Workshop Inspection Checklist
Enclosed Space Permit
Hot Work Permit
Cold Work Permit
Working aloft Permit
2. Explain their specific purposes?
Workshop Inspection Permit - .The primary mission of the Inspections and
Permits Department is to enhance the quality of life for all citizens of Cary by
providing for their health, safety and welfare through the effective and
efficient administration and enforcement of the North Carolina State Building
Code and applicable local ordinances.

Enclosed Space Permit - An enclosed place can be used for several

reasons; however, the main issue arises when one has to enter these
enclosed places in order to do some repairing work or for cleaning
purposes. Because of zero ventilation, these enclosed places generate
and store toxic gases which are either produced from chemicals stored
in the place or leakage from pipelines. If a person enters such place
without taking precaution, he or she may suffer unconsciousness and
sometimes even death. In order to prevent such unfortunate
circumstances there is a proper procedure that needs to be followed
for safety and wellness of the person entering the enclosed space.
Hot work Permit - The Hot Work Permit system is intended to assure
that the individuals involved in construction, renovation, repairs and
maintenance of University facilities are aware of the hazards
associated with hot work and welding and that they implement control
measures to help mitigate them. The Hot Work Permit is the means by
which the departments of Facilities Management, Facilities Planning
and Construction, and the department of Environmental Health &
Safety & Risk Management Services will be able to keep track of
construction activities that involve hot work, and that these activities
are being conducted safely.
Cold Work Permit - A cold work permit shall be obtained for all
general work that does not involve activities related to hot work, i.e.
the tolls and equipment used or the work itself do not generate any
spark. And cold work refers to general maintenance work on the plant
or equipment where the uses of any open flames, any source of
ignition or any electrical equipment is not allowed
Working aloft Permit- To define the procedure to follow prior to all
work aloft to ensure safe working conditions. This procedure shall apply

to all personnel who are required to work in any location on the vessel
more than eight feet above the deck. This shall include the foremast,
the mainmast and the stern U-frame. It shall not include the top of the
pilothouse, the top of the after steering station, or either crane cab.
