BRIEF BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY


Birth order is distinguish as an individuals rank by age between his or her

siblings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birth_order). Birth order and connection of the


child in the family influence and form the icon and figure of the child and constitute
a significant part of the formation of a life-style. Exposure of each child to social
environment is hugely dictated by the childs rank in the family. Birth order is looked
at as the science of understanding a persons place in their family, the order in
which a person lands in their family can affect their life (Leman, 2009). It keeps him
or her to grow in a specific manner only, and by that, their interpersonal skills might
be affected due to their ones birth order.

Interpersonal skills are the skills used by a person to properly interact with
others; these are the skills we use every day to communicate and interact with
other people, both individually and in group.

The impact of a persons birth order is often underestimated as a major factor


in his/her interpersonal skills. Many studies revealed that there are statistically
significant data concerning the relationship between first born, middle and last born
in terms of their interpersonal skills. Needless to say, birth order impacts the
interpersonal relationships and skills. The rank or order in which an individual is

born into their family plays a big role in a persons development of personality,
character, intelligence and career choices (Stewart et al., 2001).

STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVES
This research is all bout the effects of birth order to the interpersonal skills.

The main reason for studying such is because they wishes to know why students
nowadays with various birth orders are having diverse ways of socializing, and as a
conclusion, the researchers thought that having various birth orders are one of the
reasons why. That is what pushed them to study such. The main aim of conducting
this research is to make the readers, particularly the students, to understand what
particular thoughts their birth orders have.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

General Problem
To determine the effects of Birth order to students interpersonal skills.
Specific Problem
1. How can personality be determine by birth order?
2. Hoc are the students interpersonal skills being developed?
3. How does birth order affect students interpersonal skills?

STATEMENT OF CONTRIBUTION/IMPORTANCE
This research will benefit the following:

Parents

Parents of the child will be able to plan well on how they will raise their child
as the first born, middle born or last born.

Guidance Counselor
-

The Guidance Counselor of schools, universities, etc., will be able to know the
proper way of talking or consulting or guiding their students who are facing
problems that are related to interacting/socializing with other people.

Future Researchers
-

This study will not only serve as their guide for their study but will also serve
as a source of ideas for their study or research.

V.

STATEMENT OF SCOPE
This study is all about figuring out the close connection of the birth order of

an individual to their interpersonal skills. The objective of this research is to


comprehend why persons with various birth orders are having a different way of
socializing or interacting with other people. Thus, the researchers aim to grasp the
interpersonal skills of the students with various different birth orders, regardless of
their gender, age, and their personal relationship. The study does not also include
the only-child.

In terms of interpersonal skills, the focus of the study is towards the students
interpersonal skills in school or universities, and does not include his/her
interpersonal skills at home.

The scope and limitations of such study will help the researchers to gather
the data needed and interpret it to be able to find out the research question, which
is How does birth order affect students interpersonal skills?
