I am Afrizal Faisal Ali, usually called Afrizal. I was born in Gresik, Indonesia,
from a modest family with a mill-hand father and a housewife mother. I
lived in a factory housing complex where most of the residents did not
have enough opportunity to access higher education due to insufficient
financial reason. Based on that condition, I have a determination to be
successful and it will be my great success if I can contribute to the
surrounding community.
Ever since I was in elementary school, I have already had high interest in
mathematics and English. Then, entering teenage years, I learned that my
surrounding neighborhood condition was not good and most of the
people blame on the energy savings system for giving inadequate
environmental supports. Those early childhood and teenage experience
have triggered my desire to study energy science, especially renewable
energy development, which in the following years provoked me to take a
xxxxx study in xxxxx major in the most prestigious university in the country,
xxxx university. During my study in xxxx university, I have attended some
courses related to Energy Science such as Renewable Energy
Development, Energy Management, Conservation Energy, and many
other subjects. These courses have broadened my knowledge on
designing and managing system that ensures sustainable development.
The courses gave me technical knowledge not only on how to use
suitable technology to be implemented but also on how to ensure the
sustainable development. While studying, I was awarded Feature Final
Project scholarship which has helped me cover some of the living cost in
Bandung. In addition, I took an active role in the organization of Student
Association of Energy Engineering Department and was responsible as
Head of the Regeneration Division. Furthermore, I have carried out a
milestone projectVillage Biogas, which in this particular project I had the
chance in giving environmental and education to children and
surrounding communities encouraging them to be agents of change in

their life and communities. And teach them how to use cow feces into
something useful.
I believe that I have the qualities to be a prospective (master degree)
student. I am a creative, hard working, persistent and often think in a
contemplative way about various issues of practical importance. Being
able to identify patterns and relationships that are not obvious to others is
perhaps one of my greatest strength. This will prove very valuable
because an integral part of taking Master degree is to perceive the
balance between the theory and practice, analytical persistency, and
intuition. My communication skills are excellent and I like expressing the
ideas and concepts which are the suitable stands for the dissemination of
knowledge in my chosen field of specialization.
To reach my goal, I need scholarship because I need to support my
parents and what I earn wont be enough to cover tuition fees and living
cost in Europe (Plymouth). I believe School of Marine Science and
Engineering (Marine Renewable Energy) in University of Plymouth is one of
the distinguish program in Energy and Environmental Institution in the
world with a strong orientation towards research. The diversity of
environmental and energy research and practice is one of the particular
interest to me. The eminent faculty and the individualized nature of the
master program will definitely bring out the best in me. I would like to
restate that I possess the background, the ability, and the motivation to
make a significant contribution to the development my country. I hope
you will take a favorable decision regarding my admission for join this
program in University of Plymouth and I look forward to join the Marine
Renewable Energy program.
