FOUNTAIN / WATER FEATURE
PART 1 GENERAL

RELATED DOCUMENTS
A.
The general requirements under Division 1 apply to work specified in this Section.
Examine all other Sections of the Specification for requirements which may affect work of this
Section.
Coordinate work with all other trades affecting or affected by activities of this Section. Co
operate with such other trades to assure the steady progress of all operations under the Contract.
1.03 SCOPE
A.
The work includes supply, installation and commissioning of water features as shown on the
tender drawings.
This section covers but is not limited to filters, pumps, vacuum, and all equipment, pipework
and fittings. All necessary electrical wiring from main control panel as shown on the contract
drawings.
Fabricate, assemble, test at works, deliver to site ready to operate install and commission all
fountain equipment to proper operating conditions in full conformity with drawings,
specifications, engineering data, instructions and recommendations by equipment manufacturer
unless exceptions are noted by the Architect/Engineer.
The fountain pump control panels will be supplied and installed by the Fountain Specialist. The
supply to the fountain pump panels will be coordinated with the Contractor. The Fountain
Specialist shall liaise with the Contractor making certain that the electrical supply is adequate
and compatible with the system. All power and control wiring from the fountain pump panels
shall be carried out by the fountain specialist. The Fountain Specialist shall liaise with the
Contractor in conjunction with all associated builders work. All electrical work shall be
undertaken in accordance with Division 16 (Electrical), including the I.E.E. 15th Edition of the
Regulations and the relevant drawings.

SPECIFICATIONS
All pipework filters, pumps, vacuum and all equipment and fittings for the complete mechanical
installation shall be supplied and installed by the Fountain Specialist. The water supply point for
the fountain will be as per approved shop drawings. The Fountain Specialist shall liaise with the
mechanical works and all work shall be undertaken in accordance with all relevant sections and
Standards within Division 15 Mechanical Specification.
Standards: The equipment furnished under these specifications shall conform to the appropriate
codes and standards which apply generally.

Box crate or otherwise completely enclose and protect all equipment during transportations, handling
and storage.

Painted Surfaces:
1. Protect against impact, abrasion, discoloration and other damage.

Repaint to satisfaction of Engineer all painted surfaces which are damaged prior to acceptance.
Protect all electrical equipment controls and insulation against moisture or water damage.
All components and equipment to be rated for continuous operation 24 hours per day, 7 days per week,
52 weeks per year.
Fountain equipment and components to be guaranteed against defective workmanship, materials and
design for a period of 5 years from the date of commissioning.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 GENERAL
A. The Contractor shall be responsible for design, supply and installation of water feature equipment
to location as shown on the drawings. Features shall include but not be limited to the following:

B. Jets: Jets shall be arranged to produce cascade effect unless otherwise shown on the drawings or
approved by the Architect/Engineer.
2.02 MATERIALS
A. Furnish all piping, pipe fittings, pipe hangers and similar plumbing required. Pipe and fittings in
the pump chamber shall be copper, P.V.C., steel or cast iron.
B. Conduit located within the pool and all stub-ups through the pool floor shall be Type K copper
tubing of full hard temper, approved for the purpose. Threadless couplings and connectors shall
not be used with conduit installed in wet locations or where buried in concrete. All threads shall
be MPT (tapered pipe threads) run up tight with good quality thread sealant. Running threads
will not be permitted.
C. Motors shall be of submersible type of approved manufacturer. Motors shall be of sufficient sizes,
continuous duty rated, not exceeding their full rated load when driven equipment is operating at
specified capacity, under the most severe conditions likely to be encountered.
D. Furnish to other trades for installation all inserts required in concrete for attachment of fountain
equipment.
E. All starting and control equipment required for proper fountain operation shall be provided. In
addition to specialized equipment specified, furnish and install all plumbing and electrical
materials and equipment required to joint the pieces of specialized equipment and to make the
fountain operational as designed.
F.
All the above items shall be covered by Division 15 (Mechanical) and Division 16 (Electrical)
Specifications.

2.03 RELATED WORK
A. Refer to other sections of specifications regarding requirements for surfaces finishes, tanking,
concrete works, water supply requirements, etc.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION
A. All work shall be executed in a firstclass and workmanlike manner by workmen skilled in the
craft to which they are assigned.
B. Adequate supervision by the Specialist supplier shall be provided to maintain high quality
workmanship. The work shall present a neat, mechanical appearance when completed.
C. Screw joints in piping shall be made tight with tongs and wrenches. Soldered joints for copper
tubing shall be made with noncorrosive paste flux and solder approved for application.
Solvent joints for PVC pipe shall be done in strict accordance with PVC pipe manufacturers
recommendations.
D. Long radius elbows shall be used in pump suction lines whenever a change in direction is required.
E. Pipe size reductions shall be made with reducing fittings. Bushings will not be permitted.
F. Furnish and install all conduit, fittings, boxes, wiring and other electrical equipment located within
the fountain pools.
G. Wiring shall be in conduit installed and sealed in accordance with I.E.E. Standards, except that
flexible cord approved for submersible application shall be used between underwater pool light
fixtures and underwater junction boxes. Conduit located in finished areas shall be concealed
unless otherwise indicated on the drawings or specified.
H. Connection to junction boxes in the pool shall be made tight with thread sealant. Junction boxes
shall be potted with paraffin or approved equivalent prior to filling the fountain pool but after
circuits have been checked.

B. All separately mounted circuit breaker, disconnect switches, starters and controls shall be identified
in an approved manner.
C. All wiring in the motor control centre and all feeders shall be identify ted in an approved manner.
3.03 NOISE AND VIBRATION
A. All piping equipment and systems shall be installed with the utmost precautions to prevent noise
and vibration transmission.
B. Equipment that would tend to cause noise or vibration shall be isolated with suitable vibration
isolators to reduce noise or vibration transmission to buildings, and/or other equipment. Piping
connected to this equipment shall also be isolated.
3.04 TESTS AND ADJUSTMENTS
A. Test all equipment, as necessary, to show that it complies with all requirements specified. Testing
shall be done in a manner approved by the Architect/Engineer.
B. All water piping systems shall be pressuretested and proved free of leaks and other defects prior
to backfilling.
C. All electrical circuits, feeders and equipment shall be tested and proved free of improper grounds,
open circuits or shorts, as required by the public authorities, to demonstrate compliance with
Codes and Laws.
D. Place the installation in operation and make all necessary tests, adjustments and corrections until it
is shown to be in proper operating condition.
3.05 CLEAN UP
A. All soiled abraded or discoloured surfaces of decorative fountain work shall be cleaned, polished
and left free from blemishes or defects.
B. All water pipe lines shall be chlorinated and flushed free of debris.
PART 4 MEASUREMENT
4.01 FOUWFAIN/WATER FEATURE
A. Equipment shall be taken as an item.
B. Marble, concrete works, tanking shall be measured as specified elsewhere. Alternatively, these
works may be given as an item.
PART 5 PAYMENT

SPECIFICATIONS
A. The work shall be measured and payment shall be made in accordance with the requirements stated
in Bill No. 1 Preliminaries and General Requirements.
