Personal life[edit]

Venkat was born in Bangalore into Kannada-speaking family of Vokkaligas, M.

Laxman and Gowramma. He enrolled in higher education and sought a Diploma
in civil engineering, but failed to complete his coursework.[2][3] In 2007, he
married his live-in girlfriend Reshma, whom he met while working on the film
Swathanthra Palya. They separated after three years.[5]
Career[edit]
Venkat made his acting debut playing a supporting role in the 2005 Kannada film
Mental Manja.[6] His next role was as the lead in the 2009 film Swathanthra
Palya, which he also directed.[7][8] In his 2014 Huccha Venkat that he directed
and produced, he starred as the eponymous lead, which received negative
reviews.[9][10][11]
Venkat has since appeared as a guest in television shows such as Bengaluru
Benne Dose and Divided.[12][13] In October 2015 he appeared as a contestant
on the reality television series Bigg Boss Kannada 3 aired on Colors Kannada.[14]
While on the show Venkat clashed with other participants, primarily due to his
insistence that his female contestants were dressing inappropriately.[15][16][17]
[18][19] This eventually led to his eviction from the house after he assaulted
another contestant, Ravi Mooruru for insulting Huccha Venkat Sene.[20][21][22]
[23] Venkat also challenged Sudeep, later withdrew the challenge and didn't
want to talk to Sudeep ever.[20] Ravi Mooruru praised Venkat, his post eviction
from Bigg Boss Kannada 3 house for Venkat's concern towards women.[24]
It is to be noted, Venkat was the most popular contestant in Bigg Boss Kannada
3, celebrities such as Raghu Dixit, Priyamani supported him.[25][26][27][28][29]
Venkat has since, been referred to in the media and social media platforms as
"Youtube Star", "Internet Star", "Ban Star" and "Firing Star" of Kannada cinema.
[4][25][30][31][32][33] Huccha Venkat fans have also created a Android app
Huccha Venkat to get latest updates of their favorite actor.[34][35][36] Senior
journalist Ganesh Kasargod has written book "Huchcha VenkatHuchchu
Manasina nooru Mukhagalu" which is ready for release in January 2016.[37]
Huccha Venkat started his singing career with Yograj Bhat's Parapancha movie by
singing Huttida Ooranu song. This received positive response from fans and from
Kannada film industry.
Venkat is frequently seen as a controversial person by news outlets.[3] Two of his
most notable controversies center around things he said while promoting his
2014 film Huccha Venkat, where he made claims that he was married to the
Kannada actress Ramya and gave an expletive-laden rant to a television
interviewer. Ramya responded to Venkat's claims by filing a police report and
publicly refuting his statements, to which Venkat did not issue any response although he did stop claiming Ramya was his wife.[45][46][47][48][49][50]
Venkat's rant, which was sparked by the poor opening turnout for his film, quickly
went viral on YouTube and spawned several parody videos.[3][51]

Venkat made other controversial statements in November 2015, in a television

appearance where he allegedly made derogatory remarks towards B. R.
Ambedkar while taking part in a panel discussion.[52][53][54][55] After the
appearance several students viewing the discussion lodged complaints against
Venkat and the news station, who they claimed provoked Venkat into making the
offensive remarks.[54] These complaints were followed by several protests and
blackened Venkat's face.[56][57][58] Venkat was arrested on 19 November 2015,
and will be held in judicial custody until December 4, 2015.[54][59][60]
Ironically, Venkat's fame continues to grow. Venkat was welcomed by jail inmates
in parappana agrahara, Bangalore where is held in judicial custody.[61] Venkat's
attorney has claimed that Venkat suffers from schizophrenia.[62] As a growing
concern, Venkat's remarks in TV channel is said to be discussed in Karnataka
Legislative Assembly.[63] On 25 November, a Bangalore city civil court issued
conditional bail to Venkat.[32][64][65][66] Venkat was not until the surety
amount was paid and completed the bail formalities, he was finally released on 3
December with conditional bail.[67][68][69]
The Times of India commented on Venkat's behavior, stating that he was a "sad
reflection of our times" and that he "embodies all the drivel that is delivered as
entertainment and news these days by our television channels."[70] They
criticized his remarks on the panel discussion, where they stated that he "lives in
a world of fallacies and fantasies" and that he "believes in enforcing his ideas of
morality, behaviour and attire on women."[70]
The actor also engaged in several controversies in the third season of famous
Kannada TV Show "Bigg Boss", He took a rage at actress turned politician Pooja
Gandhi for wearing western clothes on the show, this resulted in the poor woman
left to tears not knowing what to do. Also Huccha Venkat was finally evicted from
the show after slapping fellow contestant Ravi Moorur. This eviction was
glamorized quickly by the Kannada press and was what lead to Huccha Venkat's
newly found fame. Huccha Venkat has also claimed he will become Prime
Minister of India, oneday.[71][72]

