Chapter 1

The Big Bang

Theory
Big Bang Theory: A theory which states that the universe began in an
enormous explosion.
Once upon a time, there was a princess who lives in a castle with her
mom and dad. They were living happily and quietly until one day an
evil witch came and she destroyed everthing. She killed all the people
that she saw and she cursed the princess to fell asleep for a hundred of
years. The only one that could wake her up is a kiss of true love and
THE END. Said the girl to the two kids beside her.

What thats it already? You call that a story? said the other kid.

Yes, thats all. Why? Do you have any complain about my story?
Huh? you little kid? Said the girl to the kid and after that they started
running around and chasing each other.

You cant get me! said the kid.

Who says that I cant get you? asked by the girl.

Shayne! Ashly! Come here! Dinners ready! they heard a shout

coming from the kitchen.

Coming! said by Shayne and Ashly.

This is my story. It is a story of how extraordinary my life is. In this

story youll know the ups and downs of my life and how do I deal with
the problems that I encounter. Youll also know who is the real me.
Youll know the things that I like and the things that I hate, my attitude,
my hobbies, and etc. You will know everything about me and------- said
Shayne.

SHAYNEEEEEEE!!!!! a shout that came from the kitchen

Ughhhhhhh! Coming! said Shayne and come out of the room

What are you doing? Are you a deaf? I have been calling you for so
many times already! said her Mom.

Im doing something. Said Shayne to her Mom.

Wash the dishes and buy this things for me. Said her Mom.

K. Dot. replied Shayne

So start now. We still have a lot of things to do. Mom said

Chapter 2

The Universe
Universe: The word used to describe everything that exists in space,
including the galaxies and stars, the Milky Way and the Solar System.

KRIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGG the sound of an alarm clock

echoed around the room.

Shayne! Shayne! SHAYNE! Wake up! Its already passed 6. Said

mom.

I slowly open my eyes and I hug my pillow.

Im coming. I said as I fix my hair.

I came down with my phone with me and I sat on the chair and started
eating my breakfast. I played a music and its title is Sing for you it is
a song of a Korean pop group called EXO.

Korean again? You cant even understand it. Said mom.

I just ignored her and continue eating my breakfast. My breakfast is

Sinigang na Baboy and fried rice.
I will now start telling you my story while eating my breakfast.

My name is Shayne Angel Marie C. Matubang. My mom is the one who

gave me my name. She said that she just heard it from her neighbour
back in her high school days. She found the name beautiful and she
promised that shell name her first daughter like that.

I remember when I am still in nursery, I used to cry because my name

is too long that it took me ages just write it in a paper. I always asked
her why did she gave me a long name. Back then, I am always envy
my classmates who have short names because they were always the
first one to finish the activity where you will write your full name again
and again.

I am born on January 15, 2000, 8:52 in the morning at the J.P Sioson
General Hospital and Colleges Inc. (I have a 5% discount because of
this hehehehe). My mom told me that I am born during the Feast of
Sto.Nino.

My life is just really simple. I am an only child and we are living in a 3storey apartment. We are living on the 3rd floor and weve been living
here since 2008.
I am 16 years old (15 actually but my birthdays near so I am 16) and I
am a grade 10 student at J.P Sioson General Hospital and Colleges Inc.
I am in 10- Compassion under the supervision of Mr. Gerald Antonio. I
like reading novels, especially science- fictions.

I grew up at Bohol. My mom and dad left me with my grandparents

there because they were both working and no one will take care of me.
I remember those times when I always run around our backyard. I also
remember those times when I always went to the seashore with my
grandma. There was a time when my Grandparents went out and live
me. I want to come with them but they wont let me so my grandma
gave me a basin that is full of water and some clothes. She told me to
wash the clothes and wait for them. I did what she said and I washed
the clothes until they arrive.

I am really happy with them but my parents decided to move here in

Manila because my mom found a work here. I am 4 at the time when
we move here.

I really love my Grandparents but of course there will be a time that

one of them will say good-bye. Last August 2014 my grandfather
suddenly died. That time I am preparing for the exams. I remember the
day when my grandpa died, I just came from school and that day was
really a good one but then when I got home I saw my father and he
dont look good. His face is red and his eyes were also red and then he
told me Shayne, patay na iyongLolo Inomo after I heard that I
immediately cried.

I would cut it for now because I dont want to talk about it. So going
back, after we move here I started studying. I finished elementary at
Bago Bantay Elementary School last 2011.

I started listening to kpop when I am in Grade 8. I just saw my cousin

watching music videos of Kpop idols and I just fell into it. The songs are
really catchy and cute.
I compare my life to the universe because theres still lot of things that
we dont discover yet and just like in our lives, we still dont know who
we really are and what we can do.

