To each his own

Permanently-installed sensors offer the most reliable transmission of measurement signals, but a
more flexible approach is often required. Handheld transducers let you take readings from any
accessible location on an as-needed basis; however, special attention must be paid to the type of
signal being measured and to the method of
coupling the transducer to the measurement
surface.

INFO2020G.08.98

For example, high-frequency shock pulse signals

used to diagnose pump cavitation and the operating condition of anti-friction bearings can easily become lost if the signal must travel too far or
cross too many material boundaries - including
that between the measurement surface and the
transducer tip. PRFTECHNIK has therefore developed special mechanisms that ensure sufficient transducer contact for reliable bearing diagnosis and cavitation detection.
TIPTECTOR lets you reach measurement locations
that are inaccessible with the built-in VIBROTIP
sensor, or those which obstruct your view of the
VIBROTIP display. It is also ideal for use with
VIBROCORD. Just as with VIBROTIP, the built-in
TIPTECTOR sensor allows simultaneous measurement and evaluation of three important machine
parameters:
Machine vibration velocity (to ISO standards)
Cavitation
Bearing condition (shock pulse)

The TIPTECTOR handle can be removed to fit the

probe into tight measurement spots.
The Mobile Transducer is a high-performance
accelerometer (linear to 20 kHz with resonance
tuned for shock pulse detection) designed for
optimization to any measurement surface
through use of interchangeable probe tips and
mounting fixtures. Its M5 threaded stud and flat
bottom allow it to be screwed directly onto
prepared measurement locations, or screw on
the probe tip for hand-held measurement. Alternatively, a range of adapters can be mounted
onto the machine via bonding, magnetic feet or
threaded studs of various sizes; each adapter has
an M5 threaded hole and flat top for convenient
connection and reliable signal transmission to the
Mobile Transducer. The probe tip and magnetic
adapter may be used for convenient measurement of general machine vibration, but not for
shock pulse readings of bearing condition or
pump cavitation.