Arnab Goswami is an Indian journalist who is the editor-in-chief and a news
anchor of the Indian news channel Times Now and ET Now.[2][3] The Newshour,
a live debate anchored by him, is aired at 9 pm (IST) weekdays on Times Now.[4]
[5][6] He also hosts a special television programme Frankly Speaking with Arnab.

Goswami was born in Guwahati, Assam on 9 October 1973.[9][10] He comes
from a family of eminent jurists. His paternal grandfather, Rajani Kanta Goswami,
was a lawyer, a Congress leader and an independence activist.[11] His maternal
grandfather, Gauri Sankar Bhattacharya, was a Communist and leader of the
opposition in Assam for many years.[11] He was a writer and a recipient of the
Asam Sahitya Sabha Award. Arnab Goswami's father is Colonel (Retd.)
Manoranjan and his mother is Suprabha.[12] Manoranjan has been a member of
the Bharatiya Janata Party and contested the 1998 Lok Sabha Polls as the BJP

candidate for the Guwahati to Lok Sabha of Assam where he was defeated by
Congress candidate Bhubaneshwar Kalita.[13]
As an army officer's son,[11] he attended schools in various cities. Arnab has a
Bachelor's (Hons.) from Sociology from the Hindu College in Delhi University.[9]
In 1994 Arnab completed his Master's from Social Anthropology from St. Antonys
College, in Oxford University.[9] In 2000, Arnab was a Visiting D C Pavate Fellow
at the International Studies Department at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge
University.[9]
Before joining NDTV in 1995 Arnab Goswami started his career in "The
Telegraph" in Calcutta,[14] which was for a stint less than a year.

He later shifted his career in TV news broadcast with NDTV 24x7 in 1995, where
he anchored daily newscasts, and reporting for News Tonight a programme
telecast on DD Metro.[15] Later as the news editor, he was part of NDTV's core
team during the transition from programme producer to the 24-hour mode in
1998.[citation needed] He hosted the Newshour show every weeknight.
Newshour was the longest running news analysis shown on any channel (1998
2003).[citation needed] As a Senior Editor with NDTV 24x7, he was responsible
for the overall editorial content of the channel.
He hosted one of the channel's top rated news analysis show Newsnight,[16]
which won him an award for the Best News Anchor of Asia 2004 in the 2004
Asian Television Awards.
Goswami is the editor-in-chief and a news anchor of the Times Now news channel
since 2006.[17] His show The Newshour is aired at 9 pm with live news coverage,
which has featured notable personalities like Parvez Musharraf[18] and Rahul
Bajaj. His notable accomplishments include stepping up with the 11 July 2006
Mumbai train bombings, interviewing over 200 politicians and analysts during
the Trust Vote in October 2008 within a span of 26 hours of live anchoring and
hosting the 26/11 Mumbai Terror attacks for over 65 hours.[19] He also hosts a
special programme Frankly Speaking with Arnab,[20] which has featured
personalities such as Benazir Bhutto[21] and former UK Prime Minister Gordon
Brown,[22] Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai,[23] retired head of state of the
Tibetan Government in Exile Dalai Lama,[24] former United States Secretary of
State Hillary Clinton,[25] and a host of prominent Indian personalities from
politics, sports, films, and the corporate world. He has also written a book named
Combating Terrorism: The Legal Challenge.[citation needed]
The Newshour reception[edit]
Goswami's heated discussions during The Newshour has invited criticism from
newsweekly Outlook running a cover story titled 'The Man Who Killed TV News'.
[26] "Newshour is where Arnab plays judge, the audience the jury", the report
stated, adding that "On key news events, Arnab has emerged as The Great
Polariser, his acid tongue stripping complex issues of all nuance"[26] Goswami,

