VDP Configurator
VDP Configurator enables the automatic creation of VDP output files from HP SmartStream Designer. In the
following example, one database file is used to create a PDF output file for proofing, and a JLYT output file
for production.
To do this, the workflow uses two instances of VDP Configurator. Each instance has different parameters.
The database files are directed to two folders, which generate output files based on the Designer template
files. The output files are then directed to other folders, based on their definitions.
To set the VDP Configurator parameters:
1.
2.
3.
From the Properties pane at the bottom of the screen, look at the parameters.
4.
Name Enter a name that describes the VDP settings, or leave the default as is.
Output Format Select JLYT, PDF, or PPML. Select Default to keep the original format of the
original job.

Type If you select JLYT, then also set the Type parameter. Select Fast, Rich, or
Optimized.
Impose If you select PDF or PPML, then also set the Impose parameter, which determines
whether or not to impose.
Split Output determine whether to produce a single output file or multiple output files. Output
files can be split according to:
Template Folder Select the folder in which the Designer templates are located.
NOTE: To create a Designer template, select SmartStream Designer Tools > Pack Job > Pack to
folder.
If a template was created as an HPD or ZIP file, unzip it, and put it in the Template folder.
Use a naming convention. For example:
The .indd file (which is inside the packed folder) is named <Template folder>/Job1/Job1.indd
Imposition Configurator
Imposition Configurator enables the automatic imposition of non-imposed PDF files. In the following
example, multiple PDF files are sorted according to their sizes. The sorted PDF files then undergo different
impositions.

To do this, the workflow uses four instances of Imposition Configurator. Each instance has a different
imposition instruction:
A4 PDF files also use a large substrate size (B2) 2_up saddle stitch imposition, which is repeated 2 x 2
times on the sheet.
2.