Chapter 3

The Sun and the

Moon
Sun: A medium-sized star that lies in the middle of our Solar System.
Moon: The ball of rock which orbits the Earth

Stop itsaid mom.

Hahahaha said dad.

Seriously, theyre just ticklingeach other. Its so gross.

Ewwwww, Stop it I told them.

Youre just jealous said dad.

Why should I? I said and they still continue tickling each other.

Yuck! What the! Get yourselves a room! I said and I go out

immediately my stomach cant take what they are doing. They are too
old to do that.

My mom is Lucita C. Matubang. She is 42 years old already. My father

is Eduardo Matubang, 41 years old. My mom is a year older than my
dad.

My mom grew up at Bohol and she moves here in Manila at the year
1992. She have 3 brothers and 2 sisters. My mom is the fourth in the
family. My dad grew up in Cavite. He have 5 brothers and 1 sister. He is
the eldest.

My mom and dad get married on December 1, 1999. They only have a
civil wedding.

Hey, Mom! I said.

What is it Sweetie? replied mom.

How did you met Dad? I asked her.

Are you sure that you really want to know it? Asked mom.

Yes! Of course! I said.

Okay Ill tell you. Mom said.

Your dad and I met on 1995 when I am still working as a Sales Clerk
at SM North Edsa. That time I live in a boarding house at Project 7 and
your father has a gay best friend who happened to live at the same
boarding house where I live. Your dad once visited that gay and he saw
me washing clothes and after that he introduced himself to me and we
became friends. He started visiting me after that. He would always
fetch me from work and he always visit me at the boarding house. I
once asked him what he saw to me that he didnt saw with the other
girls and do you know what he told me? said mom.

What? I asked.
Because you have a white skin complexion said mom.

Whatttttttttt!!!!!! He only likes you because of your skin? I said.

I dont know. So going back, your dad always waits for me at the gate
of the boarding house. I got so annoyed of him and asked him What
are we? and he answered me Cant you see that Im courting you.
And I told him What? I dont even know that you are courting me and
you called that courting? he told me Yes. And after that I didnt
answer him. We started going out officially. There was a time when me
and your father fight and I didnt show up for almost a week because of
that he look for me everywhere and he didnt know that I went home to
my family at Bohol. Well, I go back here immediately because I have
work. Theres also a time when your father hid inside the closet of my
roommate because he dont want to go home and that time our land
lady sets on a curfew. Said Mom.

Seriously? But did he gaveyou some flowers and chocolates? I

asked.

No. replied Mom.

What? I asked.

Then after a year we got married and I gave birth to you and we
move to Cebu because I got assigned into one of the malls there. Your
dad had to go back to Manila to work so thats why we ended up
leaving you to Bohol to live with my Mom and Dad. Said Mom.

Oh its time for dinner Mom said while looking at the wall clock.

What do we have for dinner? I asked.

Chapter 4

White Dwarf
White dwarf: A type of star that is much smaller and denser than the
Sun. It gives off a relatively dim, white light.

Shayne!! Your cousins are here. Said Mom.

Really? okay. I said.

Ashly! Nash! I said and my two little cousins run to me and hug me.

I am an only child and its really hard to live without them. A lot of
people always think that being an only child is happy. Well it is happy
in terms of getting the things that you want.

I am really annoyed when my classmates always tell me this

to tell them that it is not happy and lucky.
Being an only child is hard because you are always left alone at home
and you dont have someone to lean on to. You dont have someone to
protect you and stay with you. No ones there for you when you have a
problem. We cant always tell our problems to our parents.
I am really jealous when I see someone spending time with their
siblings. I always tell myself I wish I have a sister or a brother. I
always asked for one but my Mom told me that she doesnt want to
have another child because she is scared.
My mom nearly died when she gave birth to me and she got
traumatized. I once told her to just adopt a baby so that I can have a
baby sister or brother but she just laughed at me.

I also want to have a younger sister or brother because I am tired of

being an utusan already. My mom and dad always asked me to do
many things. Its not that I dont want to get orders from them but they
would tell me do something when I am doing an important things like

doing assignments or projects. When they tell me to buy these and

that, they will get angry if I buy a wrong one. I want to tell them then
why dont you just buy it yourself but I cant so I just quietly follow
their orders.

I also really hate it when they always criticize the things that I do. They
criticize everything, the way I move, speak, eat and even my
breathing. I hate it so much. They would also tell me the things that I
have to do, I mean they should not tell it to me because I already know
what I need to do. Also, they would always blame me when
somethings missing from their things. When I defend myself they
would get angry to me because they said that I am talking back like
whaattt. I am just defending myself because they are accusing me of
doing something that I didnt do.