in a key note address to Goafest, defended his brand of journalism by stating,

"The journalism I follow is journalism of opinion and is not PR driven. If my
opinion helps bringing about a change, I will opine and not shy behind the wall of
neutrality." [27]
The JNU Controversy[edit]
Arnab Goswami has been criticized for his reporting on Jawaharlal Nehru
University, Delhi. He, reportedly, invited Umar Khalid[28] and other students of
Jawaharlal Nehru University who organized a rally in February, 2016 to protest
against hanging of Mohammed Afzal Guru to Newshour debate, and called them
as 'anti nationals'.[29] This sparked a backlash from media and students in India.
[30] A JNU professor said, "Arnab Goswami is a traitor to journalism. He uses
coercion and intimidation through the means of right wing members on his
panel. On Monday night, the only time He was quiet on the show was when
Sambit Patra of the BJP shouted at Shabnam Lone, Saba Naqvi, and Waris Pathan
and challenged the three to chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai after him. This is extremely
dangerous intimidation.".[31]
The wire also accused Arnab of playing a doctored video that shows Kanhaiya
Kumar raising anti-India slogans on his channel Times Now. The Times Now
denied the charge.[32]

Anupam Kher (born 7 March 1955) is an Indian actor who has appeared in
several hundred films and many plays.[1] Mainly working in Hindi films, he has
also appeared in acclaimed international films such as the 2002 Golden Globe
nominated Bend It Like Beckham, Ang Lee's 2007 Golden Lion winning Lust,
Caution, and David O. Russell's 2013 Oscar winning Silver Linings Playbook. Kher
has won the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Comic Role five times. For
his performance in film Vijay he won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting
Actor.
He has held the post of chairman of Central Board of Film Certification and
National School of Drama in India.[1] The Government of India honoured him
with the Padma Shri in 2004 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016 for his contribution
in the field of cinema and arts.
His wife, actress Kirron Kher is a Member of the Indian Parliament from
Chandigarh.[2]
Early life[edit]
Kher was born on 7 March 1955 in Shimla. His father was a clerk and he had a
modest upbringing. He received education at D.A.V. School in Shimla. In his
struggling days as an actor in Mumbai he used to sleep on the railway platform
before he found fame and fortune in films.[3] He is an alumnus and a former
chairperson of the National School of Drama. Some of his early acting roles were
in plays performed at the Himachal Pradesh University.[4]

