9Claims.(Cl.27218)Thisinventionrelatesgenerallytoimprovementsinamusementdevices,andmoreparticularly,to
animprovedamusementdeviceofthetypewhereinthepassengerswillreceivetheimpressionofridinginaninterplanetary
spacecraft.
Thepresentinventioncontemplatesanovelamusementdevicehavingtheoverallconfigurationofaspacecraftandbeing
formedinvarioussections,withportionsofthesectionsbeingrotatedinoppositedirectionstogivetheimpressionof
movementtothepassengers.Itisalsocontemplatedtomovethecraftupanddownanddisplayananimatedmovieof
heavenlybodiesabovethepassengerstogivethepassengersanimpressionofleavingtheearthandapproachinga
distantplanetorthelike.Thisinventionfurthercontemplatestheprovisionofelectromagnets,conesandthelikecarried
bytheoppositelyrotatingsectionsofthedevice,andwindowsthroughwhichthepassengersmayview.thesesimulated,
objectstogivetheimpressiontothepassengersthattheyareviewingtheinnerworkingsofaninterplanetaryspacecraft
duringflightofthecraftFinally,thisinventioncontemplatestheconstructionofthevariousportionsofanamusement
devicesimulatinganinterplanetaryspacecraftinsuchamannerthatthedevicemaybeeasilytransportedinsections
fromonelocationtoanotherandreassembledinaminimumoftime.
aAnimportantobjectofthisinventionistoprovideanamusement.devicewhereinapassengerinthedevicereceivesthe
impressionofflyingin'aninterplanetaryspacecraft.
Anotherobjectofthisinventionistoprovideanamusementdevicehavingageneralconfigurationofaninterplanetary
spacecraftandhavingoppositelyrotatingsectionssimulatingthemovementofvariousportionsofsuchaspacecraft
duringflight.
Afurtherobjectofthisinventionistoprovideanamusementdevicesimulatinganinterplanetaryspacecraftandhavinga
passengercabinwhereinthepassengersmay.viewvariousmovingportionsofthedevicetoimpressthepassengerswith
flightinaspacecraft.
Anotherobjectofthisinventionistoprovideanamusementdevicesimulatinganinterplanetaryspacecraftwhereinthe
passengerswillbephysicallymovedaveryminordistanceandyetwillreceivetheimpressionofflyinginaspacecraft.
Afurtherobjectofthisinventionistoprovideaportableamusementdevicesimulatinganinterplanetaryspacecraftwhich
maybeeasilydisassembledandtransportedfromonelocationtoanother.
Astillfurtherobjectofthisinventionistoprovideanamusementdevicewhichissimpleinconstruction,maybe

economicallymanufactured,andwhichwillhavealongservicelife.

comprises,generallyspeaking,asupportingstructureandlandinggear10anouterrotatingshell12,aninnerrotating
assembly14(shownonlyinFig.2)andapassengercabin16extendingdownwardlyintotheupperendportionofthe
outershell12.Thelandinggearandsupportingmechanism10comprisesaverticallyextendingtubularmember18
aroundwhichtheoutershell12andinnerrotatingassembly14arejournaled,aswillbehereinaftersetforth,anda
pluralityoflegsZO'extendingradiallyoutwardincircumferentiallyspacedrelae.tionfromthelowerendofthetubular
member18.Thetubularmember18istelescopedoverasupportingstanchion22whichmaybeintheformofapipe,and
thetubularmember18isslidinglysupportedonthestan:chion22bysuitablewheelsorrollers24tofacilitatevertical
movementofthemember18onthestanchion22',aswillbehereinaftersetforth.Thestanchion22ispreferably
supportedinasuitablefoundation25toprovideadequatestrengthfortheamusementdevice.
Asuitablejack'26,preferablyahydraulicjack,isanchoredinthefoundation25underneaththeouterendportionofeachof
thelandinggearlegs20andisprovidedwithanextension28extendingupwardlyintoconnectionwiththerespectiveleg
20.Thejacks26areoperatedsimultaneouslytoraiseandlowerthelandinggearandsupportingstructure10,aswillbe
described.Asuitableshapedhousing34ispreferablysecuredaroundeachofthelandinggearlegs20toprovidea
streamlinedappearance.Itmaybenotedthateachofthelegs20ispreferablyconstructedoutofastructurallystrong
member,suchasanIbeam,andissecuredto'thelowerendportionofthetubularmember18bysuitablebraces32and
plates34toassurearigidandadequateconnectionofthelegs29tothetubularmember18.
Apairofrollers36(seealsoFig.3')are'rotatablysupportedadjacenttheouterendportionofeachleg20ofthelanding
gearandarearrangedtoengageacirculartrack38(Figs.,2and4)forpartiallysupportingtheoutershell12andinner
rotatingassembly14aswillbedescribed.Also,asuitabledrivemotor44)(Fig.3)ismountedononeofthelegs20ofthe
landinggearandisconnectedthroughasuitablegearbox42tooneoftherollers36torotatetheoutershell12.with
respecttothelandinggearand'supportingstructure1G.'Theroller36connectedtothedrivemotor40maybesuitably
chained(notshown)toitscompanionroller36toassureanadequatedriveconnectionbetweenthedrivemotor40and
thecirculartrack38.7Theshe1l12(Fig.2)istubularinconfiguration,withthediameterofthecentralportion
thereofsubstantiallylargerthanthediameterattheoppositeendsthereof,andissupportedinanuprightpositiontogive
thegeneralappearanceoftwosaucersplacedfacetoface.Theouteredgeportion44oftheshell12ispreferablyformed
ofpartiallytransparentmaterial,suchasPlexiglas,andisilluminatedfromwithin(notshown)toprovideabandoflight
aroundthecentralportionoftheshell12.Theremainderoftheshell12isformedofanydesiredopaqueandrelative
strongmaterial,suchasaluminumlaminatedMasonitesheets.
Theshell12issupportedonaframegenerallydesignatedbyreferencecharacter46andillustratedinFigs.2and4.The
frame46iscircularinplan,asviewedinFig.4,andissubstantiallyUshapedincrosssection(asshowninFig.2)to
provideanupperhorizontallyextendingportion48andalowerhorizontallyextendingportion50whichextendfrom
adjacentthesupportmember18outwardlytothecentralportionoftheshell12.Theframe46maybeeasilyformedwith
industrialsquaresteeltubing52formedintoatrusswithbracingofsteelrods54.Withthisconstruction,theframe46may
beeasilyfabricatedinsectionsforconvenientassembly,ortheentireframe46maybeliftedoffofthesupportingmember

