Procedure:
Step 1: Learn the class objectives and be able to:

Classroom Procedures
Bell work
1. Enter room in an appropriate manner.
Walk
Use a voice level no higher than 3 (Classroom voice)
2. Stop talking when the bell rings.
3. Get out your Science Journal and a pencil.
4. Read all the information on the board.
5. Begin work immediately without bothering others (including Ms. Johnson)
If you do not understand the bell work this is the only time you may whisper to the person next
to you.
6. Quietly take out any assignment due for teacher to check.

1. Stop what you are doing immediately
2. Look at the teacher
3. Listen to what the teacher has to say
4. Maintain eye and ear contact until the teacher releases you to return to work

Emergency Bathroom Use
You are only allowed to use the restroom during class if it is an emergency. You must go directly to the
restroom and then directly back to the classroom. Please sign out on the paper by the door and carry
the bathroom pass with you. Understand that if you have consistent emergencies Ms. Johnson will
confer with your parents and the nurse to investigate the physical cause.

Late Work
Late work will not be accepted after 2 days, unless you are absent. If you have unexpected difficulties
with homework completion one week, please email me before the assignment is due. On Friday, the
students will have an opportunity to record missing work and complete for half credit before Monday.
Being an athlete does not excuse incomplete or missing assignments. Please monitor due dates to
ensure that assignments are completed on time.
Absent Work (only applies to excused absences)
1. Find out what you have missed: check with another student, Ms. Johnson, or the website.
2. Make sure to write the date you were absent and the reason for the absence in the bell work section
of your Science Journal to get credit for that entry.
3. Get any notes you missed from a fellow classmate, class website, or gaggle digital locker.
4. You have the same number of days to make up an assignment as you were absent (sick 2 days = 2
days to get the work done.)
Extra Credit Work - there will be opportunities given throughout a quarter for extra credit. If you
failed to complete an assignment, you should take the opportunity to earn extra credit points. Do not
ask for extra credit at the end of a quarter when your grade is not what you desire. Take extra credit
opportunities when they are given.
Test Retakes
If you earn a D or an F on an exam you may take your test home, write all missed questions on a
separate sheet of paper, fill in the correct answer, and add a written description (at least 2 sentences
long) of each missed concept. The best score you can earn for a retake is a C. You must have the test
back to me within the week your test was returned.

Some Specific Rules and Their Consequences
1. Do not put people down. If you are rude to another person (including Ms. Johnson) you will leave
the room and write that person a letter of apology. This letter must be approved by me before you can
rejoin the class.
2. Please do not use rude or vulgar language. If this occurs, you will leave the room and write some
more appropriate words or phrases you could have said.
3. Please do not write on the tables (even with your eraser). If you are caught damaging school
property in this way you will come in at lunch and scrub the tables. I care about the way this
classroom looks and I hope you do too.
4. No visible or audible cell phones. If I hear it or see it, I take it.

Dear Parents and Students,
Thank you very much for taking the time to commit to success by becoming informed of the
procedures and expectations of this science class. I am grateful for the opportunity to teach and have
fun learning science. I am looking forward to a great year!
There will be a tentative calendar for all of the major calendar for major projects. I know there may be
some students and parents who look closely at due dates, but as a teacher I have to do what is best for
my students and if that means pushing dates back I will make the best decision possible. The due dates
will never be due earlier than the original date, but I will make later deadlines if I feel students need
more time.

the end of the week, your child will be creating a parent handbook explaining classroom procedures.
I am also a candidate for National board certification. I will be taking photographs and videotaping the
class as a part of the process.
