SAP Warehouse ( WM ) storage types and

areas
A storage type in SAP WM ( Warehouse Management ) is defined as the physical or logical
divisions of the entire warehouse where we are storing the goods. It consists of the area,
facility or zone of that warehouse.
Commonly used WM Physical storage types

Bulk storage

Picking area

High rack storage

Open Storage

Shelf storage

Interim storage areas

Interim storage area for differences

Goods issue area

Goods receipt area

Posting change zone

Default complete storage types

Important Notes

Warehouse Number is used for managing these storage types

We can create custom storage types to meet our companys requirement

Control parameters specifies the material flow for that storage type

Put-away,Picking, Blocking indicators and inventory procedures are the main control
parameters

The communication between Inventory Management and WM module is through


interim storage types
