Activity 1
ICE Breaker
Objective:
To allow participants to interact with each other and
know each other.

Procedure:
1. Ask participants to meet as many people as possible and share
experiences about person who was their mentor at some point of
time in their professional career as well as the qualities that
impressed them.

2. After 5-7 minutes, participants to get together and introduce each


other as well as mention one quality of an outstanding mentor.

3. Resource persons to allow all participants to introduce each other


and then finally to focus on the slide showcasing qualities of a
mentor.

Activity: 2:
Concept of Monitoring and Mentoring and roles
of a Mentor (Monitor & Mentor)
Time :

45 minutes

Objectives :
To familiarise the participants with the concept and need for
Monitoring and Mentoring.
To familiarize them with the process involved in Monitoring and
Mentoring.
To help them identify areas to be covered while Monitoring and
Mentoring.
To help them recognise the qualities and roles of a Monitor and
Mentor.

Preparation:

Handouts 2A, 2B, 2C

Procedure:
Divided the class into four groups
Assign one topic to each group
Topics for Group Discussion:
Group 1: Qualities of a Monitor and Mentor
Group 2: Roles of a Monitor and Mentor
Group 3: Process of Monitoring and Mentoring
Group 4: Areas to be covered while Monitoring & Mentoring
Group Work:
Each group is expected to discuss the topics assigned to each Group.
Each Group will have ten minutes to complete the task.
After that each of the Groups will be expected to share the discussion outcomes
with the rest of the groups. Each of the Groups will be given five minutes to share
these outcomes.

Activity 3:
Familiarisation with Tools for Monitoring &
Mentoring
Time: 60 Minutes
Objective - To make participants understand the use and application of
Monitoring & Mentoring tools.
Preparation - Handout of all M&M tools
Handout 3A M&M checklist
Handout 3B Teacher Interaction form
Handout 3C Classroom observation Scale
Handout 3D Mentoring form
Handout 3E Monitoring & Mentoring Report
Procedure - The participants will be divided into six groups.
They will be given slips with the titles of handouts written on them
The group will analyse the handout and prepare a presentation on it.
They can apply methods like role play, poster presentation, quiz,
P.M.I. activity etc.
Each group will get 5-7 min to present their M&M tools.
2 minis can be allocated after presentation for open house.
Task Directive
Read through the M&M tools handout assigned to your group. Discuss the
handout in the group. You have 5-7 minutes to do this. At the end of the given
time you will be asked to present the main points of the handout, its
application. You will have to keep it very brief without missing on any of the key
points as you have in total 10 minutes.

Activity 4:
Process of Monitoring and Mentoring
Time: 60 Minutes
Materials: handout 4 A Process, Handout 4 B
Objectives:
1. To help the participants gain an insight into the process of monitoring and
mentoring.
2. To enable the participants to understand the role of a monitor and mentor.
3. To help the participants arrive at a set of guidelines for carrying out the
process of monitoring and mentoring.
Procedure:
1. They will be divided into three groups.
2. The groups will be assigned the following topics:
Topics:
Group 1: Planning for monitoring and mentoring visits to schools.
Group 2: Carrying out observations in schools using M&M Tools.
Group 3: Giving feedback to schools and reporting to CBSE.
3. The groups will discuss the topics and prepare a set of guidelines for the
work allocated.
4. 5 Minutes could be allocated for open house.
Task Directive: Read through the Handout 4A on the process of M&M.
Discuss the topic allotted in your group and evolve specific
guidelines for the stage allotted to your group. These
guidelines would be used by the Monitor and Mentor. They
may be read out in points in the Open House.

5. The RP to finally give out CBSE guidelines (Handout 4B) for the
groups to read, followed by an open house/ plenary in case of any
doubts or concern.