Kher made his acting debut in the 1982 Hindi movie Aagman. Then in 1984 came
Saaransh, where 28-year-old Kher played a retired middle class Maharashtrian
man who has lost his son. He hosted TV shows such as Say Na Something To
Anupam Uncle, Sawaal Dus Crore Ka, Lead India and the recent The Anupam
Kher Show - Kucch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai which has become a big hit on its 1st
episode when Shah Rukh Khan was invited as his guest. He has had many comic
roles but has also played the villain such as his acclaimed role as terrorist Dr.
Dang in Karma (1986). For his role in Daddy (1989) he received the Filmfare
Critics Award for Best Performance.
He has starred alongside Hindi Cinema's superstar Shahrukh Khan many times in
films such as Darr (1993), Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995), Chaahat (1996),
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Mohabbatein (2000) and Veer-Zaara (2004).
He ventured into directing with Om Jai Jagadish (2002) and has been a producer.
He produced and starred in the film Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara (2005). He
received the Best Actor Award from the Karachi International Film Festival for his
performance. The role of the Police Commissioner Rathor, played by him in
critically and commercially acclaimed A Wednesday is also very much
appreciated.
Kher is known internationally for Bend It Like Beckham (2002), Bride and
Prejudice (2004), Speedy Singhs (2011), his appearance on the hit TV show ER,
and more recently in The Mistress of Spices (2006) and Lust, Caution (2007). In
2012 he co-starred in the Academy Award-winning Silver Linings Playbook.
Kher has written and starred in a play about his own life called Kucch Bhi Ho
Sakta Hai, which was directed by Feroz Abbas Khan.[4][5]
Until recently he served as chairman of the Indian Film Censor Board. He is an
alumnus of National School of Drama (1978 batch) and was its director between
2001 and 2004.
In 2007, Anupam Kher, with his batchmate of NSD, Satish Kaushik,[6] started a
film production company, Karol Bagh Productions. Their first film, Tere Sang, was
directed by Satish Kaushik.[7]
He was appointed in 2010 as the goodwill ambassador of the Pratham Education
Foundation, which strives to improve children's education in India.[8]
In 2011, he starred alongside Mohanlal and Jayaprada in the Malayalam language
romantic drama Pranayam. Kher chose Pranayam as one of the seven best films
of his career.[9]
He also starred in a number of Marathi films such as Thoda Tuza...Thoda Maza,
Kashala Udyachi Baat and Punjabi films such as Yaaraan naal bahaaraan.
He is also an occasional talk show participant.[10]

In 2009, Kher has given his Hindi voice to Carl Fredricksen in the Disney-Pixar 3D
animated film Up, which was his first dubbing role and his very first voice role.

Siddaramaiah (born 12 August 1949) is an Indian politician who has been the
22nd Chief Minister of Karnataka, a state in South India, since 2013. Currently a
leader of the Indian National Congress party, Siddaramaiah was a member of
various Janata Parivar factions for several years.[2] Earlier, as a Janata Dal
(Secular) leader, he was Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka on two occasions.[3]
On 13 May 2013 he was sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka.[4] S
Siddharamaiah, an atheist, is known for his socialist, secular and anti-caste
outlook.
He was born to Siddarame Gowda and Boramma in a remote village called
Siddaramanahundi in Varuna Hobli near to T.Narasipura of Mysore District in a
farming family.[5] He had no formal schooling until he was ten but went on to do
his B.Sc and Bachelor of Law from Mysore University. He is a leader from the
Kuruba Gowda community.[6][7][8][9] He is the second amongst five siblings.

Siddaramaiah was a junior under a lawyer, Chikkaboraiah, in Mysore and later
taught law for some time.
Political career[edit]
Before 1978, he began political career when Najunda Swamy, a lawyer in Mysore,
spotted him at the district courts as a law graduate. He was asked to contest and
was elected to the Mysore Taluka. He contested on a Bharatiya Lok Dal ticket
from Chamundeshwari constituency and entered the 7th Karnataka Legislative
Assembly in 1983. His was a surprise victory and it earned him name and fame
in the Old Mysore region.
Later he joined the ruling Janata Party and became the first president of the
Kannada Surveillance Committee (Kannada Kavalu Samiti), set up to supervise
the implementation of Kannada as an official language. During the mid-term polls
in 1985, Siddaramaiah was re-elected from the same constituency and became
Minister for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services. In Chief Minister

