Kadhis courts are pivotal for

justice, says Chief Justice

he Chief Justice has said the government has a duty to protect and
ensure that the Kadhis court remains in place to serve Muslims.
Reflecting on the history of the courts, Evans
Gicheru said that they were in existence long
before the colonial era and their presence in
the current judicial system was a result of a
deal reached after the colonial government
acquired the coastal strip from the sultanate
of Zanzibar on condition that it would allow
the courts to exist in the country at all the
times.
The agreement entered between the two
was subject to certain conditions including
that the British agree to respect the Islamic
judicial system practiced by the locals, he
said.
Speaking in Mombasa during the launch of
an Efficiency Training Programme for the
Kadhis drawn from around the country, the
CJ said after independence the government
committed to honour the agreement that
the courts will be part of the judicial system.
The government of Kenya and (the Sultanate of) Zanzibar entered into an agreement
where Zanzibar relinquished its sovereignty
over the coastal strip and in reciprocity Kenya guaranteed the existence of the Kadhis
courts at all times., he noted.
Gicheru who opened the training workshop
added that the courts were no longer a Kenyan issue as the Government also committed itself at the United Nations to honour this
agreement and protect their existence at all
times.
The Chief Justice, further said there was no
reason to abolish the courts as they played a
pivotal role in the application of justice add-

ing that there is a growing demand for its services as more people are getting aware about
their rights.
The number of Kadhis courts has continued to increase as demand for the services
increases. The Kenyan population at independence is different from that of today, the
people are now more enlightened and they know their rights, he said.
Gicheru also commended Jamia Mosque Committee for organizing the five- day workshop and urged other organizations in the country to emulate the same. The training has
been organized as part of Jamia Mosque Committees contribution to education and training of human resource to the people of Kenya. When I was requested by the organisers
to perform the opening ceremony, I was indeed excited because Kadhis play a vital role in
the administration of justice to this country, he said.

It is victory for Jamia as court dismisses

mechanics claim on Grogan plot

"Let the eviction process start. These were the comments from Nairobi lawyer
Ahmednassir Abdullahi soon after High Court Judge Justice George Dulu dismissed
an application to allow mechanics to continue carrying out business at the Grogan
plot.
Ahmednassir who represented Jamia Mosque Committee in the four-month legal
tussle applauded the ruling saying that it was a measure of justice and would safeguard private property rights. The Judge was right in every respect, they dont have
any legal rights on the land, he told The Friday Bulletin.
In his landmark ruling on Tuesday, Dulu said the mechanics failed to submit any supporting documents proving ownership of the five acre property. They did not provide
any title deed, nor did they have any ancestral or customary claims on the land or

Hijab-Catholic Church sowing seeds of hatred

Mutahi issued a circular to heads of public schools directing them
to allow girls to wear the hijab.
He maintained that this was their constitutional right saying that the
law did not allow children to be discriminated against because of
their religious beliefs. "I wish to remind you that no child should
be denied the right to education on the basis of religion, a right
enshrined in the Constitution, he said in response to reports that
some schools were denying Muslim girls to wear the Hijab.
Last week, however, the Catholic Church released a statement opposing the directive from the ministry and maintained that it will not
allow the dress to be worn in schools under its patronage.
The acting chairman of the Kenya Episcopal Conference Bishop
Philip Anyolo went further to demand that the government rescind
its directive.
On August 13, Chairman of the Kenya Episcopal Conference John
Cardinal Njue wrote to all Catholic sponsored schools directing
them to ignore Prof. Mutahis directive as the issue of hijab needs
consultation."

The move by the Catholic Church not to allow Muslim girls to wear
the hijab in schools run by the religious body is a violation of the
constitution and an affront against freedom of worship.
Sheikh Mohammed Dor termed the decision by the Kenya Episcopal Conference provocative and said it will undermine peaceful
co-existence with Muslims.
In his Friday khutbah (sermon) at Mbaruk mosque in Mombasa,
the Sheikh who is a Nominated MP called on the government to urgently intervene to protect the rights of Muslim children in schools.
Hijab is a form of worship in Islam and it is the constitutional right of
Muslim children. Those campaigning against this dress are sowing
seeds of hatred and discord, he said.
Sheikh Dor said the Church had no right to bar the hijab in public
schools which falls under its sponsorship saying that it did not bear
the entire cost of running the institutions. The teachers in these
schools are paid by the tax payer and the Catholic Church should
not impose its sectarian conditions, he said.
Addressing the faithful, he called on parents not to take their children to schools that are wholly owned by the Church and are preventing Muslim girls from adorning the Islamic head gear.
He reiterated that Muslims would not bow to those bent on opposing the fundamental principles of Islam adding that government also
had an obligation to intervene in the matter. "We shall not be intimidated, the Catholic Church is pushing us to the wall," he said.
He suggested that the move to ban the hijab in Kenyan schools
could have emanated from foreign entities to plunge the country
into sectarian turmoil.
The Sheikh who also serves as the secretary general of Council of
Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) said it was an irony for the
Church to oppose the wearing of the dress yet it was an obligation
for Catholic nuns to cover their head.

