D uring a period of over 60 years, Piet de Weerd

achieved worldwide acknowledgement due to
his manner in selecting and pairing the best
and most valuable pigeons in the world.
His name is known in the farthest corners of the
globe and many, serious fanciers read his articles
and books. These are written in his own down to
earth characteristic manner.
Invitations from all over the world have made him
the worlds most widely travelled pigeon fancier.
Back in the sixties he not only travelled numerous
times across the Atlantic to the

Tuijn; the pairing of the “Franck” (44-306686) at
“Heroine” (47-1008650) on the loft of George Fabry:
“Porthos” and the “Favorie”, descendants of this pair
made the name of Fabry world famous.
Also the transfer of the “Piet” (strain Meulemans) to
Raymand Hermes in Germany was a bullseye and

ince 1972, Dr. De Weerd has specialised
himself in the clinical requirements of ra-
cing pigeons and has mirrored such a
wealth of knowledge onto the elite team of eight
full-time specialist employees who are employed
at his clinic in Breda.
This un-matched wealth of knowledge is freely
extended to the scores of fanciers who contact
the office on a daily basis from every corner of
this pigeon populated world that we live in, on
top of this many famous fanciers privately seek
consultations with Dr. Henk de Weerd at his
clinic about a vast amount of pigeon related
subjects including therapies, prevention of dis-
eases, techniques in the sport, loft construction
and design, breeding programmes, advice on
feeding and more importantly how to maintain
the ultimate health and condition in their
pigeons.

As a young boy Dr. De Weerd visited many top

A few weeks before mating one has to check the droppings of the pigeons for
worms, coccidiosis and paratyphoid
- In case of worms we advise you to give BelgaWormac®.
- In case of coccidiosis, trichomoniasis and hexamitiasis you give B.S.®.
- In case of paratyphoid and E.coli you give ParaStop®.
The medicines mentioned are absolutely safe, and will not cause vomiting or feather
damage.
Instructions: BelgaWormac®
Consecutive 2 days, 1 tablet per pigeon. After deworming one is advised to flame
out the loft. Keep in mind that to work safe and effective you first have to moisten the
loft. Do not give BelgaWormac® on the grain.

Worms Trichomoniasis (Canker)

Symptoms of worms Trichomoniasis (canker) is caused by a flagellate living on the mucous membranes of

To prevent the risk of re-infection the sanitary conditions at the lofts are very impor-
tant. In case of infection one is advised to “burn-out” with a gas torch the moisted
interior of the loft (preferably moisten the loft first with water).
BelgaWormac® is the best remedy against hair- and roundworms. Causes no da-
mage to the feathers and is also completely safe during the breeding and moult
season. Can also be given in the race season. During the cure the pigeons can be
fed as usual.
Instructions:
Easy to administer via the drinker, 2 measure spoons per 2 litres of water, 2 days
consecutive. Comes also in tablets. 1 tablet per pigeon.
BelgaWormac® should never be given on the grain.
Most of the time present without clinical signs, but it can give massive irritation and
open the way for anaerobic bacterial infections (bad smell from the throat). Has to be
treated regularly. We advice our B.S.® powder and/ or in combination with BelgaMagix®
tablets.
Treatment:
In case of clinical canker treat individually with 1 tablet
BelgaMagix® for 3 days or for a group of pigeons 5 or 6
days B.S.®: 1 sachet per 2 litres of water or preferably on
1 kg of grain (*).

Adenocoli syndrom. Young bird disease ( * Grain can be moistened with Belgasol or water down lemon juice.)

The last decade this has been the biggest problem in young birds up to
9 months old. Symptoms:
• decreased appetite • vomiting
• not listening when calling them in for food • getting skinny
• green watery droppings • dying

Up to 70% may be infected and show these symptoms. The disease is a combina-
tion of an Adeno virus which opens the way for the suddenly aggressive E-Coli bac-
teria (facultative pathogenic). Also a Circo virus is often involved.

N.B.: These symptoms can also be seen in case of Paramyxo virus, however in this
case the pigeons drink a lot of water and may have some central nervous problem.

As a treatment for adenocoli, we advice to give for one week 4 in1 Mix® together
with Belgasol® (to avoid dehydration) as follows: 1 measure spoon of 4 in1 Mix®
and 1 table-spoon of Belgasol® together in 1 litre of water. In severe cases the do-
sage may be doubled.
In case there is not a clear response (improvement) after 4 days you should change
your medication into BelgAmco® or just consult us for further details.

I s just one of the samples of the excel-
lent quality of the stock birds of

Piet de Weerd and his son Henk made it
possible that quite a few excellent pigeons
are paired with each other in the right way,
resulting in unbelievably good descendants
for breeding aswell as at the races.
From the pair “Buffel” x ”Dicky”, several
splendid sons & daughters showed the
qualities of their parents in the second and
third generation. Johan Jahn in Lohmar
(Germany) bred from a son the DV92-
03389-290, winning the 5 National San
Sebastian in 1994.
From a daughter of this miraculous pair,
Bernd Morsnowski at Krefeld (Germany)

This pigeon won in 1993 the 11 National