There was a time when my Mom got angry to me and cursed at me

and she also told me that I am a useless daughter. I really got sad but I
didnt cried in front of her. There is also a time when my Dad got really
angry to me because he accused me of doing something (I forgot what
it is) and told me that I am an idiot. I didnt cried in front of them when
they told me those hurtful wordsinstead I just ignore it and told myself
that Its okay, be used to it, dont cry and be strong and later that
evening I cried a lot while they were sleeping.

My Mom used to compare me with my cousins who is kind, obedient,

responsible

and

respectful.

She

would

anything but deep inside I am already crying. I hurts me a lot when my

mom compares me with someone who is a lot better than me. It is

really hard. I am studying hard because I want my parents to be proud
of me. I want to hear them telling everyone that they are proud of me.

I would always think that maybe if I had a sister or brother they wont
do that to me. Maybe if I had a sister or a brother I would have
someone to lean on when my parents get angry to me and when they
call an idiot, stupid, brainless and useless daughter. When you are an
only child you cant have your parents whole attention because they
were always at work. Yes, its happy to be an only child because you
can get the things that you want but material things cant last forever,
it can be forgotten after sometime but memories cant be forgotten,
they last forever. I would always think that maybe if I had a sister or
brother they wont do that to me. It is really sad to be alone.
Even if they always do that to me I still love them. Maybe they did that
because they want me to realize the things that I did wrong and they
want me to improve. I dont want to lose my parents because they
complete my life.

Chapter 5

The Nine Planets

Planet: A relatively large object that revolves around a star, but which
is not itself a star. There are nine known planets in our Solar System.

In our life we need someone that we can lean on, we can trust and can
protect us. That someone is our friend. I have nine friends and they are
important for me. They know me better than anyone else do (except
my parents) and I know them better than anyone else do. I have 5 girl
best friends and 4 guy best friends. They are Yvonne, Ria, Sofia, Ethel,
Maureen, Norman, Luke, Thomas and Paul. Yvonne and I had known
each other for almost 9 years. Were classmates from Grade 1 until
Grade 7.

Back in elementary years Yvonne and I were not really close but we
know each other. We just became close when we were on Grade 7
because we are classmates. On the time that Yvonne decided to take
an entrance exam I came along with her and we took it together. When
the result came out I got failed (lol). I didnt took it seriously I just
guessed my answers there because my cousin told me that even if you
dont pass you can still study at their school.

When the school year starts, Yvonne and I became classmates and
became close with each other. Ive also started finding true friends.
There was once an activity in MAPEH where you will sing a song and
with that activity I met Maureen (Maui). She sang Love Story by
Taylor Swift. She doesnt know the title and I am the one who said it
and after that we started hanging out together. We learned that our
house is just a few blocks away from each other.

I already forgot how I met Sofia, Ria and Ethel but Sofia and I came
from the same school and I had seen her for many times already. The
first time that I saw her is during exams. That time all the girls that

who have the same surname (the first letter only) will share the same
room and Sofia and I were on the same room. We actually sat beside
each other (I dont know if she still remembers that). For Ria, all I
remember is that I am scared of her because of the way she looked to
everyone (Rias Killer Eye). For Ethel, weve became seatmates that
time and we always talked to each other (that is the only thing that I
remember.)

For the boys, well, Norman and I have been classmates when we were
on nursery and my parents and his parents were friends. The only thing
that I remember is that on the first day of classes when we were in
Grade 7 I would look to Norman and then look away. Its really
awkward. We just became close again when we became seatmates at
our Math time. I still remember when Norman told us that Ria is his
crush Yvonne, Maureen, Ethel, Sofia, and I immediately told Ms.Urdas
(our G7 Science teacher) that Normans crush is Ria.
For Paul, I became close with him when we are in Grade7 because
Yvonne, Sofia, Jamaica, Samuel, Paul and I were the only one that is
left at our room during break and lunch.

For Thomas and Luke, I dont know hehehe. They just came from
somewhere and we became.Luke and I were friends since Grade 8 and
during the enrolment for Grade10 we happened to enroll at the same
day. We met at the registrars office.

I compare them to the Nine Planets. Ethel is like the planet Mercury
because she is small and she is caring. Yvonne is like the planet Venus,
the goddess of beauty, because she is beautiful and she once made 2