Theinnerrotatingassembly14isdrivenbyafrictionordeadWheel92pivotallysupportedonthetubularmember18,as
illustratedinFig.6,engagingcircularplate94and96carriedbytheinnerrotatingassembly14andtheframe46,
respectively.Theplates94and96arearrangedinverticallyspacedrelationwithsufficientdistancetherebetweento
frictionallyengageoppositeportionsofthewheel92.Itwillthereforebeapparentthatwhentheframe46isturnedinone
direction,theplate96willengagetheperipheryofthewheel92todrivethewheel92andinturndrivethecentralrotating
as.sembly14inanoppositedirectionbyfrictionalengagementofthewheel92withtheplate94.Therefore,thevarious
comicallyshapedmembers82willbemovedsuccessivelythroughthesimulatedelectrornagnets86andgivethe
appearanceofthegenerationofelectricalenergy.
Thecabin16issupportedontheupperendofthetubularsupportingmember18andisrigidlysecuredtothemember18
bybracing100tomovewiththesupportingmember18andtobepreventedfromrotatingwiththeshell12orrotating
assembly14.Additionalsupportisprovidedbyapluralityofrollers101carriedbytheframe46engagingacomplementary
trackonthebottomofthecabin.Thecabin16isconstructedoutofasuitableframework102coveredbysuitablesheet
material104,suchasaluminumlaminatedwithMasonite,ontheoutersurfaceoftheframeworkandanyothersuitable
material106,suchasMasonite,aroundtheinnersurfaceoftheframework.Itwillbeunderstoodthatsubstantiallystrong

fastenedinclosedpositionsandthepassengersarethereafterpreventedfromviewinganyobjectoutsideofthe
amusementdeviceduringthesimulatedflight.Thedrivemotor40isthenplacedinoperationtorotatetheshell12and
frame46inonedirection,whilethefrictionwheel92drivestheinnerrotatingassembly14inanoppositedirection.
Passengersinthecabin16willthenviewthemovementoftheinnerrotatingassembly14andtheframe46throughthe
windows110toreceivetheimpressionofWatchingtheinnerworkingsofaspacecraft.Also,suitablelightingeffects(not
shown)arepreferablyprovidedintheshell12toilluminatethemovingparts.Simultaneouslywithrotationoftheshell12
andtheinnerrotatingassembly14,thejacks26areactuatedtoraisethesupportingmember18onthestanchion22.This
upwardmovementofthesupportingmember18willberatherminor,butwillbesuflicienttogivethesensationofrisingto