Gov't told to open consulate in Jeddah

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has added its voice to calls for the
opening of a consulate in Jeddah to serve pilgrims and other Kenyans living in the area.
Faisal al Amoody the charge de affairs at the Saudi Arabian embassy in Nairobi said this will provide Kenyans with consular assitance
who are currently forced to seek the same services in the capital
Riyadh more than 400 kilometers away.
Establishing a consulate in Jeddah would be more convenient for
pilgrims as this would be near the Holy Kaaba, he said during a
meeting where he received a delegation of Kenya Hajj Mission and
agents at his office.

Chief Justice defends Kadhis' courts

Community Bank and 3Z Foundation. The High Court of Kenya and
office of the Chief Kadhi also partnered in the programme.
The Kadhis Court which falls under the High Court of Kenya is mandated to address Islamic Marriage, Divorce and inheritance issues
where the parties profess to the Islamic faith.
Muslims have been calling for the empowerment of the courts to
among other things address the myriads of issues involved in the
Muslim personal law.

The chairman of Jamia Mosque Committee Muhammad Osman

Warfa praised the role of the courts in the community and called
on the Judiciary to extend the services of the Kadhis courts to far
flung remote areas of the country to assist Muslims living in those
areas.
We appeal to you to also reach out to some other areas which are
far. Some one who is in the remote areas needs some assistance
in terms of his justice, he noted.
Sheikh Hammad Kassism, the Chief Kadhi also commended the
programme which he said had offered a forum where Kadhis could
exchange ideas on how to improve their services delivery to Muslims.
The last programme of this nature was held ten years ago. This is
a golden opportunity for the Kadhis to equip themselves with the
necessary skills as well as knowledge to do their work better. It is
also a chance to interact between them and share because each
one of them has different experiences depending on his area, he
said.
Speaking at the same forum, Nominated MP Sheikh Dor called on
the Kadhis to fully involve themselves in the ongoing constitution
review process to ensure that the interests of Muslims are well catered for like other Kenyans.
Other speakers who addressed the forum included Nathif Jama,
CEO of First Community Bank, Mombasa Resident Magistrate
Justice Muhammad Ibrahim and the Chief Magistrate Rosemary
Mutoko among others.
The 17 Kadhis from the country have been attending the five day
workshop in Mombasa which ends today, to enhance the efficiency
of the Kadhis court. The Kadhis were trained in public relations and
communications skills, knowledge of Islamic Laws, Laws of Evidence and Procedures for registrations of Islamic marriages and
Divorce through presentation conducted by Islamic scholars and
lawyers.
The programme was organised by Jamia Mosque Committee, First

even had any arrangement with the owners to conduct business on

the land, he said in his 17-page ruling.
He dismissed arguments that the land was offered by a local MP
way back in 1985. The letter presented was a request from a local
Kanu chairman G.K Kilimo of Central ward to Central Police Station
for a temporary alternative place for the mechanics, he said.
The Judge made it clear that mere operating from the area for several years did not amount to an automatic license to acquire the
plot. I therefore find it impossible to grant the petitioners temporary
orders to continue working in the area, he said in his parting shot.
Former Kabete MP Paul Muite who represented the illegal settlers
sat pensively during the proceedings. He left without making clear
his next move.
The Grogan plot lying next to the citys Globe roundabout was the
scene of a protracted battle as the mechanics resisted efforts by
the police to have them evicted from the plot where Jamia Mosque
Committee intends to put up a modern mosque to help ease the
congestions at the mosque in the Central Business District.
Politicians who included evangelical Bishop and Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru and Muite joined the mechanics to defend their quest to
illegally occupy the plot and frustrate efforts to construct the mosque
and other Muslim-owned development projects.

Hajj - The Journey of Hearts

Saturday Lecture

pants of that stand (on Arafah) a moment

His mercy]
Abu Hurayrah narrates: I heard the Prophet
say, Whoever performs Hajj and does not
commit any Rafath (obscenity) or Fusooq
(transgression), he returns (free from sin) as
the day his mother bore him Al-Bukhari
Now - How To Get That Heart In Shape For
Hajj?
Firstly: Attend lectures and workshops
dealing with Hajj. Hajj is one of the pillars
that Islam is built on. When someone intends to perform this rite it is a must upon
them that they learn it well. Rasulullah
salallahu alayhi wa sallam said, Seeking
knowledge is obligatory on every Muslim.
Imam Al-Bukhari writes in his Saheeh,
Chapter: knowledge comes before statements and actions. He then quoted the
verse of Allah: So Know, that there is no
deity except Allah and ask forgiveness for
your sin. [Surah Muhammad (47)19]
Secondly: Establish Salah and Perform Qiyaam ul-Layl
When Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam was preparing his heart for the mission of conveying this deen, Allah ordered
him to prepare using Qiyam ul-Layl. Allah
says: O you who wraps himself. Arise (to
pray) the night, except for a little [Surah
Muzzammil (73)1-2)
A student once slept over at Imam Ahmads
house, rahimahullah. Imam Ahmad had left
a vessel of water for him, and upon arriving
at Fajr time, found the vessel still full of water. He was shocked and remarked, How
can a person be a Talib Al-Ilm (student of
Islam) and not stand for Qiyam ul-Layl!
Some said to Ibn Mas`ood, may Allah be
pleased with him, "We are unable to wake
up to perform Qiyam ul-Layl." He told them,
"You are distancing yourselves from it by
your sins."
Thirdly: Repentance to Allah and Dua
It was during the days of Tashreeq when
Jibreel alayhis salam came to Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wa sallam with the
words of Allah: When the victory of Allah
has come and the conquest. And you see
the people entering into the religion of Allah
in multitudes. Then exalt Him with praise of
your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance.
Surah An-Nasr
This was the culmination of 23 years of
Dawah, Jihad, and work; here now was the
farewell pilgrimage. What did it end with?
[Then exalt Him with praise of your Lord
(Tasbeeh) and ask forgiveness of Him]

