Salemisacitycouncilwhodoesnotrespect,norvaluethevoiceofchangeandnewideas.

ChuckBennettbelievesthepublichaveenoughinputviacitycouncilmeetingswhentheyhave3
minutestospeak.Idonot.Ifeelweneedtomendtheriftbetweencityhallandcitizens.Chuck
votedtoaddtheStreetlightfeetoSalemwater/sewerbillsbecausehefeelsthecityneedsthe
moneymorethancitizensdo.Idisagree.Addingunrelatedfeestowater/sewerfeesiswrong.
WeareinacycleofaddingfeesforeverylittlethingtoincreaserevenuetotheCity.Ibelieve
wecanreachabetterbalanceandrestoresomeservicestocitizens.

successfulprogramUrbanRenewaleveroffered.Iworkedontheoriginalstreetscapeprogram
inthe1990salongwithskybridges,andalleyimprovements.Iworkedwiththedowntown
businessesandcommunitytocreateanewvisionofStreetscapethatwouldconnectRiverfront
Park,theCapitolMallandWillametteUniversity.Thenewstreetscapevisionincluded
architects,citizens,businessandpropertyownersallworkingtogetherforfreetomaketheir
communitybetter.

addingfreestoCitywater/sewer(orothercity)bills.Onlyinstallparkingmetersdowntownifa
majorityofbusinessesaskforthem.Workwiththenewcitymanagertocreateaplantoreduce
the$200millionbackloginmaintenanceoncityownedproperty.UseUrbanRenewaldollarsto
increasepropertyvaluesinsteadoftrafficlight,newintersections,sewerprojects,paving.etc.
