the suction and delivery

7 PD Blowers

Operating principle
This is a VOLUMETRIC machine with no internal compression

8 PD Blowers

Operating principle
The rotors, synchronized by the pinions, turn in the opposite direction:

1.

without any contact between them

2.

without any contact with the fixed parts

3.

without any lubrication

Operating Principle

equal Volume
of gas per

14 PD Blowers

There is no
internal
Compression of
gas, System
resistance
determines the
head.

Characteristics
Cubic capacity: This is expressed in l/revolution (litres per revolution)
q
to
This volume, for 1 revolution of the Blower drive shaft, is equal
the following:
For the bi-lobes : to the green surface x length of the Stator x 4

For the tri-lobes : to the green surface x length of the Stator x 6

15 PD Blowers

Characteristics
Volume generated : Qve expressed in m3/min.

Qve in m3/min. = Cubic capacity in m3 x Speed in rpm.

The speed to be taken into consideration is the exact speed of the

shaft end under operating conditions.
The cubic capacity has to be converted from litres to m3.

16 PD Blowers

Characteristics
Power absorbed: Pabs is expressed in kW.
This is the product of the volume generated with p
which is the difference in pressure between the suction and delivery flanges.
Pabs in kW = Qve x

Special feature of the resisting torque

Torque = Power / Speed
For a Blower:
Qve = Cubic capacity x Speed
Torque = Cubic capacity x Speed x
Speed
Therefore
Torque = Cubic capacity x
17 PD Blowers

Characteristics
Heating : is expressed in C.

t
Pabs
Qv

Cp

in C
C=

Pabs
Qv x x Cp

= Power absorbed in Cv
= Flow rate drawn in, in m3/min.
= Specific weight of the gas on suction
= Specific heat of the gas on suction (0.24 for air)

t is the heating between the suction and delivery flanges.

To obtain the delivery temperature
temperature, the temperature of the gas on suction therefore has to be
added to the t .

18 PD Blowers

Consequences on behaviour

SNH

If the pressure remains constant and the speed changes:

Example: an SNH 6 that operates at a delivery pressure of 0.4 bars and that sucks in
ambient air at 20C.
At a speed of:
Actual flow rate:
Abs. power:
Heating:
Delivery temperature:

19 PD Blowers

1500 rpm
7,20 m3/min.

67C.

3000 rpm
17 m3/min.
25.5 kW.
40C.
60C.

Consequences on behaviour
At a CONSTANT pressure:
The temperature falls when the
speed increases

SNH

20 PD Blowers

Consequences on behaviour

SNH
When the Blower creates a VACUUM or PRESSURE:
Example: an SNH 6 that operates at a
at 20C
Under:
Actual flow rate:
Abs. power:
Heating:
y temperature:
p
Delivery

21 PD Blowers

p of 0.4 bars, at a speed of 1500 rpm and that sucks in air

Pressure

12.75 kW.
47C.
67C.

Vacuum
6.46 m3/min.
12.75 kW.
87C.
107C.

Consequences on behaviour

SNH
The difference in temperature between operation under VACUUM and operation under PRESSURE
is due to:
THE SPECIFIC WEIGHT OF THE AIR ON SUCTION
The lower the weight, the greater the heating.

22 PD Blowers

Consequences on behaviour

SNH

The Blower has a suction filter that clogs up:

Example: an SNH 6 that operates at a delivery pressure of 1 bar, at a speed of 2500 rpm, and that
sucks in ambient air at 20C
With a:
Actual flow rate:
Abs power:
Abs.
Heating:
Delivery temperature:

Clean filter (no vacuum)

12.33 m3/min.
53 24 kW.
53.24
kW
116C
136C.

Maximum temperature for this type of Blower: 140C.

140C
23 PD Blowers

Dirty filter (0.1b vacuum)

11.80 m3/min.
58 57 kW.
58.57
kW
147C.
167C.

Consequences on behaviour

SNH
The soiling or clogging-up of a filter may cause the complete destruction of a Blower.

24 PD Blowers

Operating clearances
THE 3 TYPES OF CLEARANCES

1 Clearances between stator and rotors

2 Lateral clearances

3 Clearances between rotors

25 PD Blowers

Characteristics
There is no internal compression but a simple transfer of gas from suction to delivery.

The Blower does not make any pressure or any vacuum.

It is the load losses (restriction to flow) that create the pressure or
vacuum (partial vacuum)
vacuum).

As there is no contact in the compression

p
chamber,, there is no lubrication
needed in that chamber
Therefore this type of Blower has no traces of oil or lubricant in the
compression
p
chamber.

Market Plan

Market Coverage:
Existing IR dealers will market this product as a complimentary
product offering to T30 & LIS & MIS range since the customer
profiles are similar.
Besides certain Key Accounts will be handled by IR sales
personnel directly .Key Accounts list already circulated to IR sales
force.Same will also be circulated to all dealers.
Initially dealers will give back to back orders to IR,at a later date
basis their comfort level they
y could stock orders for fast moving
g
models.
We are creating three service specialits for PD blowers, who in
turn will train IR & distributor sales . These service specialists will
be trained in June.
Basis the initial sales traction IR to stock parts at Naroda taking
guidance from global team for established norms & stocking
recommendations.
At a later stage, dealers would stock spares.