Ramakrishna Hegde's government, he handled diverse portfolios such as

Sericulture, Animal Husbandry and Transport at different stages.
He first suffered defeat in the 1989 Assembly elections, beaten by a veteran
Congress leader, M. Rajasekara Murthy. Later in 1992, he was appointed as
Secretary General of Janata Dal, which H. D. Deve Gowda had also joined. He was
elected again in the 1994 State Elections and became the Minister for Finance in
the Janata Dal government headed by Deve Gowda. He was made Deputy Chief
Minister when J. H. Patel became Chief Minister in 1996. After the split in the
Janata Dal, he joined the Janata Dal (Secular) faction of Deve Gowda and became
the president of its state unit. However, he lost in the 1999 state elections. In
2004, when the Indian National Congress and JDS formed a coalition government
with Dharam Singh as Chief Minister, he was again appointed as Deputy Chief
Minister.[11]
Congress[edit]
In 2005, after differences with H. D. Deve Gowda, Siddaramaiah was expelled
from JD (S). He wanted to form a regional party "ABVPJD" in the state after
quitting the JD (S), but he did not because regional parties formed in Karnataka
earlier did not survive.[12] He subsequently garnered mass support from the
backward classes and joined the Congress at a large public meeting held in
Bangalore, in Sonia Gandhi's presence. He won the Chamundeshwari bypolls held
in December 2006, by a margin of 257 votes against M. Shivabasappa of JDS,
despite a fierce campaign against him by Deve Gowda, Chief Minister
Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister Yeddyurappa in the constituency.[11] In
the 2008 state Assembly elections, he contested from Varuna Constituency and
was re-elected for the fifth time.
He won the 2013 election from the same constituency on 8 May 2013. He was
elected as the leader of the Congress legislative party in the Karnataka assembly
on 10 May 2013.[13] He had previously announced that the 2013 Assembly
election would be his last election.[14]

Siddaramaiah was elected as Chief Minister after Congress adopted secret
balloting to select the new chief minister.[15][16] He led the Indian National
Congress to victory by achieving an absolute majority in the May 2013 Karnataka
Legislative Assembly election.[17]

He is married to Parvathi and has two sons: Rakesh, who has had a few film roles
and helps his father, and Yathindra, who is a doctor.[18][19] He is an atheist, and
took the chief minister's oath in name of "Truth" instead of "God".[20]

With various political parties cornering Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah
over a luxurious watch gifted to him, Congress MLC V S Ugrappa to on Tuesday
gave various options before him including to declare it as state asset.
The Karnataka Chief Minister has three options before him he can give back it
(the Rs 70 lakh diamond-studded Hublot watch) gifted by someone to him or he
can declare it as a state asset or conduct an auction, Ugrappa told, after
opposition BJP filed a complaint with Enforcement Directorate seeking a probe
into its origin.
Siddaramaiah can do what former Chief Ministers S Nijalingappa and D Devaraja
Urs did they declared their expensive gifts as state assets. This is what
Siddaramaiah could do or go for an auction, he said.

MEERUT: The whole country is today talking about Ringing Bells, Mohit Goel's Rs
251 smartphone. His father Rajesh Goel, though, sitting in his small grocery shop
that proclaims its name to be 'Ram ji' on a grey board, doesn't know what the
fuss is all about. He says he always knew his son would do something big. Even
in Garhipukhta, a small town in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, not many knew
about the Goels or their shop. It's a different story today. They are suddenly all
that everyone here is discussing.
Goel Sir, who is now also one of the directors of the company, said, "After
completing his schooling, Mohit went to Noida and completed his graduation
from Amity University. The last time that he was home to meet us, he had
expressed his desire to open a company and I loaned him some money to start
what he wanted to. Then he started a mobile phone company and told us about
his venture. Little did we know what it meant then. It's really big, is it? We also
attended the event where Freedom 251 mobile was launched in New Delhi."

Mohit, who is the managing director of Ringing Bells, has lived with his father at
Garhipukhta most of his life, often helping around in the grocery shop. On
Thursday, Ringing Bells launched Freedom 251, the mobile phone, in a glitzy
event in New Delhi that was attended by several dignitaries, including senior BJP

