Dear Dr. Pippin,

I'm reporting a story regarding your organization's relationship with Dr. Henry J. Heimlich - a
member of PCRM's medical advisory board since approximately 1986 - and the issues raised in
this April 8, 2010 LA Weekly article:

In both its mission statement and its IRS filings, the Washington, D.C.–based
Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) says it is "strongly
opposed to unethical human research." But the group is throwing a private
Hollywood Art of Compassion bash Sunday night to hand out a major award
named after Dr. Henry Heimlich, who has been condemned by mainstream
medical organizations around the world for his 20-year program of trying to cure
cancer and AIDS by injecting people with malaria-infected blood.

According to your organization's website, you have expertise in the field of human subjects
research and "served as an invited speaker and panelist for the NIH National Human Subjects
Protection Workshop." Therefore, I'd appreciate your answers to some quick questions.

According to the following articles, the Heimlich "malariotherapy" experiments have been
condemned by the World Health Organization, the US Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, the US Food and Drug Administration, NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci, Dr. Peter
Lurie of Public Citizen, and others.

According to this Radar Magazine article, in 2005 the Heimlich Institute employed a Bay Area car
rental agent to supervise "malariotherapy" experiments on sex workers in Ethiopia.

In a March 5, 2008 video interview, my colleague Justin Jeffre asked Dr. Heimlich about the
status of his "malariotherapy" experiments. Dr. Heimlich replied, "We just had an extensive
meeting. And it’s starting in a new country…we’re using it":

Here are my questions.

1) When did you first become aware of the Heimlich "malariotherapy" experiments?

2) Do you see any contradiction regarding PCRM's mission statement claim of being
"strongly opposed to unethical human research" and your organization's relationship with Dr.
Heimlich?

3) Does your organization have any interest in investigating Dr. Heimlich's most recent
"malariotherapy" experiments such as determining in which country he is planning to conduct
them?

Thanks or your consideration and I look forward to receiving your answers by Monday May 3. If
you anticipate needing more time, please advise.
