2(a) Explain the positive effects of the implementation of Education Act 1996
on the National Education System
1. To strengthen the national education system for young generations in line with the
nations aspiration to make Malaysia a centre of educational excellence of the highest
quality.
2. To enhance the technical education. This means that children can pursue their
study in technical field such as civil engineering, architecture and so on.
3. All pupils no matter in government, private or government aided school are
prepared for public exam such as UPSR and SPM.
4. Special education classes are provided so that pupils with special needs are not
exempted from receiving education.
5. Students who are more into hands on activities or practical practices can choose
to further their studies in vocational and polytechnic school.
6. There are no language barrier between teachers and students because Malay
language is used as the main medium of instruction.

strengthen
the
tribal
language
despite
providing
national language as a compulsory subject has affected the national education
system in many positive ways. One of it is the indigenous pupils such as the
Kadazan Dusun pupils in Sabah and Iban children in Sarawak are exposed to their
cultures and are taught about their mother tongue formally and informally in schools.
8. Affects the national education system to be uniform in schools nationwide so that
the education can be systematically delivered. By using a standardized curriculum,
every subject taught can be easily coordinated and pupils are given the chance of
learning the same curriculum, sit for the same examinations, and undergo uniform
tests and evaluation throughout their years of study.
9. To strengthen the national language as the main medium of instruction. This
affects the education system by enhancing the foundation of using Malay Language
among young generations. It has been set as one of the compulsory subjects and it
is also compulsory for the pupils to pass the examination for the subject.
10. Education Act 1996 requires Malaysia education system to use a standard
evaluation and examination system. This affects our education system to have same
public examinations for the students in schools such as UPSR, PT3, and also SPM.
these examinations are prepared special according to recognized standard proposed
by the Ministry of Education. This is to make sure that students in schools undergo
uniform evaluation and examinations.

11. It helps to strengthen the teacher training programme. It is to prepare and equip
the novice teacher with the current skills required. For example, the government
provided specific training for teachers through IPGM and educational institution.
12. To strengthen the tribal language. This is because the tribal language is a
valuable culture and heritage. Nowadays, the younger generations have seem to
have difficulties in communicating through their own tribal language. Hence, the
Education Act 1996 helped the younger generation to learn and appreciate more on
their language. The efforts can be seen through the Kadazan Dusun language that is
taught at schools around Sabah.
