In 2009, UNDP points out that one of the factors that is hindering competitiveness
in ICT sector in the region is the lack of well-qualified ICT graduates. In my opinion,
students usually find it hard to establish meaningful connection between theories
and practice. Consequently, I hope to bring quality education to help students in
bridging their gap between theories and applications, so that graduates are
employment-ready workforce that drives Cambodias competitiveness in the
sector.
Leadership
To be awarded an ALA scholarship, you must demonstrate leadership qualities and potential for future
leadership. In no more than 2500 characters, outline below:
What are the attributes you consider to be essential to being a leader?
How have you demonstrated these attributes in your career and/or personal life to date?
How will granting you a scholarship for study in Australia benefit development in your country of
citizenship?
What are your goals for the future? What do you hope to be doing in 10 years time?
Note that shortlisted applicants may be invited to attend an interview where they will have an opportunity to
expand on their answers.
I consider communicating, coaching and delegating are the essential attributes to being a leader. I have acquired these
attributes from being a Sales Engineer for almost 3 years. To achieve any tasks, I always communicate to my
technicians to make sure they receive the clear instructions and understand the tasks fully. Unclear instruction often
caused delay, lost money, and resulted faulty system. A leader needs to also possess coaching skill. Technicians under
my supervision come from various technical backgrounds. I often sought to find which area a team member needs to
improve to keep the whole team well-performed. After coaching, come delegating. I have learned that delegating
process is as important as it is difficult. For delegates, they learn to assume more responsibility. For supervisor, I can
focus on other important tasks.
A scholarship to study in Australia will provide me the opportunity to expose myself to global awareness and perspective,
which is very important for any future Cambodian leader. I see myself in 10 years as a full-time teacher and researcher
in the field of information and communication technology in Cambodia.
