CHAPTER I

PREFACE
I.

Background
In everyday life we encounter a lot of equipment that uses a spring. For example
in vehicle suspension apparatus that uses a spring in order to dampen the shock when the
motor vehicle is driven past the uneven road surface, so that when we hit a hole, our
bodies still feel the swing in the vehicle. At spingbed (bed) there is a spring in it so when
we slept on top of us feel a little swing that makes us comfortable. And also when a baby
wants to sleep, then his mother would put it on a swing. The swing is connected to a
spring that causes the swing to swing gently so that the baby is asleep. Spring swinging
motion as exemplified above is called oscillation / vibration spring. And this spring
oscillation frequency can be observed from the spring. And if we look at the vehicle
suspension system and the spring bed, springs are used arranged in parallel, and also the
cradle spring used is a single spring or springs are arranged in parallel. Why spring
arrangement which is more commonly used is the parallel arrangement? How does the
composition of the spring against the oscillation/vibration springs are observed by the
frequency of the spring? It is the basis for the practitioner to conduct experiments related

to vibration spring.
Problem Formulated
1. What are the factors that influence the frequency of spring?
2. Is there any relationship between the set of spring and the frequency of spring
vibration?
Problem Limitation
1. Knowing the factors that influence oscillation/spring vibration
2. Knowing the relationship the set of spring with the frequency of spring vibration
Hypothesis
1. The vibration/oscillation of spring is influenced by mass and the constant of elasticity
2. The vibration/oscillation of spring also influence by the frequency of vibration and
period of vibration
3. The spring that set with single, series and parallel will have the different constant of

V.

spring. This caused by the frequency and the period that happened on that spring.
Objectives
1. To find the factors that influence the oscillation/spring vibration
2. To analyze the frequency and the period of the spring when oscillating/vibrating to
the oscillation/vibration of spring

3. To analyze the relationship between frequency and period in some different set of
VI.

spring when theyre oscillating/vibration with their constants of spring.

Benefits
This experiment is very useful for observer and readers especially physics
students. This experiment give us a lot of understanding about the factors that influence
the oscillation/vibration of spring and how the influence of some springs when oscillating
with their frequency and period and also about their constants.
