name is Anita Rachma absent number 2. Wel, in
Indonesia electricity supply to the whole nation held
by PLN. PLN use various kinds of power plant, one
of them is diesel power plant. In this occasion Im
gonna tell you a little more about it.

Diesel power plant using a diesel engine as a first

mover (prime mover). Diesel power is typically used
for small amount of electricity loads, especially for
remote area or a new rural electricity and to supply
the electricity needs of a plant.

Working principle.
Fuel in the fuel storage tank pumped into the daily
tank but previously filtered in fuel oil separator. Then
stored in daily tank. If the fuel oil (BBM) the fuel
from daily tank pumped into Atomizer (Nozzel).
Meanwhile, if the fuel is gas fuel (BBG) so from the
daily tank pumped into conversion kit(gas pressure
regulator) to set the pressure using clean air
compressor and then flew into the turbocharger. In
turbocharger pressure and air temperature increased
first in general at 500 psi with temperature reaching
600 C. the air pressure and high temperature flew
into the combustor.
In the diesel engine there is an ignition. At that time
the fuel is sprayed into the cylinder temperature and
high pressure exceed the fuel flash point so it will
turn on automatically which raise fuel explotion. The
explotion in the combustion make the piston move
then the crank shaft convert into mechanical energy.
Pressure of the gas of combustion fuel and air will
push the piston which is connected to the crank shaft
using the piston rod, so the piston can move back and
forth. This motion will convert into rotation motion
by the crank shaft. And vice versa with the crank
shaft, rotation motion will convert in to back and
forth motion on the piston on the compression stroke.
Diesel engine crank shaft is used to drive the
generator rotor shaft. Then generator convert this
mechanical energy into electrical energy, it cause
electrical move force ( emf)
Voltage from the generator increase used trafo step
up. Then it goes to the supply by the transmission
line.

What is the prime mover?

Prime mover is an equipment which has
function to generating mechanical energy
required to rotate the generator rotor
Is there any fuel except fuel oil and gas oil
that we can use?
We can use husk(rice husk) as an energy
source for diesel generator. In addition to
reduce air pollution we can use husk.
Otherwise, 6kg of husk can be converted
into energy equal to 1 litre of diesel. We can
save more cost.
Can you tell me the efficiency of diesel
power generation?
Smaller than 50%
What is the plus using diesel power plant?
-starting easy and fast in a short time
-able to operate all times as long as the fuel
still available
-high reliability
What is the disadvantage of diesel power
generation?
-expensive fuel cost and depent on world oil
prices
-use non-renewable fuel
Does the diesel power generation use
cooling water?
Yes it does, diesel power plant with capacity
above 25 MW were built in many coatal
area, due the cooling water requires large
amount of electricity so it use sea water as
the cooler. For unit small below 3 MW the
coolant use air by using radiator.
Why the fuel has to filtered first?
To block the dirt such a dust and other solid
particle go into input and output of the air
system.
What is the function of the turbocharger?
To utilize exhaust gas
What if we are not atomize in combustor?
If the diesel machine use more than 1
cylinder, it will cause exhaust gas hotter.
