Finding Peace in Christ

Memory Verse

Psalm 46:10a “Be still, and know that I am God…”

Introduction

It’s amazing how busy we get. How many plates are you trying to hold up at once? Classes? Pleasing your
parents? Chores, work and parenthood?

I moved overseas shortly after my second child was born. I found myself juggling a sick two-year-old, a newborn
that wasn’t sleeping well, and living in a hotel in a foreign country. I didn’t own a car yet and the nearest store
was fairly close, but it was really cold and snowy outside. I felt trapped in an unfamiliar world and I let the chaos
push me down. I needed rest in more than one way.

Occasionally, I would find a few minutes where both children were actually quiet. Laundry was piled high and
dishes were dirty, but I seized the opportunity to spend a few moments with God. I knew that it wouldn’t last for
long—that the baby would soon erupt into fits from his reflux or the toddler would wake up and decide he was
tired of being stuck inside—but it was in those few minutes of peace that I did my best to refresh my soul and look
to God for peace. It was amazing how God was able to speak to me in ways that I needed, even if I could only give
him a few minutes of my time.

Discussion

What kinds of things keep you busy? Do you take time each day to spend with God? How do you think a few
moments with God would affect the rest of your day?

Is it wrong to take care of your home or to prepare for company?

What should be our priority?

Sometimes we get so focused on the things we have to do that we don’t leave time for God. If we dedicate some
time to him, how does that help us?

Conclusion

Proverbs 14:30 says, “A heart at peace gives life to the body…” When we find ourselves needing energy, the best
thing we can do is take the time to bring our hearts to peace. Let God bring you the peace that you need.

Life Application

Find a moment today to spend with God. Even if it’s inconvenient or uncomfortable, while nursing or riding to
school, take a moment to ask God for wisdom and peace, and tell Him how thankful you are for His blessings.