Fromtheforegoingitwillbeapparentthatthepresentinventionprovidesanamusementdevicewhichwillgivethe
impressionandsensationtopatronsorpassengersofthedevicethattheyaretakinganinterplanetaryflight.Thedevice
includescounterrotatingsectionssimulatingtheinnerworkingsofaspacecraftandthesemovingsectionsmaybeeasily
viewedbypassengersinthedevice.Also,thepassengersareslightlyraisedduringoperationofthedevicetosimulate
flightfromtheearthandamovieissimultaneouslydisplayedtogivetheimpressionofapproachingaheavenlybody.Itwill
alsobeapparentthattheconstructionoftheamusementdeviceissuchthatthedevicemaybeeasilydisassembledand
movedfromonelocationtoanother.Itwillfurtherbeapparentthatthepresentamusementdevice,issimplein
construction,maybeeconomicallymanufacturedandwillhavealongservice.life.
Changesmaybemadeinthecombinationandarrangementofpartsorelementsasheretoforesetforthinthe
specificationandshowninthedrawings,itbeingunderstoodthatchangesmaybemadeintheembodiment:disclosed
withoutdepartingfromthespiritandscopeoftheinventionasdefinedinthefollowingclaims.
Iclaim:
1.Inanamusementdevicesimulatingaspaceride,thecombinationof:anoutertubularshell,the]diameterofthecentral
portionofsaidoutershell.beingsubstantiallylargerthanthediameterattheoppositeendsthereof,meansforsupporting
theoutershellinanuprightpositionwiththelargestdiameterthereofextendinghorizontally,meansforrotatingtheouter
shellaboutits.longitudinalaxis,apluralityofsimulatedelectromagnetscarriedincircumferentiallyspacedrelationinthe
outershell,anannularshapedframerotatablysupportedconcentricallyintheoutershell,meansforsimultaneously
turningsaidframeinadirectionoppositetotherotationoftheoutershell,conicallyshapedmemberscarriedbysaidframe
inpositionsformovementthroughthesimulatedelectromagnetsintheoutershell,apassengercabinhavingafloor
therein,meansfornonrotatablysupportingthecabinabovetheoutershellwiththefloorofthecabinpositionedwithinthe
upperendportionoftheoutershell,andtransparentwindowsinthefloorofthecabinforviewingmovementoftheouter
shellandsaidframefromtheinteriorofthecabin.
2.Anamusementdeviceasdefinedinclaim1whereinsaidmeansforsupportingsaidoutershellcomprisesatubular
supportmemberextendingdownwardlyfromthecabinthroughtheoutershellandsaidframe,abaseportiononthelower
endofsaidtubularsupportmembersimulatingalandinggear,cooperatingrollersandtrackssupportingtheoutershellon
thebaseportion,andmeansforraisingandloweringsaidbaseportionduringrotationofvtheoutershellandsaidframe.
3.Inanamusementdevicesimulatingaspaceride,the
combinationof:averticallyextendingsupportingmemher,apassengercabinmountedontheupperendofthesupporting
memberandhavingtransparentwindowsinthefloorthereof,anoutershellextendingdownwardlyandoutwardlyfromthe
lowerendportionofthecabinandtheninwardlyanddownwardlytowardthesupportingmember,afirstframeextending
radiallyinwardfromtheoutershellandhavingagenerallyUshapedcrosssectionwithupperandlowerhorizontally
extendingportions,meansrotatablysupportingsaidfirstframeonthesupportingmember,asecondframerotatably
supportedonthesupportingmemberforrotarymovementhorizontallybetweentheupperandlowerhorizontallyextending
portionsofthefirstframe,andmeansforrotatingsaidfirstandsecondframesinoppositedirectionstosimulatemovement
oftheinnerworkingsofaspacecraftasviewedfromthecabin.
4.Anamusementdeviceasdefinedinclaim3characterizedfurthertoincludeatleastonejackconnectedtosaid
supportingmemberfor'raisingandloweringthecabinandfirstandsecondframesduringrotarymovementofsaidframes.
5.A11amusementdeviceasdefinedinclaim3Whereinsaidsupportingmemberisatube,andcharacterizedfurtherto
includeafixedstanchiontelescopedintothesupportingmemberforholdingthesupportingmembervertical,legs
extendingoutwardlyincircumferentiallyspacedrelationfromthesupportingmemberbelowthelowerhorizontalportionof
thefirstframesimulatingalandinggearforthedevice,rollerscarriedbyeachleg,acirculartrackonthelowerhorizontal
portionofthefirstframearrangedtorideonsaidrollersduringrotationofthefirstframe,andajackconnectedtoeachleg
ofthe7landinggearforraisingandloweringthesupportingmemberonthestanchionduringrotationofsaidframes.
6.Anamusementdeviceasdefinedinclaim5whereinsaidmeansforrotatablysupportingthefirstframeonthe
supportingmemberincludesatrackaroundthesupportingmemberoppositeeachoftheupperandlowerhorizontal

7.Anamusementdeviceasdefinedinclaim5whereinsaidmeansforrotatablysupportingthesecondframeonthe
supportingmembercomprisesapairofverticallyspacedtracksaroundthesupportingmember,twosetsof
circumferentiallyspacedrollerscarriedbythesecondframeinpositionstoengagesaidtracksonthesupportingmember,
circulartracksontheupperandlowerhorizontalportionsofthefirstframe,andcircumferentiallyspacedrollersonthe
upperandlowerfacesofthesecondframeforengagingthelastmentionedcirculartracks.
8.Anamusementdeviceasdefinedinclaim3wherein0)saidmeansforrotatingsaidframesinoppositedirections
comprisesconcentricannularplatessecuredaroundthefirstandsecondframesinverticallyspacedrelationadjacentthe
supportingmember,africtionwheelcarriedbythesupportingmemberinapositiontoengagesaidplatesanddrivethe
