If the TMR detects that the information from one of those monitors is no longer
than equivalent (within the configured percent) to the remaining two, It will flag
the monitor as being in error and place an event in the System Event List.

Note: Dozen of possible event conditions within a rack can drive NOT OK relay.
For this reason, it is not intended for use as part of a machinery auto-shutdown
circuit and should be used for general annunciation purposes only

HARDWARE DESCRIPTION

1.2.1 3500 Monitoring System

The backbone of the Machine Managements System is the 3500 monitoring
system. The 3500 is a programmable continuous on-line monitoring system that
provides monitoring and protection of critical machinery. The Monitoring System
consists of a rack chassis, power supplies, interface module, and various
combinations of communication modules, monitoring modules, relay modules,
and configuration software. All hardware components are hot swappable and are
capable of operation between 0 deg C to 65 deg C. The following is a brief
description of each module provided.

1.2.2 3500/15 Dual Power Supply

The 3500 Power Supplies are half-height modules and must be installed in the
specially designed slots on the left side of the rack. The 3500 rack contains two
power supplies (any combination of ac and/or dc) and either supply can power a
full rack. The second supply acts as a backup for the primary supply. The supply
in the lower slot acts as the primary supply and the supply in the upper slot acts
as the backup supply. Removing or inserting either power supply module will not
disrupt operation of the rack as long as a second power supply is installed. The
3500 Power Supplies accept a wide range of input voltages and converts them to
voltages acceptable for use by other 3500 modules.

1.2.3 3500/22 Transient Data Interface (TDI) Rack Interface Module

The 3500 TDI is the interface between the 3500 monitoring system and System
1 machinery management software.
The TDI is our current standard
communications processor, providing full transient, steady-state, or static-only

data acquisition. It provides direct connectivity to our System 1 software. Its

innovative design consumes no additional rack space and replaces the need for
one (or more) external communications processors such as TDXnet. The TDI
operates in conjunction with the M series monitors to continuously collect
monitor data and transmit it through an Ethernet link to the System 1 Data
acquisition computer. It can support 10Base-T, 100Base-Tx (RJ45) or 100Base-Fx
(MTRJ) and is designed to work as a standard network device and should be
compatible with any Ethernet structure.

1.2.4 3500/25 Keyphasor Module

The 3500/25 Keyphasor Module is a half-height, 2-channel software configurable
module used to provide Keyphasor signals (single events per revolution) to the
monitor modules in a 3500 rack. Two (2) half-height 2-Channel Keyphasor
modules can be installed in the rack, for a total of 4 available Keyphasor
channels per rack. The module receives input signals from proximity probes or
magnetic pickups and converts the signals to digital Keyphasor signals that
indicate when the Keyphasor event (notch/projection) on the shaft coincides
with the Keyphasor transducer. The 3500 Machinery Protection System can
accept up to four Keyphasor signals. A Keyphasor signal is a once-per-turn pulse
from a rotating shaft used to provide a precise timing measurement that is
correlated with the Vibration transducer systems. This allows 3500 monitor
modules and external diagnostic equipment to measure shaft rotative speed
and vector parameters such as 1X, 2X and nX vibration amplitude and phase.

1.2.5 3500/32 4 Channel and 3500/33 16 Relay Module

This module provides (4 or 16) relays that can be configured to actuate based
on user-configurable alarms and voting logic within the 3500 rack.
Multiple
relay modules can be installed in the 3500 rack as needed to meet annunciation
and machine protection requirements. The Relay Module is a full-height module.
Any number of Relay Modules can be placed in any of the slots to the right of
the Transient Data Interface Module (TDI). Each output of the 4 or 16 Channel
Relay Module can be independently programmed to perform needed voting
logic. Each relay utilized on the Relay Module includes "Alarm Drive Logic". The
Alarm Drive Logic is programmed using AND and OR logic (Boolean), and can
utilize alarming inputs (alerts and dangers) from any monitor channel or any
combination of monitor channels in the rack. This Alarm Drive Logic is
programmed using the 3500 Rack Configuration Software to meet the specific
needs of the application.

clearly labeled field-wiring descriptors. Vibration monitors have four channel

input capability and are software configurable

1.2.7 3500/42 Proximitor Seismic Monitor

The Vibration Monitor is a configurable 4-channel monitor module providing all
the functions of the 3500/40 with the addition of velocity, acceleration, and dual
probe (velocity and proximity) input types and associated signal conditioning
such as filtering and integration. The monitor can also provide differential signal
conditioning to subtract casing signals from shaft-relative signals, providing
shaft absolute measurements as used on some large gas and steam turbines.
All vibration modules have each channel buffered transducer signal available on
the front of the monitor through BNC connectors. All input/output modules have
clearly labeled field-wiring descriptors. Vibration monitors have four channel
input capability and are software configurable. This monitor is also equipped
with 4-20 ma outputs.

1.2.8 3500/50 Tachometer Monitor

The 3500/50 Tachometer Module is a 2-channel module that accepts input from
proximity probes or magnetic pickups (except as noted) to determine shaft
rotative speed, rotor acceleration, or rotor direction, compares these
measurements against user-programmable alarm setpoints, and generates
alarms when these setpoints are violated. The 3500/50 Tachometer Module is
programmed using the 3500 Rack Configuration Software and can be configured
with four different options:
Speed Monitoring, Setpoint Alarming, and Speed Band Alarming.
Speed Monitoring, Setpoint Alarming, and Zero Speed Notification.
Speed Monitoring, Setpoint Alarming, and Rotor Acceleration Alarming.
Speed Monitoring, Setpoint Alarming, and Reverse Rotation Notification

1.2.9 3500/60 and 3500/61 Temperature Monitors 6 Channels

The 3500/60 and 61 modules provide six channels of temperature monitoring and
accept both Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) and Thermocouple (TC)
temperature inputs. These inputs are conditioned and compared against userprogrammable alarm setpoints. The 3500/60 and 3500/61 provide identical
functionality with the exception of recorder outputs: the 3500/61 provides recorder
outputs for each of its six channels while the 3500/60 does not.

1.2.10

3500/65 16 Channel Temperature Monitor

The 3500/65 monitor provides sixteen channels of temperature monitoring and

accepts both Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) and Isolated Tip Thermocouple
(TC) temperature inputs. The monitor conditions these inputs and compares them
against user-programmable alarm setpoints.
The monitor is programmed using the 3500 Rack Configuration Software. The
software can configure the 16 Channel Temperature Monitor to accept Isolated Tip
Thermocouples, 3 Wire RTD, 4 Wire RTD, or a mixture of TC and RTD inputs.

1.2.11

3500/92 Ethernet Communication Module

This module provides digital communication capabilities with a variety of process

control systems and plant computers such as Distributed Control Systems (DCSs),
Programmable Logic Controller (PLCs), and others using an Ethernet connection.
Further, these other systems are able to access rack setpoints, alarm event lists,
system event lists, and be able to set trip multiply, rack reset, and alarm inhibiting
functions. All available monitoring parameters are available over the Ethernet link.
In additional to reading rack parameters, the Ethernet port can also be used as an
interface to 3500 Configuration software.