know it or care to just remain heedless. Allah turned their attention to the journey to
the Hereafter, to Paradise or Hell.[And take
sustenance (with you) for the journey; verily the best sustenance is Taqwa (piety and
righteousness). (Al Baqarah 2:197)
The Provider
There is debate over whether someone who
performs Hajj should be called a Hajji. It is
not something found in the Sunnah; rather
it has an interesting background in our cultural history. In antique days, when someone decided to perform the journey for Hajj,
it was synonymous with bidding farewell to
life on earth. This was due to the treacherous obstacles of traveling in the desert - trials such as sickness, starvation, and the
struggles of the separate situations. An entire village might gather to bid those people
farewell. When someone would go through
such a remarkable journey and return alive,
they would dedicate their lives to the worship and obedience of Allah. Gone was the
cheating, or the lying, or the missed Salah.
He was now a Hajji. Today, with the Jumbo
jets and ocean liners and Mercedes busses,
the facilitation of performing Hajj has taken
away the luster of the title Hajji.
Some might complain that there are no
queen-size mattress beds in Mina, or that
the air conditioning motor is too loud. But
dear brothers and sisters, who is it that provided us with all the blessing that we are living in? It is the same Allah that has tested
us here on the plains of Arafah. The slave
of Allah can only truly understand the favor
of Allah upon him when it is taken away.
There is no blame upon you for seeking
bounty from your Lord (during Hajj). But
when you depart from Arafat, remember Allah at AlMashar Al Haram. And remember
Him as He has guided you, for indeed you
were before that among those astray.
Indeed the greatest blessing that Allah has
favored us with is Islam, and it alone suffices as favor. Allah knows we are going to get
dusty during Hajj, Allah knows it. So dont be
surprised when that dust blows, instead turn
to Allah and hit back with patience and a
whisper of gratitude to Allah. Then let them
end their untidiness, fufill their vows, and
perform Tawaf around the ancient House.
(Surah Hajj 29)
Ibn Al-Qayyim wrote a Qasidah about this
journey of the hearts, here is only a glimpse
of some of the Arabic verses:
[He says,
My slaves have come to Me (for Hajj) out
of love for Me And I am merciful to them,
bounteous and loving Glad tidings O partici-

stomped and the mans neck was snapped.
Dead...Bathe his body with water and Sidr

nor touch him with Camphor ... for verily he
will be returned (to Allah) on the day of resurrection in the state of Talbiyah! (Labbayk
Allahumma labbayk) (Al-Bukhari and
Muslim)
Amr ibn Al-Aas narrates, When Islam entered my heart, I went to the Messenger of
Allah and said, Give me your hand so that I
may pledge allegiance to you. The Prophet
spread his hand, but I withdrew mine. He
said, What is wrong Amr? I said, I want
to make a condition. And what is that? he
said. I said, That Allah will forgive me. Then
the Messenger of Allah said, Did you not
know that Islam wipes out what came before it, and that Hijrah wipes out what came

The Ultimate Reward
Rasulullah salllahu alayhi wasallam - said,
And there is no reward for an accepted Hajj
except Jannah! What is the first verse
that you read in Surah Al-Hajj? It does not
speak of Arafah, nor does it pronounce
the pillars of Nahr day. It simply says ... O
Mankind! Fear your Lord, indeed the eruption of the (final) Hour is a horrific event. On
that day that you shall see it, every nursing
mother will be engrossed away from that
(child) she was nursing, and every pregnant
woman will abort her pregnancy, and you
will see the people (appearing) intoxicated,
while they are not intoxicated; rather it is the
punishment of Allah, severe.
Hajj is not a journey of the body such as one
may take to a vacation spot or tourist attraction. It is a journey of the soul and heart.
When one pays a careful eye to the verses
speaking of Hajj, they will find that verse after verse concludes with a commandment of
being conscious of Allahs presence, or a reminder of Allahs bounteous favor upon us,
or a link between Hajj and the final day.
The Destination
n the not-so-far-away days of old, whenever a journey was to be undertaken proper
provisions had to be prepared. The deserts
were long, hot, and harsh.
There were no petrol stations to fill up with
chips and refreshments, or rest stops to slurp
water from a fountain. In fact, there was not
a human in sight for miles upon miles of barren sand dunes. Losing the way meant losing your life. Thus, you had to have the provision with you before you made the journey.
Enough food, enough water, enough everything to carry you to your destination. From
here, in the verses dealing of Hajj, when
everyone shall have to make some sort of
journey to reach the Kabah, Allah tuned the
attention of His slaves to another journey, a
journey every soul is travelling, whether they

