The Evolution of Job Interview

In the beginning . . .

Survival was the main goal, so there was no job search. Jobs revolved around food,
so men hunted while women gathered food.
In ancient Egypt, Rome and Greece, craftsman trained apprentices to carry on their
work.

1700-1800

Professions were passes on from generation to generation.

Apprenticeships were less like internships and more of a binding contract of
servitude.
Job Opening was created when tradesmen didnt have children. They passed on
their professions to apprentices.
Benjamin Franklin served as an indentured apprentice in printing to his older brother.

1800s

The Industrial Revolution created many low-skilled jobs in factories, across

American cities.
Employment was dependent on performance, with unskilled workers easily replaced.

First U.S. railroad is completed and continues to boom throughout the country.

1908

Ford Motor Company introduces the Model T.

1917

Woodworths Personal Data Sheets, the first objective personality test, is created to
evaluate soldiers in World War I.
The test is imitated in other industries to screen out employees who wont adjust well
to the workplace. The focus on adjustment leads to the importance of judging
candidates on cultural fir.

1920

With more college-educated individuals entering the workforce, employers needed a

way to evaluate potential hires.

1921

In 1921, Thomas Alva Edison created a written test for evaluate knowledge of Job
candidates knowledge. At that time Job Interview was born. It was published in New
York Times. After some time new Technology arrived and its broken out traditional
face-to-face model.

1876

Alexander Graham Bell invents first telephone. After that people using telephoning
interview.

1969

Internet is born but it's not for public. In 1991 World Wide Web, the Internet we
know today is created. Candidate assessment tests begin to move from an in-person
interview strategy to an online Screening tool.

Motorola releases the first commercial mobile phone.

Internet and video technology evolves and the first public video conference between
the North America and Africa take place.

After 1995 Social Media come in market and it is very easier to connect job seekers
and companies.

In 2003 Social professional Network LinkedIn was launched to creating a place for
job seekers and employers to connect.
In 2005 YouTube was born, making it easy for anyone to create and upload videos.
In 2006 BlackBerry releases its first consumer-friendly smartphone which was so
popular and its older name was Crack Berry in 2006.
In 2006 Social Media Sites grew in popularity with the launch of Facebook, followed
by Twitter.
