Reflection Wheel Journal # 1

Event/Behavior
1. What took place or prompted the journal?
When I was in Ecuador I have a difficult trip as I havent prepared nothing
beforehand. In the beginning I was thinking about not coming as many people had
told me that it was too easy for me. I have faced a lot of test for having my
membership to the ministry of education, in the end I was denied my right to have a
stable job, so after struggling a lot I decided to come forced by the circumstances,
for that I waited until the last minute.
Feelings
2. How does the event/ behavior make me feel?
Lordliness
overestimated
disorganization
Thoughts
3. What do I think about the event/behavior that is focus of the journal?
I remember my possibilities of not travelling since people told me that it was too
low for my level, so I feel myself overestimated and put the other people down
before even knowing them. I thought that If I had gotten the scholarship the
government of Ecuador would do everything easy for us, then I started to do all the
process in a disorganized way, I didnt know when to start, how to do it and what to
have. Even the emails that were sent to me I didnt have the willingness to read
them all.

Learnings:
4. Step one: Assumption Checking
I assume that People made that I was the cream of the crop as in my place I
was the winner of the membership and I didnt need it to come because I
have B2 level.

A potential bias I had was that I was thinking that I had everything under
control just because I won the scholarship.

I assumed that just having the enthusiasm to go would be enough necessary

to travel without any difficulties.

Step two: Reflection

Based on my assumptions about the usefulness of the ESL preparation course after
about two months I have a different point of view, as an English teacher and an
academic I have to continue my preparation during the whole life because of its
benefits of striving for opportunities through the whole life. (Litano & Major, 2012).
Total immersion is a good way to improve the language and at the same time to
have a permanent evaluation that makes them better prepared that the ones who
even having certifies are not able to use the language (Knell, Quiang, Piay,
Yamping, & Siegel , 2014)
After staying here and having done some assignments I have a clear view that this is
going to be a growing experience, it made me know different people, the teachers
that Im having are well prepared and give us more opportunities to grow
professionally.
Finally, after have faced and sort out a bunch of difficulties during the trip to IbarraEcuador to Barbados, I realized that I need more than a weak willingness to go to a
different country, even after having won a scholarship,
Step three: Critical reflection
Based on my background I was vanished by the idea of being a young professional
who is good at preparing myself , which all the opportunities I have had were
denied by a government that punishes to the teachers a lot, in fact I have faced part
of this when I felt like my talent was not recognized for not being a go teacher, I
grew believing that go teacher preparation was too easy for me, and even if that
would be such a stress-free preparation, I guess I dont have the right to put anyone
down.
Application
Step 1
Regarding to my professional aspect I have learn many things, for instance I should
not put people down, and I have to be very humble, the advantage of had had more
opportunities doesnt give me the right to diminish people capabilities. whenever I
asked my students to follow his passion to continue preparing during the whole life
I have always said that they need to put the feet on the ground, however I didnt do
that Moreover, I have to be very careful on what I inform to my acquaintances for
avoiding any bad comments or envy that they can drop from his mouths, people

sometimes end up making you feel bad, because of envy they have about people
success.
Step 2
Professional Growing
Finally, as teachers we are always asking the students to prepare everything
beforehand, for instance, to have their materials checked at night in order to not
forget them, during the professional practice as teacher I also have to remember to
clearly state that it is not always a good idea to tell someone else about the good
news that you have. In my class I will teach them to plan an activity and alto to
prepare strategies to help people each other, for example a checklist of his plans.