WOMEN ISSUES

Dhul Qaada 11 1430/October 30 2009

Western women on a journey of faith

It is a phenomenon that has made the headlines in The Times
newspaper of London and stirred public conversation from Helsinki to
Halifax to Hawaii. It is a bit baffling to most Westerners, but nonetheless a reality that they are coming face-to-face with: Western women,
with all their freedoms and of their right minds, are choosing to follow
the religion of Islam, and they are flocking to the religion at a much
faster rate than their Western male counterparts.
Every day in America and across Europe, female voices are, for the
first time, breathing the words known as "The Shahaadah," or the
Muslim's basic declaration of faith.
Although the exact ratio of women converts to men converts is unknown, a poll conducted in the U.S. in the late last decade suggested
that the number of American women coming to Islam outnumbers
that of American men by as much as 4 to 1. Strolling through some
Islamic Centers in North America and Europe gives one the impression that the gap could be even greater.
Whatever the exact statistics, it is no longer debatable; women in
the West, (many of them single) are becoming Muslims in unprecedented numbers.
The irony of the phenomenon
One of the largest erroneous stereotypes about Islam is that it is a religion which treats women unfairly and disrespectfully. Many who are
ignorant on the issue believe Islam teaches that women are worth
less than men, and that it strips them of their rights.
At this point, however, a thinking person must ask, "If it is so bad,
would not women turn and run from it; particularly those women who
are well-educated? Would not the vast majority of reverts be men?"
Obviously, women are finding in Islam something beautiful, something unique. There must be something there that not only attracts
them as human beings, but also as women.
The "why" factor
When women and men are asked why they accepted Islam, they
often give similar answers: they were attracted to the logic within
the religion, the emphasis on family and societal values or the fact
that the Quran and Hadeeth have been preserved accurately. But
many times, the women give an answer for reverting that men do
not, and the reason they give are: for the rights and status of women
in Islam.
Dina Wallis, a British revert from Roman Catholicism who frequently
writes on women's issues and has contributed in translating the Holy
Quran, pointed out that a Western woman coming to Islam has a bit
of a different journey than that of a Western man. "In many ways, a
woman who becomes a Muslim has more to gain than man," she
said. "Of course from the spiritual side, there is no difference - they
both discover Allahs true religion and gain their true selves spiritually.
But a woman coming to Islam, in addition to gaining the spiritual truth
has a double advantage because she is also re-gaining her true self
as a woman.
Women discover, in becoming Muslims, that they should have been
able to exercise their God-given rights: the rights to be respected, to
be able to stay home with their families, to be able to be valued for
more than a physical appearance as well as political and economical
rights. Also, a woman's role changes more drastically than a mans,
said Wallis.
As for men coming from the western culture to the Islamic culture,
their role is basically by the same in society: they are considered
the main `breadwinner,' the head of family, et cetera. But in Islam,
women can be women, and enjoy their soft, natural femininity, as well
as being fully provided for. They do this without losing their rights to
vote, work, be treated kindly, and get an education." she said.
Also, the worth of the woman in Islam is much more noticeable than
in the West. Women begin to dress modestly and feel liberated by the
ability to go out without showing off their bodies or making up their
faces. In Islam, they are valued simply for being a wonderfully special
thing: a woman.
Halimah Stevens was raised a Southern Baptist in Columbia, South
Carolina. She has been a Muslim for nearly two decades and is now
married with five children. But she can still recall the pressures she 4

underwent as a young, non-Muslim woman living in the West. The

most obvious of them was the attempt to get attention through physical means. "When I was growing up, I remember, `what can I wear
to get attention? How tight will this be?' That is how regular teenage
girls are. They want to be seen as impressive, get a boyfriend and
get someone to look at them," she said. "It was all about your appearance. When you become Muslim, you are taught to be modest. You
keep your dignity and your character becomes honorable, you begin
to like yourself again for who you are inside. You can look yourself
in the mirror with satisfaction and know that your being goes much
deeper than flesh and size."
She says her value as a Muslim woman is not even comparable to
that when she was a Christian woman living in the West. "It is just
like black and white. There is a big difference. I feel totally valued as
a Muslim woman. I am so loved and so respected for my mind and
my heart now. When I look back at my life before I embraced Islam, I
see how important my body and clothes were to everyone; including
me."
Twenty year-old Emilee Rauschenberger is known by her friends and
colleagues at New York University for her intelligence, her sense of
humor, and her headscarf. An American of German descent, she has
a ready answer for anyone who approaches her and asked her if she
changed her faith for a Muslim man.
"I reverted because I studied Islam and Christianity, and found Islam
to be the most amazing religion. Comparing the two, I found more validity in Islam, and so I knew I could be nothing else but a Muslim.
The 1960's and 70's brought about a sort-of revolution for women, in
which various organizations and ideals comprised what came to be
known as the "Women's Liberation Movement." Women were fed up
with being treated as second-class citizens. They were not receiving
equal pay in the workplace, nor equal education and job opportunities. Also, they felt tired of being seen just as "sex symbols", mothers
and being paraded around in beauty pageants.
Many of their complaints were valid, as seen from an Islamic viewpoint. They should have had equal pay for an equal job done, as well
as the right to education and to work. But other complaints suggested
they should have to spend time or effort on their children, certainly