leader Murli Manohar Joshi. A few residents from Shamli were also invited to the
launch.
After completing his schooling from Saint RC Convent School, Mohit earned his
engineering degree from Amity University. He recently married Dhaarna, a Noida
resident, who is now CEO of Ringing Bells
The ministry of communications and information technology on Monday quizzed
the management of Noida-based firm, Ringing Bells, which came into the
limelight after launching a smartphone for Rs 251.
The company's president Ashok Chaddha and promoter Mohit Goel were grilled
about the viability of their business model and how they were offering the
smartphone Freedom 251, at such a low price when experts have said that the
handset cannot be sold below Rs 3500.
"It will import 50,00,000 units in the first phase, which will be assembled here.
Then,they will start manufacturing in India," a senior official from the ministry
told Business Standard. The company also informed it would soon apply for a
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certificate.
Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has asked department secretary, Aruna Sharma, to
look into the scheme.Also, a committee has been set up in the department to
ascertain the claims by Ringing Bells. It has been triggered by a letter from
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirit Somaiya and Indian Cellular Association. The
panel's report is expected this week.
The income tax and excise departments are also looking into the financial
structure of the company and have obtained documents, including from the
registrar of companies, in this regard. Freedom 251 was launched last week in a
big event by BJP senior leader Murli Manohar Joshi. The online booking started on
February 18 but the company site soon crashed.
Till now, it has taken money from 30,000 customers -- while the phone will be
delivered in the next four months.
W DELHI: Since he announced the launch of a mobile phone for Rs 251, Mohit
Goel has faced widespread scepticism, along with visits by police and income tax
officials at his rented two-storey office in Noida. However, the Amity University
graduate insists that he will not only deliver the phones at the stunning price he
has quoted, but also make a profit of Rs 31 on each handset sold.
"Why am I being hounded? What wrong have I done?" Goel asked in the course
of an exclusive interview with TOI. The director of Ringing Bells insists that his
new venture is not a fly-by-night operation and will begin customer deliveries
from April 15.
"Has there ever been a case of income-tax evasion against me or my company,
or has there been an FIR filed against me in any police station? Why am I being

called a 'bhagora' (who'll run away with the money)? I intend to do a valid
business, just like any other startup, and I have a business plan ready."
The company claims it has received over 7 crore registrations on its website
since it started accepting applications on February 18. "We are taking online
bookings for only 25 lakh units in the first batch due to limited supplies, while
giving another 25 lakh through offline distributors. I will deliver the handsets
before June 30. All the money that we receive from customers through the
payment gateway will be kept in an escrow account and we will touch it only
when we deliver the devices." The company has an account with ICICI Bank.
Goel, and his much-older confidant Ashok Chadha, who is the president of the
company, insists that there have not been any infringements on design and
other matters.
"Some of the devices had the Adcom branding as we sourced panel (screen) from
them. However, the final device will have our branding and the phone will have
the same features and design that we had showcased."
The dual SIM Freedom 251 device carries a 4-inch display, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal
memory with a 1.3GHZ quad-core processor, dual cameras and comes with a
charger, headphone and one-year warranty.
The duo say that they have a carefully laid-out business model to manage the
disruptive price for the device "The price that works out per device is roughly
around Rs 1,500," Chadha says. insists, though significantly lowering it down
from the Rs 2,500 he had announced on the day of the unveiling of the device.
"We will source the devices from a supplier in Noida, who will be assembling the
units for us after getting components from Taiwan." And while we do this, we also
start the work to identify land and suppliers for setting up our manufacturing
locations. For this, we have identified Noida while also looking at locations in
Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Bihar and Punjab," Chadha says.
And just how does he bring down the cost to Rs 251, and also earn a profit?
"Economies of scale gets it down to around Rs 1,200, and thereafter an online
sales model cuts down marketing and sales expenses, giving us further savings,"
he says. And to this we will add marketing piggybacks from companies whose
applications we load on the devices. We will save around Rs 300 per device more
through this," Chadha says.
The unveiling of the phone on February 17 had created quite a flutter among
existing handset suppliers, prompting industry body Indian Cellular Association
to file a complaint with the government. (ICA) -- which has members such as
Samsung, Apple, Sony, Lava, Micromax, Karbonn, Motorola and HTC -- ICA
president Pankaj Mohindroo wrote a letter to telecom minister Ravi Shankar
Prasad, expressing doubts about the intentions of Ringing Bells, saying it is not
possible to supply a phone for Rs 251.