guys fall for her. Ria is the planet Earth because she is a happy-golucky person and she likes to joke a lot and when you look at the planet
Earth from the space it seems to be the most colourful planet and also
Venus and Earth is known to have a nearly the same size that makes
them look like twins and Yvonne and Ria are like twins. They always
stick together. Luke is the planet Mars, because of its color it looks like
it is the planet with the highest temperature but its not. Just like Luke,
he may look so strong and tough but he is not, he is actually a softhearted person. Paul is like the planet Jupiter. Jupiter is known to be the
biggest planet and for me Paul has a big heart. He is really kind and
humble. Norman is the planet Saturn. Saturn is known for its rings and
for Norman, he could be lot better person than he is, if he would focus
on the things that he is good at. Just like Saturn it uses its rings to be
known. Maureen is Uranus. Uranus is green and she likes green so
much (I cant think of something that is the same between Uranus and
Maui) Neptune is like Thomas, because of its color, it looks like it is the
coldest planet. When Im around him I always feel like his is a cold
person. Sofia, she is Pluto. Pluto is the smallest planet yet the most
distant. Sofia likes to be alone because when she is alone she can
bring out all the pain that she has inside and also Pluto looks like the
most mysterious planet and Sofia is a mysterious and secretive person.
Lastly, Me, I am the orbit of the planets. I would always guide them and
look after them. I may not have a sibling but God gave me true friends.
I thought that we are all happy and that our friendship will last long but
I am wrong. They changed. ALL OF US change, some of them change
for the better and some of them change for the worst. They turned into
the persons that they said they will never be

Constellations
Constellation: A group of stars that can be seen as a pattern from
Earth. There are 88 constellations.

Shoot, Im gonna be late I said as I go down of our stairs.

I am a Junior High Student at J.P Sioson General Hospital and Colleges.

Ive been studying at this school for almost 4 years.

When I am in Grade 7 my adviser is Ms. Angelica C. Tapit. When Im in

Grade 8 my adviser is Mr. Gaba and in Grade 9 and 10 my adviser is
Mr. Gerald Antonio.

Being in high school is really happy. You may encounter a lot of

problems but you will still be able to stand up and continue. My high
school life is really happy because I met new people and I learned
many things. One of the things that I learned is that you should not
always be honest. Back in grade 8, I am the class president and I
always tell my adviser all the things that is happening inside our
classroom. Because of that my classmates hates me so much that they
are already saying things behind my back. That time I am always with
Anfernee and I know that my classmates dont like us because of that I
stay away from Anfernee and just follow what my classmates wants. I
did that for the sake of the two of us because if not we will continue

receiving lots of hate from our classmates. I did that even though our
friendship is wasted. After that, I just thought that Maybe I shouldnt
be honest all the time.

When I am in Grade 7, I once saw my classmate, Roland, bullying Zeus.

Yvonne and I are the one that saw that. We ended up becoming the
witnesses. I never wanted to be a witness again because you will write
a statement again and again.

Well, of course in high school theres a thing that cant be forgotten,

love. I saw how everyone develop their feelings. For example, Ria and
Norman, Norman waited for Ria for 3 years and last December 25,
2014, 12:05 in the morning, Norman and Ria officially started their
journey to forever.

One of the moments that I cant forget is when I joined Mr. and Ms.
Humanities. It is the first time for me to join a contest like this. At first I
really dont want to join but I cant do anything because I am too shy to
say no and to express my opinion because I ended up agreeing. Due to
the fact that its first time to join a contest like this I ended up
experiencing what you called mental block while answering into the
question and answer portion. I really feel bad because of that and I told
myself that I will never join a contest like this again. Fortunately, I won
the 2nd runner up title and I am happy about that.

I also got elected as a Student Council Officer. I am the treasurer. It is

really hard to be an officer especially when your adviser is also strict.
The SC adviser is Ms. Vivian Gabasan. She is really scary and strict.

When she told you to do something you should do it immediately

because she will not like it if you dont do it.

For me my high school life is like the constellations, the memories and
the experiences that Ive earned are the stars and I will connect it all to
form images/stars that will represent everything that happened in my
life particularly during my high school days.

Chapter 7

The Supergiant
Star
Supergiant stars: The brightest giant stars. They live for only a few
million years.

My dream is to be a chemical engineer someday. I wont tell you the

reason why because I dont want to..

I really love like science. I really like mixing up substances and making
experiments. I used to dream of becoming a nurse because my Aunt is
a nurse and I want to follow her steps.

I also used to dream of becoming a linguist because I really like

exploring different languages (especially Korean) but I told myself that
I should focus more on the work that can help other people. So I
decided to be a chemical engineer.

My mom wants me to become a pharmacists or an accountant but I

told her that math is my worst enemy so I cant be an accountant. My
mom just let choose the course that I want to take in college. She said
that I should choose a course that I am happy with.

compare my dreams with the Super giant star because my dream is
really big. It is as big as the supergiant star and I know that when my
dream comes true my parents would be happy and proud of me and I
can also give them a better life. All I need to do is work hard and study
hard.

Umbra
Umbra: An area of dark shadow caused by the eclipse of one object
by another.

The Black Hole

Black hole: An invisible region in space that has an enormous pull of
gravity. Caused by a collapsed super giant star.

In our life, there are many things that can happen to us. We can meet
different persons and we can reach our dreams. There still many things
that can happen in our life and as long as we live, our story still
continues.
