Weekly Journal of Practicum: SK Sekudai Batu 10, Johor Bahru
Week: Two (2)

Problem
This is the second week of my practicum. This week is quite busy as I have to catch up with
a lot of relief classes same as last week. This is due to the lack of teachers as they have to go out
for handball and badminton tournament as well as attending courses. Besides, only in this week I
managed to get the class for Dunia Seni Visual as the previous teacher who taught the subject has
been transferred to another school. There were lots of works and appointments that were being
postponed due to this matter. However, at the end of the week, I managed to get half of the works
done.

Analysis
From my experience of previous two practicums, the problem that would be arise during the
very first week is the lack of preparation in facing all the obstacles to meet my vision of becoming a
great teacher with exceptional personality in this new school. Besides, I keep on feeling anxious and
nervous to think that I have to adapt to another different environment of this new school. Even with
little experience that I have during my last two practicums at SK Taman Cempaka and SK Taman
Universiti 4, I knew that I need to make a lot of effort to uncover the limitless knowledge in this wide
world especially for my teaching methods. The experiences that I have gain during the training
process up until I went to practicums will never be enough to make sure that my lessons in the
future will be perfect and enjoyable for the students. Nevertheless, I have to admit that my lecturers
have been a great mind opener by working diligently to relay and to share their knowledge in
making a skillful teacher out of their students including me. They have also been a remarkable
source of motivation. Hence, it is up to us to never giving up our effort by applying what have been
learned using our own creativity to uphold the teaching and learning method devised the Ministry of
Education.

Suggestions for Improvement

There are several ways that could be done to overcome the problem mentioned earlier:
I must make a proper mental and physical preparation by reading a lot of materials related to
motivation and pedagogical approaches in education. I need to seek help and support from my
supervising lecturer, my mentors, my family or those who are more experienced, to discuss on the

best way to overcome my problems and anxieties. I need to have faith in myself. Besides, I will have
to pray more to Allah so that He may ease my way and journey along this 12 weeks.
I have to learn to cope with the new atmosphere by taking it positively to ensure that I can
manage my core business successfully even though I undergo loads of obstacles. I will not let any
of these problems bog me down. I have to be strong and persevere despite of having time
constraint due to the lack of opportunity to focus on my practicum duty.
Moreover, I must be able to manage my time so that I will not be left behind the schedule.
This is important so that I will not be too stressful and manage to have self-control.

Duration
I will try to overcome my problems as soon as possible; that is prior to week two of this
practicum. I realise that if I am unable to manage the major problems that I am facing this week, it
could risk my capability of performing practicum duty and delivering the teaching and learning
activities effectively. The problems can also interrupt other crucial tasks that I need to carry out in
school.

Assessment of Success
I will need the assistance from my mentors and other teachers to assess the effectiveness
and success of my handling the problems. I will also need to do some self- assessment to solve
these matters.

Further Action
I will think of ways to deal with my problems from time to time. I will always seek guidance
and help from my supervising lecturers and mentors who have been wonderful assistance so far. I
will also ask for advice and support from other teachers, and not forgetting my beloved family; to
make sure that my problems can be solved.

Conclusion / Reflection
Success will never come as easy as one, two, three, or even as A, B, C. This saying is
closely referred to my current situation. After all, that is the core business of a teacher. According to
Joshua J. Marine, Challenges are what make life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life
meaningful. I hope I will manage to survive these coming days and pass with flying colours.
