The World Of Salem Steel

Salem Steel Plant, a special steel unit of SAIL, is a world class producer of stainless steel in India. The plants
customer base covers over 37 countries.
Salem Steel has always been synonymous with quality. Its reputation for quality has been reinforced by being qualified
for ISO 9001:2000 Quality Assurance System and its concern for the environment is exemplified by its ISO 14001:2004
Environmental Management System.
Salem Stainless as the plants product is popularly known, has a wide range of applications, from needles to nuclear
reactors.
Hot rolling facility comprises of walking beam re-heating furnace, 4-Hi-reversing Roughing Mill, 4-Hi-Steckel Mill,
Laminar Cooling system to obtain desired Mechanical and Metallurgical Properties and a Down Coiler. The Steckel Mill
has hydraulic gauge setting and automatic gauge control with level II automation.
The Cold Rolling facilities at SSP consists of 20-high Sendzimir Mills, Annealing and Pickling Lines with Ruthner
Neutral Electrolytic Pickling process. Other facilities include a 2-high Skin pass Mill with elongation control and constant
hydraulic roll force system, a Shearing Line with precision roller levellers, electronic flying shear and vaccum piler,
precision Slitting Line. In addition special facilities like Stretcher Leveller, Requiring Shear, Sheet Grinding and
Polishing Line and utility blank line are housed in the cold rolling mill complex.