Image Is Not Everything

Celebrity status; that awe-inspiring, much envied, ultimate goal of the 'average'
person in society. To be admired. To be noticed. To be glorified. Is this a disease
or a result of natural ambition? Is the celebrity some sort of superhuman figure,
or has the person behind the status lost that bit of humanity?
In this day and age the celebrity has power because of their apparent financial
wealth and fame. Thus in this materialistic world it comes at no surprise that
celebrities are idolised due to the emphasis in society on money and one's reputation among their peers. Movie stars, sports people, music idols are all grossly
overpaid as we know. In a world of marketing and image theirs is the prosperity
easily gained.
Then we have the source of their fame: the media. That widely despised yet
hugely popular source of information documenting the world's trials and tribulations. They are determined to undermine people one day and exaggerate their
praise the next. The question I ask myself regularly is: if the media was not there
at the film premiere, at the all-important sports event, or in the lives of musicians
would they be as popular? More importantly, would we care about the lives of
others we deem as our equals if they are given as much coverage as us all?
So the famous person becomes world renown and they have their moment in
the spotlight. After that, they are forgotten until they improvise with a new image
more "in with the times" or failing that using self degradation as a method of selfpromotion. Do we really want this as the example for living our lives?
We shape our own image to go along with the current fashion yet we don't get
any recognition. In fact we try to fit in with the crowd in an effort to be or look normal whilst we also aspire to have the fame and fortune as the well-documented
persons of the world. Now we are contradicting ourselves.
Behind all the glitz and the glamour one has to look through to the heart of
the well-known person's life. They are not allowed privacy, something everyone
needs to stay sane. Their quality of life is determined by everyone else but themselves, causing insecurity. They frequently go down the extreme party lifestyle,
usually resorting to drugs and many sordid activities usually well documented
by their long lost friend the media. Theirs is the life of insecurity, instability, and
most importantly discontent. Let's face it; we can all wear a smile when there's
a camera crying for our attention. We can all put a brave face on our lives when
we fear for the judgement others will come to on our lives. The life of a celebrity
is not as it seems, my friends.
Now let me move onto a positive solution. We have been rewarded with the
greatest example humanity has ever known, even acknowledged as the most
influential figure of the previous millennium by a western poll. The Prophet Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa sallam was the person for whom this world was
created. The perfect human, he needed no marketing for anybody to know of his
qualities. A man who was evidently far superior yet taught humility and sought
more to relate to humanity than seek reverence and elevation. If there was ever
an example for us to appreciate and follow, we must realise that we have been
given one already. His is the peaceful life of contentment, prayer, contemplation,
wisdom and above all, endless praise of Allah. We were given the word of Allah,
then the example for which to abide by. No matter how many times this simple
sentence is repeated we are still blind to it, proving the ignorance of us all.
The celebrity life is very a difficult goal to attain, yet to follow the example of the
Prophet is merely a matter of choice. I will leave you the readers to decide which
is the easiest and which is the most rewarding in this life and the Hereafter.

ISLAMIC CROSSWORD PUZZLE

Have you wondered?

Why did Allah create us?
Allah is the only One who can create anything.
He is Al-Khaliq The Creator and He is Al-Musawwir The Shaper. He created the Universe
and everything in it, and they all move by His
Laws. For instance, the planets all go around
the Sun, because Allah made them so they
follow clear rules. Living things grow, get old
and die, the seasons change, and the rain falls,
because He made them behave that way.
For everything that He creates, Allah gives a
purpose. Sometimes we can see the reason, and
sometimes we cant. He created human beings
and jinn to worship and obey Him (the Jinn are
a creation of Allah that we cant see).
Why do we worship Allah?
Allah doesnt need us to Worship Him, and He
does not get harmed if we disobey Him. Allah
created us to test us. If we worship Him, it
is for our own good. Allah is Al-Khabir - The
Knower of all things. He sees and hears everything. He is Al-Hakam The Judge and He is
Al-Muqsit The Just (Fair). He will judge us
all on the Day of Judgement. Those who obey
Him will go to Jannah - Paradise and those who
dont will go to Hell - Jahannum. To see Allah
is the most wonderful, best reward of those
who go to Paradise.
How do we know that Allah wants us to worship
Him? Allah is Al-Hadi the Guide. Allah sent
many, many Prophets to remind us to worship
Allah alone, to be grateful to Him, and to keep
away from worshipping idols. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was the last Prophet
of Allah, and Allah gave him (peace be upon
him) the Quran, to guide us on how to worship
Allah and to live in the best way.

