LAHORE: The Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (Paapam) on Tuesday asked the Trade
Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to support the local
auto engineering companies for participating in global exhibitions.
The demand was raised at a meeting between TDAP Chief Executive SM Muneer and Paapam delegation led by its Senior Vice
Chairman (SVC) Mumshad Au, said a statement. The trade authority chief executive assured Paapam of his full support, and observed that the purpose of delegations and exhibitions was to promote bilateral trade, strengthen economic relations, and increase
interaction of the business communities.
The Paapam delegation leader said that giving due importance
to international exhibitions could accelerate depleting exports.
Criticising TDAP subsidy ratio, which has declined to 60:40
from 80:20, Paapam SVC said Pakistan has been a late entrant in
world engineering market and needed support to fulfill the immense potential for exports.
PAAPAM SVC said that buyers were generally ready to negotiate with suppliers participating in the same exhibition over a number of years. The complete export process of engineering items
takes 1-3 years, as it includes receipt of thquiry, designing, development and sampling and then issuance of purchase order. Therefore these kinds of limits do not suit the engineering sector, Au
added.

KARACHI. The Pakistan

has called for the Trade

of Pakistan's (TDAP) support for participation of
local auto engineering
companies in global exhibitions. The plan is aimed at
developing contacts with
international manufacturers, besides analysing the
possibility of joint ventures
with them.
The demand was raised at
a meeting with TDAP Chief
Executive SM Muneer with
the Paapam delegation led
by its senior vice chairman
Mumshad Au. The chief
executive of TDAP assured
Paapam of his full support
for participation in international fairs.
He said TDAP is being
reformed and will be
made a business-friendly
organisation.
Meanwhile, Ali said the

decline in production due to
government's inconsistent
policies, demanding that it
should be featured on TDA's

ness-friendly organization, facilitating the business coinmunity and trade bodies in their
efforts to promnotePakistan's

made a comprehensive plan
of participation in specialised
trade fairs in different countries for which transparencies
are being ensured.
S.M Muneer observed that
purpose of the delegations
and exhibitions is to promote
bilateral trade, strengthen economic relations and intensify
interaction of the business
community with the host
countries. PAAPAM delegation leader said the auto engineering sector of Pakistan was
facing a steep decline in production due to government's
inconsistent policies, demanding that it should be featured
on TDAP's export promotion
priorities.
"The TDAP should give
due importance to international

which could accelerate
the depleting exports.

Criticizing
TDAP
subsidy ratio, which has
declined to 60:40 from
80:20, PAAPAM SVC
said Pakistan has been
a late entrant in world
engineering market and
needed support to fulfill
the immense potential for
exports.
He asked TDAP to
enhance its allocations
of funds to ensure more
participation of auto engineerin sector in global
fairs in view of the sector's huge potential of
growth
"Repeated visits
and regular participation
in international mega
events are vital to attract
export orders but TDAP
has restricted its financial
support only to two fairs
in a year, limiting just
three times participation
in same category event,
which has become hurdle
for Pakistani companies to
improve exports," Mumshad said.
PAAPAM SVC said
that buyers are generally
ready to start negotiations
when they see a supplier
participating in the same
exhibition over a number
of years.
The complete export
process of engineering
items takes 1-3 years, as
it includes receipt of inquiry, designing, development and sampling and
then issuance of purchase
order.
Therefore these kinds
of limits do not suit the
engineering sector, he
added. Mr. Mumshad suggested the government to
allocate funds to sponsor
visiting delegations for
exploration of opportunities in untapped and new
markets.
