Analyst™

Overview
Analysis of electromagnetic (EM) fields in complex high-frequency and/or
high-speed structures such as IC packages, on-chip passives, antennas,
waveguides, particle accelerators, complete monolithic microwave integrated
circuits (MMICs), densely-populated RF circuit boards (PCB), and multifunction
modules, frequently requires large amounts of memory and processing power
that can overburden even the most capable of today’s “high-end” workstations.
Many of these problems can be solved, but with limited accuracy for want of
greater system resources.

AWR’s Analyst™ software addresses this deficiency by employing scalable

decomposition algorithms to optimize cluster computing resources, resulting

The Power of analyst

Analyst is powerful, proprietary, parallelized 3D FEM EM simulation and
analysis software that has joined AWR’s comprehensive suite of EDA
tools through acquistion. Its unique solver technologies are the result
of more than a decade of development in collaboration with the U.S.
Department of Defense and U. S. Department of Energy, and has been
employed to analyze extremely complex RF and microwave structures at
nearly all U.S. national labs and accelerators.

Harnessing the power of available CPUs With spectral

decomposition, the entire structure (and its many unknowns) is
sent to multiple computers, each tackling the problem at a specific
frequency or range of frequencies. This methodology significantly
reduces computation time without increasing the accuracy of the
solution because each computer must still process the entire
structure.

Unique among commercial EM FEM, Analyst improves accuracy

and result precision through a second innovative technology,
domain decomposition. As the name implies, domain decomposition
decomposes a structure into multiple pieces (and thus fewer
unknowns), and enabling smaller problems to be analyzed on multiple
computers.

By simultaneously employing both spectral and domain decomposi-

tion on any number of computer nodes, Analyst sets itself apart
from the competition. Analyst increases by orders of magntitude the
complexity of designs (tens of millions of unknowns are possible) that
can be solved with even modest computational resources, and while
also delivering exceptional accuracy. Even more impressive, Analyst
automatically tailors the structure for analysis using both techniques,
dynamically allocating processors and memory to optimally solve the
problem. Once processing is complete, the software “recomposes”
the structure to provide a single result.

Summary
Analyst’s powerful solver technologies redefine what it means to
solve “big” problems with 3D FEM EM tools. Finally there’s a realistic
way to analyze complex RF structures without overtaxing your
computer hardware or sacrificing accuracy.

Think Big. Think Analyst.

Analyst supports a wide range of

applications such as antennas,
connectors, and filters.
