Inquiry Questions Answered: What does it mean to be a car guy? What does that
identity have involved in it?
Keywords: Car guy, car things
Summary + Commentary: This video is more on the side of comedy than being
informative, however I still find it informative as a look into the world that is car culture.
This video starts off by listing off 10 things that car enthusiast are known for doing (some
of them) such as how we are misunderstood because of the different language we have
when talking about cars. Also about how we are different in our practices when it come
to cars.
I believe that this is a very cool and interesting way of doing research for a topic like this
one. This topic is not something that normal research is particularly good for considering
how things change so much in this culture. The author in a creative way talks about the
areas of life that are affected by being a car person and how it is portrayed in the real
world. This gives me the research that I need to really finalize the points I would want to
bring up in my paper.
Further Questions: Is this way of life seen as a positive to others or as a negative and
how does their perception of you change in their eyes.

Inquiry Questions Answered: How are car enthusiast separated from the rest of the
world?
Keywords: Car guy, Non-car guys
Summary + Commentary: In this YouTube video, it demonstrates what was in the last
video in a different and new light. This video directly relates car people against non car
people. It talks about the difference in how driving is done, how they interact with others
on the road, how they take care of their car, etc. Example, when bird poop get on a car
guys car that they freak out compared to a non car person who might not car about it.

I think that this will be able to get people to understand the identity that car people take
on though examples that are applicable to what non car people see. The author I believe
really nails in on the head with this one using both sides to illustrate how car guys are,
very useful for my research.
Further Questions: What is identity and how does it define us?

Inquiry Questions Answered: What is identity? How does it form? How does it affect
our lives?
Keywords: Identity, Identity Formation
Summary + Commentary: This piece goes in depth into the psychological process of
one developing an identity. It goes into how identity is formed from birth all the way to
adolescence to adulthood. Along with going into the process having an identity crisis
later on in life, (a part I wont be using too much). Goes in detail about how different
sexes and different experiences change and morph you into who you are.
Using this I will relate to how car people get their identity, wither it be though experience
they have been exposed to or though someone that introduced them into this culture. The
author goes into what shapes identity, which I could use to explain the identity process
for car people. Although it will be different for everyone, I will be able to give the reader
an understanding on the thought process of a car person and examples of how these
people got involved
Further Questions: How does car culture affect everyday life?

Inquiry Questions Answered: How is identity formed? What is the connection with
identity and society
Keywords: Identity formation,
Summary + Commentary: This article takes a different look into identity using
socialization as a topic of identity relating to society. This talks about how there are
different steps in the creation of identity. The first step of the process of developing
identity is primary socialization. This includes learning a language, manners, certain
behaviors, etc. The article continues into the steps and the end of the process of identity
formation and this leads into my research of how car culture can influence this identity
that is forming.

For my research I think I will use the steps as points in someones life. With this when I
do interview I can get a since of when most people were affected by car culture in their
development of identity. Also using how involved car culture is in their identity and
relate that to when they were exposed to it and see if there is any correlation between the
two

Inquiry Questions Answered: What is car culture? What is the drive behind it?
Keywords: Car culture, gears
Summary + Commentary: This video is mostly an ode to what car culture is and what it
stands for. Not only does it put you into the shoes of someone involved in the culture,
but it gives you background, reasons for the love of cars, and why we keep striving to do
better things with our cars. There is a big obsession in the car world with wanting more
and more from a car until we hit the breaking point where everything is perfect. Cars are
an extension of the person and this explains it perfectly. The author explains the reason
that people have a passion for cars.
This will be used for majority of my research as this will be the backbone for my
explanation of why car culture is in existence. Using this to get the point across that car
culture is a very elaborate idea and really explain the side that most people dont see.

This was the most research that I needed for my topic considering that I will be
doing a lot of independent research with multiple interviews. So I only had 5
sources. I hope this was ok!
