Description
Consists in a compact automatic machine, reliable,
very easy-to-use, very precise and able to perform 250
pellet test in about 50 minutes, in accordance with
international standards, against 3 hour or more in a
conventional one.
Operation is very simple, with a minimum laboratory
space required and the
quality results improves through a precise test
conditions control. It is connected to networks.

Automatic Machine for Measuring the Cold Compression
Strength (CCS)
1. Overview
This automatic machine is an equipment that improves the compression strength test by
eliminating manual operation. All the calculations are performed by the microcomputer
and final report is printed out after the test.
The quality of test is greatly improved by a precise automated control of test conditions
and elimination of the human errors from the operation. With the automatic machine, a
better quality test is obtained and a lot of manual operations and time are saved.
A typical duration of an automatic test of 250 pellets is about 50 minutes against 3 hours
in conventional machines.

The microcomputers screen performs the users interface during test setup, shows the
test status, prints out the report and graphics at the end of test and provides interface for
manual operation and diagnosis program execution for failure detection. It is connected
to the microcontroller, which coordinates all operations and data acquisition, through the
RS232C interface.
To perform a crushing test, first a sample is loaded in the Spiral Vibratory Pellet Feeder
and the machine started. At the beginning, the Microcomputer asks the operator for the
number of pellets to be tested and commands the Microcontroller Board to test each
pellet, until the total number of pellets chosen is tested.
Under Microcomputer s command, the Microcontroller Board: (a) commands the
vibratory feeder to randomly supply one by one pellet to the Pellet Manipulator System
which positions the pellet in the Hydraulic Press and, after the pellet is broken, removes
the broken parts to a waste basket inside of the machine; (b) commands the Hydraulic
Press which applies compression load on each pellet at a constant previously adjusted
speed; (c) acquires the crushing load trough the Strain Gauge Load Cell and the analogto-digital interface; (d) acquires the pellets diameter trough the Pellets Diameter
Measuring System and the analog-to-digital interface; and (e) communicates the pellets
crushing load and diameter to the Microcomputer via RS232C interface. If previously
chosen, the Microcontroller Board also communicates the crushing profile to the
Microcomputer. The test can be interrupted any time between the start of the test and its
end, and a report which the pellets tested data is issued.
