Back-To-School Charity
Caridad para el Regreso a Clases
Last weeks message focused on incorporating a
life skill when shopping for school supplies. I would
encourage you to take this a bit further and add the
virtue of charity. Read on for suggestions of how to
put this into action.
Start by sitting down for a short family meeting to
discuss the details of this school supply project and
explain that you want the whole family to help make
some decisions. By the end of your meeting, your
family should know the following: Who will received
the supplies? Do you want to help local families or
children in other countries? Will the supplies be
delivered in person or mailed? Be ready to hear the
passion from your children about helping other
children. They will want to share their personal
opinions throughout this process. Your family will
enjoy this project as much as the giving tree or food
bank projects.
Once you have identified the recipient, you still
have more to do before you head out shopping. Have
you decided on a given amount to spend on the
supplies? Or what about buying a backpack and
filling it with all the items for a certain grade level?
Maybe, you just want to pick out an item like pencils
or folders and buy enough for a classroom of 25
students. The opportunities are endless.
Be sure to create your shopping list and gather the
family before you head to the store. I would also
encourage you to add a short note or card in the
package, from your family to the student. Share an
encouraging message and mention that your family
will be praying for them during this school year.
Mrs. Abbie L. Miller, Principal