Muslim Issues

The Truth about Ahmadiyyah (Qadiani) cult

Ahmadiyyah also known as Qadyaniyyah is an Indian-based
movement that was established under the patronage of the British
colonial powers in 1900 for the aim of driving Muslims away from
their religion and, most definitely, the religious duty of Jihad, which
they feared, might be used to stage rebellion against the British
occupation.
Modus Operandi
Their targets are mainly remote areas where Muslims have never
heard the name of Mirza Ghulam or Qadianism or Ahmadiyyah
Movement. Pretending to be Muslims and using their resources,
they offer financial incentives, setting up medical centres and other mosques and use them as avenues to misguide Muslims.
Dogmas and Ideology
Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was born in a Muslim family in the North
Indian village of Qadian in 1839. He received some religious education at home. He suffered from a variety of physical and mental
illnesses of various kind and had a habit of taking opium and tonic
wine. Under the influence of British Rulers of India he sold his faith
for petty worldly gains. He claimed to be the Promised Messiah,
Mahdi, Prophet and the Second Advent of Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him), who has come again in the from of
Mirza to propagate Islam. He claimed that he recieved wahyi (Revelation) and named his book Braheen e Ahmadiyyah as the book
of God. The British were facing difficulties in India because of the
spirit of Jihad in Muslims and at their instigation, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad wrote books and pamphlets in which he abrogated Jihad and
made loyalty to the British rulers an article of faith. Mirza Ghulam
formed the Ahmadiyyah Movement in 1889 and called his followers
Ahmadi Muslims.
The followers of this group believe that Allah, Glorified be He, performs some acts befitting the mortals, like fasting, praying, sleeping, and even committing mistakes. But Allah Almighty is Far Exalted above what they say!
A Qadyani believes that his lord is English as he speaks to him in
English. He also believes that Muhammad, peace and blessings
be upon him, is not the seal of Prophets and that Allah Almighty
sends new prophets according to time and need, and that Ghulam
Ahmad is the greatest prophet. The followers of this sect also believe that Angel Gabriel used to come to Ghulam Ahmad and convey revelations to him. In addition, they say that the only accepted
book is the book presented by Ghulam Ahmad, his words are the
only accepted words and that all prophets stand under his control.
Furthermore, they believe that their book, known as Al-Mubeen is
a heavenly-revealed one.
hey continue spreading their false ideas by saying that they
have a new religion totally different from all other religions and
that the companions of Ghulam Ahmad are like the Prophets Companions. Moreover, they say that Qadyan, their leaders place of
birth, is like, or even better than, Makkah and Madinah, so they
take it as their prayer direction and a center of pilgrimage. They call
for ignoring Jihad and showing complete obedience to the British
empire, because it represents the ruler to whom obedience is due.
To them, every Muslim is a Kafir (disbeliever) until he converts to
their belief, and that anyone who marries a non-Qadyani is considered an unbeliever. They also allow wine, opium, intoxicants and
drugs.
In 1914 the followers of Ghulam Ahmad were divided into two
groups. The overwhelming majority of his followers belong to the
first group known as Qadyanis and were headed by Bashiruddin
Mahmud, the second successor of Ghulam Ahmad. The second
group known as Lahori, and founded by Muhammad Ali Lahori,
is a minority among the followers of Ghulam Ahmad. The second
group have a less striking tone of their principles by claiming that
they do not believe in Ghulam Ahmad as a prophet in the real
sense of the term but as Mujaddid (a renovator). However, they
still believe him to be true in all other claims, which led Muslims to
regard them also as outside the pale of Islam.

Ahmadiyyah in the Eyes of Muslims

In the month of Rabi` Al-Awwal 1394 A.H. (April 1974 A.C.) a large
conference was held in the Muslim World League headquarters in
Makkah and was attended by many representatives of international
Islamic organizations. The communiqu issued by this conference
branded this group as Kafirs (unbelievers). It also recommended that
all Muslims should stand to face this group and never deal with its
members and not to bury them in Muslim cemeteries.
Moreover, Qadyaniyyah followers have good relations with Israel
that helped them issue a special magazine (that stands as their
mouthpiece) and many other pamphlets that are distributed all over
the world.
Un-Islamic beliefs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad
Mirza Ghulam Ahmad wrote 80 books during his life time, which provides an excellent insight into the mind of the man and how with
passage of time his faith evolved from Islam to Apostasy and Infidelity. 'Roohani Khazain' is the title for the collection of all the books by
Mirza Ghulam, printed by the Ahmadiyya Movement Headquarter in
London.
The following are some extracts from the books of Mirza Ghulam
Ahmad which provided the basis for Islamic Scholars to declare him
and his followers Kafir, Apostate and out of the fold of Islam:
Mirza Ghulam says (Extracts from Izala-e-Auham, Roohani Khazain, vol 3 pp.114-472):
The Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam did not understand the
meaning of Surah Al-Zilzal.
Other Prophets have also made mistakes and lied.
Prophet Muhammads Revelation also turned out to be wrong.
Mirza Ghulam claimed that :
He was the second advent of Holy Prophet Muhammad (Roohani
Khazain vol 16 pp.272)
Holy Prophet Muhammad has come again in this world as Mirza
Ghulam to propagate Islam. (Roohani Khazain vol.17 p.249)
He was Maseeh that is he has certain qualities which resembled
like Eisa ibn Maryam (Roohani Khazain vol 1 p. 593).
Prophet Eesa (Jesus) alayh sallam is dead and he will not come
again. (Rooahni Khazain vol.3 p.402)
Prophet Eesa was a habitual liar, had a habit of uttering obscenities, an alcoholic, gluttonous and a wicked person, neither a pious
man nor a seeker of truth, he was a proud man and a self-conceited
person who claimed divinity. (Roohani Khazain vol 9 p.387, vol.11
p.289).
Mirza boasted that:
"Quran is God's Book and the words of my mouth." (Advertisment
dated 15th March 1897, Roohani Khazain vol 22 p. 87)
Bait-ul-Dhikr (the house adjacent to Bait-ul-Fikr, the room where
Mirza Ghulam used to sit and write books) is like the Ka'aba, 'Wa
man dakhalahu kaan amina' {and whosoever enters it, is in peace}."
(Roohani Khazain vol. 1 p.666-667)
Verse [17:1] of Holy Quran: 'Praise be to Allah, who took His Servant on the Night Journey from Masjid Haram to Masjid Aqsa', its real
and literal application is the Mosque built by the father of Mirza Ghulam. (Collection of Advertisement vol.3 p.286)
According to Mirza Ghulam, Quran is the words of his mouth , his
Mosque is like the Kaaba and Masjid Aqsa is in Qadian and not in
Jerusalem
Based on the above-mentioned facts, Muslim scholars concluded
that Qadiyani is a deviant group that has nothing to do with Islam.

