Results of Surveys 2010

1. Questionnaire Survey on undergrads in FDS conducted by UDDE

Results:
1. Is the level of IT knowledge of the students generally:
Good / reasonable / unsatisfactory / poor?

2. As a student do you think you need to improve your knowledge of IT?


-Majority say YES

3. Has the faculty been helpful for you to improve your IT? If so how?
-Majority say CAL Room Facility

4. What aspects of the faculty have been unhelpful for you to improve your IT?
-Majority say Limited Resources such as computers, infrastructure

5. What do you think the faculty can do to help you improve your IT?
-Majority say need for an ICT course

A website was created containing two questions and following four groups were informed
to vote online. Target groups were prospective employers of new graduates.
1. General Practice ( employ new graduates / do not employ new graduates)
2. Health Administrator/ Hospital Director
3. Hospital Dental Officer/ Specialist
4. University Academic
Questions Used:
1. In your opinion what is the level of the ICT proficiency shown by a newly passed out
dental graduate at present?
2. Do you think that the Faculty should introduce a course in ICT in the BDS curriculum?
The survey was recorded using the free web based Poll http://surveypopups.com
The survey was conducted from 12th to 21st April 2010.

Each question in the website has received average of 54 hits during the survey period.
Total of 30 participants have voted as follows:
General practice- 7, Hospital Administrator- 3,
Hospital Dental Officers/Specialists-9 University Academics- 11
Results:
Q 1. Level of the ICT Proficiency shown by a newly passed out Dental Graduate at
present

Level of ICT proficiency is ranked as 0-25 by 7%, 25-50 by 37% and 50-75 by 30% of total
participants. Majority agree that the level of ICT proficiency of new graduates is below 50%.

Q 2. Faculty should introduce a course in ICT

About 69% of all participants strongly agree and 23% agree that the Faculty introduce a
course in ICT

These results indicate that prospective employers consider that the newly passed out graduates
have a low level of ICT proficiency and they agree that the faculty should introduce a course
in ICT for students.
