4th Annual Rain Barrel Workshop: Save money and conserve water by
using a rain barrel to harvest rainwater for gardens, washing decks, cars, etc. Collecting
rainwater also can prevent storm water runoff and erosion that can damage our ditches,
streams and lakes. This year, LMOA is partnering with the Thomas Jefferson Soil & Water Conservation District
(TJSWCD) and the Fluvanna Extension Service to offer this workshop on Sat., June 5, from 9 to 11AM at the pole barn at
Pleasant Grove. A short presentation will be followed by hands-on rain barrel assembly. This is an excellent family activity,
so bring the kids. Advance, paid registration is required by May 28. Cost is $55 for the first barrel and $50 for the second, with
a limit of two per family. Number of barrels is limited, so sign up now. Registration forms are available online at
www.tjswcd.org/Registration.pdf and at the Clubhouse. Send completed form and payment to TJSWCD (not to LMOA) at the
address on the form. For more information about rain harvesting, go to www.tjswcd.org/RainwaterHarvesting.html. (The ECC
recommends rain barrels be placed in an inconspicuous place on the side or rear of the home.)

2010 RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES FLYER will be delivered to mailbox cubbyholes this weekend. The flyer will feature information
about the Pool opening, Independence Day and a variety of family-friendly activities through early July. The flyer also will be available
on the LMOA website and in the Clubhouse lobby.

CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY ON SAT., JULY 3: Join your friends and neighbors for Lake Monticello’s traditional celebration
of Independence Day. Lots of favorite activities will return and some new opportunities for fun may be added. For more information, see
the Spring/Summer Recreational Activities flyer. A special flyer with the schedule of the Independence Day activities will be distributed
prior to the event.

VOLUNTEER TEAM LEADERS/EVENT COORDINATORS NEEDED to help plan and organize some of the Independence Day
activities. See the Recreational Activities flyer that is being delivered this weekend for details. Please call the Administration Office at

YES, LAKE MONTICELLO, FIREWORKS WILL LIGHT THE SKY ON JULY 3: Thanks to the member vote that
approved additional operating funds last year, fireworks will once again light up the night sky over the lake in celebration
of Independence Day. The fireworks will be shot from Beach 3 just after dark.

KIDS’ FISHING DAY, Sat., May 15, from 10AM to 12N at Tufton Pond. Children 12 and under are invited to enjoy a morning of

which includes prizes and a hot dog lunch. Rods and reels will be provided for children who don’t have their own. Sign up by May 10
by calling 589-8158.

TRASH/RECYCLING TRANSITION EFFECTIVE FIRST OF JUNE: SDI, Lake Monticello’s new trash/recycling contractor, will begin
its “single stream” household solid waste service the first of June. The most significant change in how residents will dispose of their
trash and recycling is that all will go into one container for pick up by a single truck. The co-mingled refuse will be sorted at the Van de
Linde Recycling Center at Zion Crossroads, resulting in a greater quantity of material being recycled. A special flyer outlining the
transition will be distributed to mailbox cubbyholes, posted on the website and available at the Clubhouse in advance of the change.

SPRING CLEAN UP ENDS MAY 9: The three dumpsters at Tufton Lake will be closed to residents after Sun., May 9. Restrictions
still apply.