Dangerous Marriage Law

Urchinery raises alarm in Mombasa

Once again a mischievous piece of legislation under the guise of the Marriage Bill) is being floated which deliberately offends not only the Muslim
personal laws but the laws and sensibility of our fellow Kenyans.
As usual we will leave it to our leaders to take up this matter and take a
back seat. As Muslims we owe allegiance to Allah this is totally unacceptable Allah has honoured this Ummah by declaring it the best Ummah but
only if it promotes and stands up for good and resists and defends against
evil. One of the Hadiths of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) clearly
states that if a Muslim fails to do so he will not even get the smell of Jannah
(paradise).
In the recent past here in our country Muslims used their votes to reject the
referendum because it did not address their concerns very well. Similarly
each Muslim should urge his Member of Parliament to oppose such illegitimate legislation cooked by a handful of misguided individuals who now
wish to impose their weird thinking on to the people of Kenya. Our Muslim
MPs must also remember to be vigilant to point out legislations which go
against the interests of their Muslim constituents and Kenyans at large.
A quorum of only about 30 legislators in favour of this bill can bring it into
existence. We know that proponents of such evil laws have always depended on the laxity of our MPs and bring them to the house when few of
them are present in the house so that they can easily be voted through. Our
Muslim MPs should take the cue and be eagle eyed to ensure that these
advantage takers are stopped at all expenses. Our legislators please remember that before even being accountable to your constituents your first
accountability goes to Allah. Please do your duty.

It is no doubt that the city of Mombasa has become the

host to thousands of street urchins, some with families.
Walking along the Mombasa town streets especially at
night has now become a frightening experience. During the
day, the Old Town area is flooded by these visitors both
young and old who pose as beggars.
While it is true that economic hardship has pounced on
every one, it is equally important to note that urchinery has
increased to an alarming state in Mombasa prompting calls
from the local residents for urgent action to be undertaken
by the Government and particularly, the Mombasa municipality. The street residents are known to be the cause of
various vices in the town. Our mothers have been robbed
of their valuables and this has gone to an extent of rape
attacks.
As a matter of fact, the tourists who visit our areas are
in most times attacked by these muggers creating a bad
name for the once glorified city. Many motorists have also
fallen prey to these criminals who pluck side mirrors before
reselling them to the public through unscrupulous dealers.
I do recommend to the Mombasa Municipal Council to
come up a definite action plan on this matter or even borrow a leaffrom their sister local authority, the Nairobi City
Council to adress this issue.

Church insencere in opposition to Kadhis' courts

Church leaders in Kenya instead of preaching unity and reconciliation seem to be more irked by our Kadhis courts than peace in the
country. My message to them is to stop using Kadhis courts as an
excuse with which to regain legitimacy in Kenya.
The church leaders failed miserably at the height of the crisis in
Kenya when they took tribal positions and it was so bad that from a
persons last name you could predict what he or she would say even
before they opened their mouths at a press conference. They need
to clean out their own act before they start pointing fingers at others.
Where was this dedication when they all took tribal positions? There
has been Kadhis' in Kenya for more than 1000 years and never
have the Kadhis' courts ever interfered anyway with the rights of
non-Muslim in the country.
What they are doing is simply a smokescreen to fool the public that
the church leaders are a committed to their teachings.

Story From Page 4

I urge Kenyans to avoid this instigation and let the Kadhis courts
remain as they have
been and may we continue to co exist peacefully and lets all work
for the prosperity of this country we all live in and will continue to
live in.
Islam will be practiced in this country just like the other religions
until the Day of Judgment whether the likes of Margaret Wanjiru
like it or not.

Western women on a journey of faith

no more than their husbands were spending. In fact, child-rearing

became perceived as an obstacle to true achievement. Success
was measured only by how far one got in a job or how impressive a
woman's resume was, not by how great of a family she could inspire
and raise.
Women are now going back and valuing their prime role in life. Even
western women are realizing that it is a great benefit to be able to
stay at home with the kids and put the family as the top priority. This
is something Islam has always given them, without depriving them of
going out to work if it is the right environment," Wallis said.
In Islam, a husband cannot ask a woman to go out and "pitch in with
family expenses. He bears the full financial responsibility of providing
for the family. If the wife wants to contribute, then that is her decision.
But she has the freedom of deciding how much she gives, and when
enough is enough.
Islam gives sweeping rights to women: economic, political, and social,
but without depriving them of their natural femininity. Muslim women
are not ashamed of softness, of being a caring and devoted wife or
mother, of reclaiming their true femininity.
Women, through the Women's Liberation Movement of the 1960's