Also, there were allegations that the company had ripped off the design of the

Pahlaj Nihalani is the present head of the Central Board of Film Certification of
India.[1] He is a film producer. He was also the President of the Association of
Motion Pictures and TV Programme Producers for 29 years until 2009.[2] He is
known as the producer of the films such as Shola Aur Shabnam and Aankhen.[2]

Prior to the Indian general election, 2014, he had also produced the YouTube
video "Har Har Modi, Ghar Ghar Modi" supporting BJP candidate Narendra Modi.

Nihalani produced his first film in 1982, it was Haathkadi. His second film was
Aandhi-Toofan in 1985. His next film, Ilzaam in 1986, is notable for being actor
Govinda's debut. His film, Aag Hi Aag in 1987, also served as the debut for
Chunky Pandey. He then went on to produce Gunahon Ka Faisla in 1987, and
Paap Ki Duniya in 1988. In 1989, the film Mitti Aur Sona, starring Chunky Pandey
and Neelam Kothari, was considered a box office success. The Shola Aur
Shabnam released in 1992, starring Govinda and Divya Bharti, was considered a
huge box office hit. In 1993, Aankhen, produced by him, was also a big box office

In 2008, he made a cameo appearance in the film Halla Bol.[6] In 2012, he
directed his first film, Avataar, starring Govinda.[7] In 2013, he said that he
would help debut Govinda's daughter, Narmada Ahuja.[8] Before the 2014
general elections, he produced the viral campaign called "Har Har Modi, Ghar
Ghar Modi", supporting Narendra Modi.[4]
He took the office of the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification
(CBFC) on 19 January 2015.[6] Soon after his appointment, he floated a new set
of strict guidelines under which curse words will be allowed only in A-rated films.
He also said that depiction of violence against women will be discouraged and it
will be ensured that no content which may hurt religious sentiments will be
allowed.[9]
On 12 March 2015, two members of the CBFC, Ashoke Pandit and
Chandraprakash Dwivedi, criticised the way in which Nihalani was running the
organisation.[10] On 9 July 2015, he implemented a new rule under which A-

rated films were no longer allowed for television broadcast. Earlier, A-rated films
could be re-cut, to achieve U or U/A rating and released on television. Nihalani
justified his decision by saying that past A-rated films contained horror or
violence, but most recent A-rated films have sexual themes and so they cannot
be re-cut.[11]
On 10 November 2015, a music video called "Mera Desh Mahaan", produced by
Nihalani as a tribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi was uploaded to YouTube. A
shorter version of the video was played in film theatres during the interval of the
film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.[12] After the kissing scenes in the film Spectre were
shortened before release, Nihalani attracted criticism on the social media.
Nihalani responded to the criticism by stating that cuts were within the rules.[13]

In December 2015, Nihalani registered "Sanskari" as the title of his next film.[16]
In late December 2015, Nihalani requested the Ministry of Information and
Broadcasting to form regulations on online film trailers. He said that some films,
like Mastizaade and Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3, were using deleted scenes in their
online trailers and misleading the people.[17]
Personal views and opinions[edit]
Nihalani is self-confessed supporter of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and considers
Narendra Modi a hero.[18] Nihalani has expressed concerns regarding the
existence of nudity online and on television.[19][20] According to him, there
should be one policy on the censorship of nudity in all media similar to films.[19]
He has also expressed concerns that young children may be accessing the
website of pornstar-turned-actress Sunny Leone.[20] Nihalani holds the view that
films should not contain cuss words. He has said that film like cuss words like,
Omkara and Gangs of Wasseypur, should not have been approved for release.
[21] He has claimed that normal and civilised people do not cuss in the manner
depicted in films.[22]
Nihalani has said that producers should not make controversial films like PK.[23]
Nihalani has proposed that the existing system of film ratings should be replaced
by a new system with more categories.[24][25] He has also condemned the
protests of FTII students against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the
Chairman, by calling them anti-government.[25][26]
2012 Avataar is an upcoming Bollywood drama comedy film directed by Pahlaj
Nihalani. It features Govinda and Shatrughan Sinha in the lead roles, along with
Yashpal Sharma in a supporting role. The film also features Sunny Deol, who
makes a special appearance.[1] The film was scheduled to be released on 25
December 2015.[2]
