DUBUQUE TEA PARTY ENDORSES 2010 CANDIDATES

Focus on Constitutionally Limited Government, Fiscal Responsibility, and Free Markets

The Dubuque Tea Party announces its endorsement of the following candidates running in the
June 8th primary election and in the November 2nd general election.

Iowa District 1 U.S. House of Representatives– Will Johnson

Iowa Governor – Bob Vander Plaats
Iowa Secretary of State – Matt Schultz
Iowa State Treasurer – Jim Heavens
Iowa Attorney General – Brenna Findley
District 28 Iowa House of Representatives– Paul Kern

Members of the Dubuque Tea Party considered every candidate on the upcoming primary and
general election ballots based on the three core values of the Tea Party movement including a
return to constitutionally limited government, fiscal responsibility and free markets.

During the past several months members scrutinized each candidate during personal meetings
with the Dubuque Tea Party, candidate campaign events, televised debates and campaign
websites.

Dubuque Tea Party co-organizer, Jeff Luecke, said, “The candidates we’re endorsing most
closely align with the Tea Party movement’s core principles. There are other great candidates in
some of these races who share our values. However, the ones we’re backing show the most
passion, dedication and devotion to restoring states’ rights and limiting our federal government to
the enumerated powers set forth in the U.S. Constitution, cutting spending, lowering taxes, and
empowering the free market system.”

The impetus for the Dubuque Tea Party is excessive government spending and taxation. Our
mission is to attract, educate, organize, and mobilize our fellow tri-state citizens to secure public
policy consistent with our three core values.

The Dubuque Tea Party is a grassroots organization of individuals from the tri-state area united
by our core values derived from the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United
States of America, and the Bill of Rights as explained in the Federalist Papers.

We recognize and support the strength of grassroots organization powered by activism and civic
responsibility at a local level. We hold that the United States is a republic conceived by its
architects as a nation whose people were granted "unalienable rights" by our Creator. Chiefly
among these are the rights to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

The Dubuque Tea Party stands with our founders, as heirs to the republic, to claim our rights and
duties which preserve their legacy and our own. We hold, as did the founders, that there exists an
inherent benefit to our country when private property and prosperity are secured by natural law
and the rights of the individual.