and 70s, were also taught it was beneficial to be masculine, and that
it was detrimental to be modest. It is a rare day a business woman
wears a long, flowery skirt to work; trousers and suit jackets are the
norm. Television broadcasters only hire women with low, authoritative" voices. Very short, masculine hair styles are more common in the
workplace than longer hair-according to one fashion magazine; a very
short hairdo tells others you are assertive" and "an achiever."
Sadly their abilities to act masculine in dress and ethic or look physically attractive are what they are valued for these days. Women take
on masculinity as a means of achieving, as a way of being valued.
That sends out the message that femininity, womanhood, is worthless; women in Islam have that value without having to masquerade
and act manly, and also without losing their guaranteed rights. It is
only because women are undervalued as women that they resort to
all that," said Wallis.
Many women who come to Islam discover how wonderful it is to grasp
true femininity, and to live like a woman for the first time in their lives.
That includes anything from dressing, speaking to behaving in a feminine way. Muslims believe that for a woman to strive for masculine
behavior, or vice versa, goes against Allah's natural plan and His perfect creation. (Islamweb.net)

US Opposes OIC Blasphemy

Resolution

'Israel plans to destroy Al-Aqsa'

WASHINGTON: The Obama administration criticized proposed

UN resolutions, sponsored by the
Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), an umbrella of 56
Muslim countries, to outlaw the
defamation of religions.
Some claim that the best way
to protect the freedom of religion
is to implement so-called antidefamation policiesI strongly
disagree, said Secretary of State
Hillary Clinton.
The protection of speech about
religion is particularly important
since persons of different faiths
will inevitably hold divergent views
on religious questions.
Since 1999, the OIC has annually
sponsored a defamation of religions resolution in the UN Human
Rights Council.
In May, the Council adopted a
non-binding resolution, proposed
by Pakistan on behalf of the OIC,
condemning religious defamation
and calling for respect of all faiths.

A senior Hamas leader has warned that Israel plans to

destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Al-Quds to build a new
temple in its place.
On Sunday, the mosque compound was the scene of
violent clashes for the second time in recent weeks after Israeli police invaded the compound and arrested 12
Arab worshippers. "It is the first step towards dividing
the mosque, a prelude to demolishing it and building a
temple in its place," said Hamas political leader Khalid
Meshaal in a speech in Damascus.
"Jerusalem belongs to its Arab inhabitants, Muslims and
Christians. The future (of the city) will not be settled at
the negotiating table, but on the ground of confrontation
and resistance," AFP quoted Meshaal as saying.
The Organization for Human Rights on the Temple
Mount, a rightist Israeli group, in a meeting on Sunday called for a new temple to be built in the Al-Aqsa
Mosque compound. Tensions have been high over the
past month and the compound has been the scene of
fighting after Israeli extremists, backed by Israel's police
force, tried to enter the mosque.
Israeli police also denied Palestinians access to the
mosque compound for a period of several days.
The blockade was followed by demonstrations in numerous countries, which resulted in the re-opening of
the mosque two weeks ago.
The Organization of the Islamic Conference has also
warned Israel of "dangerous consequences" for acts of
sacrilege in the holy Al-Aqsa mosque compound. (AFP)

Israel 'cutting Palestinian water'

Israel is denying Palestinians adequate
access to clean, safe water while allowing
almost unlimited supplies to Israeli settlers
in the occupied West Bank, human rights
group Amnesty International has said.
"Swimming pools, well-watered lawns and
large irrigated farms in Israeli settlements...
stand in stark contrast next to Palestinian
villages whose inhabitants struggle even to
meet their domestic water needs," the group
said in a report released on Tuesday.
Amnesty said between 180,000 and 200,000
Palestinians in West Bank rural communi-

ties have no access to running water, while

taps in other areas often run dry.
"Israel allows the Palestinians access to
only a fraction of the shared water resources, which lie mostly in the occupied West
Bank", Donatella Rovera, an Amnesty researcher, said.
Israel's daily water consumption per capita
is four times higher than the 70 litre per person consumed in the West Bank and the
Gaza Strip, according to the report entitled:

Calls grow for Jeddah consulate

Jeddah is the main entry point for pilgrims

from around the world.
The chairman of the Kenya Hajj Mission
Sharrif Hussein Omar appealed to the government to heed the cries of Muslims and
open up a consulate in the Saudi port city
saying that this would ease the suffering of
Kenyan pilgrims and other citizens working
in the area.
He pointed out that many smaller nations
as well as non-Muslim countries had established consulates in Jeddah to serve the
interests of their nationals and saw no reason why the government did not act on the
matter despite repeated requests spanning
over two decades. We have even brought
this matter to the attention of the Head of
State, the Vice President and Minister of
Foreign Affairs and we are yet to get a positive response, he said.
Sharrif Hussein once again called on Mus-

lims intending to travel for the Hajj to make

early preparations so as to avoid last minute
encumbrances. He also applauded the
Saudi government for easing the visa process and lifting health restrictions on Kenyan
pilgrims saying this would allow many Kenyans to perform the Hajj.
With the outbreak of the H1N1 flu, the Saudi government announced various health
measures to contain the spread of the virus during the Hajj which included placing a
caveat on those above 60 years, pregnant
women and other vulnerable groups from
perfoming the Hajj. Al-Amoody however,
said this would not be effected on Kenyan
pilgrims.
At the same time the Hajj mission chairman
advised intending pilgrims to avoid using
fake documents such as vaccination certificates and warned that this may lead to the
nullification of visas.
